“Could have been better --”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

Being a frequent traveller, and having stayed at a few establishments in Manado – it is unfortunate to say that Sintesa has let me down.

Had we not benefited from a special promotion and paid full price, I would have been even more disappointed. Nonetheless, this hotel rates 5 stars so I was expecting more than what was behind our door on level 9. The website shows wooden flooring but our room had airport style blue carpet which had seen better days. My advice is to not expect what you see on the Internet – although, most travellers already know this.

Pros

Very friendly staff and always willing to help, even with their limited English.
The restaurant and pool areas are well presented.
Hotel room and bathroom is spacious.
The view is lovely, if you can request one with ocean views.
The bed is large and comfortable with a down doona & pillows.
Excellent free Wifi and a good size flat screen TV with plenty of channels.
The breakfast buffet is acceptable but the sausages were stone cold.

Cons
The presentation of our ‘Superior’ room was 3 to 4 stars.
There were marks all over the walls and paint peeling on the skirting boards.
The bathroom tiles were stained in various places (see picture).
Our mini bar was more like a micro bar with 2 energy drinks only (see picture).
There was no bathrobes – per website.
Electrical outlet in bathroom coming out of wall (see picture).
Shower was mould ridden and the tapware? (see pictures).
Glass on desk was dirty with previous occupants handprints.
Some people were on their balcony, but the handles were missing from our door.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not at all a fussy traveller but I believe if you are going to rate your hotel 5 star, then there shouldn’t be so many issues per above.

I believe this hotel has the potential to be a 5 star hotel and I hope this review will assist them with their achievements to provide guests with one of the best hotels that Manado has to offer.

Room Tip: Request ocean view and specify Smoking or Non-Smoking preference.

I stayed in this hotel for 3d2n. The hotel looked great, luxurious lobby and it's located up the hill. I had been told that we can actually see the sea from our balcony. According to a colleague who has stayed in this hotel before, he got a discount from the marketing manager which is very tempting. Short story there was a misunderstanding in our reservation, and the person we have booked through was not there and the front liner (Kathleen) was extremely slower. It took us forever and a half to check in, which is not nice after a whole day journey from Jakarta. We had to move from one room to another for 2-3 times, and everything done in the front desk was just slow. The bar attendant was also slow and unthoughtful. Everybody here has lack of English skill even though they tried to be nice. The food in the restaurant were not fresh, so not worth it for the price. I think my colleague and I even got mild food poisoned from grilled salmons we ordered on our second night.

However, the building is kinda new. The swimming pool is big and the view is just marvelous. Such a pity the service is not satisfying. I think the management need to improve the quality of their human resources.

From the hotel I could go to the harbour and city easily but when you back from those place to the hotel you must climb to the hill so my suggestion is you must took taxi whenever you want to back to the hotel. Its clean and has a good view to the shore and mountain. Right place for relaxing your body. It has also a clean and warm swimming pool.

Before it became hotel, it was a hospital. Actually before something from the 'other world' gave a greeting to me, I don't believe that place was haunted. It was a late night about 1 am, and suddenly 2 orange light come to my room. The light there not long just 15 sec.

I stayed here for 3 days for a meeting and a trip to Bunaken. Strategically located, this hotel was built at the top of the hill, providing breathtaking view of Manado Tua et Bunaken islands from my balcony. They also provided a buggy from the car entrance to the main entrance of the lobby, a great alternative for those who are not feeling like jogging up. Great food was served during breakfast, a mix of oriental, international, and local food. I love bubur manado, traditional corn and rice porridge, with roa fish on top and extra vegetables if you like. Starting from Rp 600.000 or around USD55 per night, you got a spacious room et breakfast for two. Pool is available as well.Service is good, typical friendly Manadonese..

From here, it is easy to go to Marina Bay or Jengki Port, where you can hire a boat and start a marvelous day in Bunaken..

The hotel's location only takes about 30 minutes from the airport considering little traffic jam during entering the city. The hotel have exclusive location, it means located on the hill and have own road from the public road. Due to the location can not direct to main street, it takes need 3 or 4 minutes to get to public road (Jalan Sudirman). I just stayed 2 night on this hotel, I have good room, clean and good facility. Room with big screen LCD TV and many channel programs we can choose.

For the breakfast, various of meal availablle you can choose base on your favourites. There are special yellow steam rice (nasi kuning) wrapped by "lontar" leaf, and it is a good taste.
Also "Bubur Manado" traditional local food is available you can taste.

During I stayed on this hotel, sometimes I on the same elevator with the bell boy which brought the suitcase of guests. It little brother me due to the elevator have not a big size space.

As overall this hotel have the good room and cleaness also the officer always full service for the guest.

This property is considered 5 star (Indonesian standard equivalent to 3.5-4 star internationally )located up on the hill with big parking space & large lobby area. It is on the busy & centre of everything, Department store, convenient store, foreign Exchange, Banks, schools & hotels...Staffing is considered good, attentive, smile & helpful. majority speak good English. Prices wise is acceptable. Room size & bath room size is big with lots of space for you to wander around ( I am 6" and 100 Kg.) feel very comfy, nice bedding and full amenities with flat screen TV with local & cable news & English movies. Free LAN only in-room. Room has balcony but no chairs. ANyway, I love the place eventhough there are no Entertainment ( they have Karaoke (local), fitness & arobic class & big swimmingpool. Do not expect any fancy stuffs & furnishing/decoration - Its so plain & simple but its Ok when you talk about Manado: This town is not a big and tourist attraction /destination - road small with traffic jam, few taxi available. This is the place where people come for sea sport & diving. If you wants Shopping or Sight seeing tour, this place is not for you. You can not compare with big names like Phuket, Bali, Maldives...one thing unique about Manado is majoring of the people are Christian ! You can see more Churches than Mosque or Temples..(Indonesia is a Muslim Country). Do not expect also 7-11 and hardly find a good(tourist) restaurants. you can see once in a while, KFC and Pizza Hut..( most of the times, I eat in the Hotel for food hygiene) Drink only water in a bottle & No Ice ,please.. In general, Manado is a quiet place, people are friendly but hardly understand English. Accommodation is acceptable in some area, transportation is difficult but you can arrange it through the Hotel or walk. It's one of the place for you to relax and forget about modernization for a while... Have a good day !!

Room Tip: request room facing the sea, fresh air and nice view
