“Afternoon visit filled with boats”
Review of Paotere Harbor

Reviewed 9 April 2014 via mobile

I nearly did not bother going until a friendly old rickshaw pedlar swayed me back again.
Glad he did 15 minute cycle from the fort. Stopped off at fish market first and had some friendly banter with fishermen boasting about the ones that did not get away and then onto the harbour which was filled with a variety if vessels which collectively offered you a rainbow of colour.
Some good photos to be had for an entrance of Rs5000.
If you have time to fill in Makassar it is worth doing along with the fort and the boardwalk at Losari beach. None though are outstanding when compared to the rest Sulawesi has to offer.
Thanks for the vote if you found this helpful.

Not too much to see here except for a couple of boats. We visited in the morning around 9am and the activity was low. Maybe it is more interesting earlier in the morning? The tourist fee is relatively high.

The old traditional harbour is nice to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. You can see the traditional boats and the people are friendly. It's a good way to take a look in the local everyday life.Afternoon is a good time as it's not so hot,the light is sweet and the colors are more beautiful (which makes for nice photos!)
The only problem is it's quite far from the centre, you have to take a moto taxi otherwise is at least half an hour walk.

Didn't find anything special about this harbour. Good photo opportunities with 'some' of the old wooden boats but the rip-off 'tourist tax' to enter the harbour was a total con. The harbour itself was a typical mix of Makassar run down buildings, unsafe roads closer resembling piles of blue mettle and other rubbish mixed in.

It is overrated as a tourist location/attraction and the $$ spent on a taxi and tourist entry tax, to get there and back, would be much better spent on a few beers consumed in an air conditioned establishment.

Some of the sights at this harbour would put you off eating fish for the rest of your life......

Paotere is a harbour for the traditional ship like "phinisi" you can see many things here. From the ship crew activities, traditional fisherman, and also sunset. The best time to comes accoding to my experience is in the late afternoon like 4PM and there's also a good and cheap restaurant call paotere, they sell fresh seafood.
