“Muck Diving with critters at Lembeh”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Had the most incredible experience 'muck diving' - certainly different to any other diving experience I have ancountered prior to spending 10 days at Lembeh Resort and diving with an awesome team. The staff at Critters@Lembeh are truely the most wonderful people. So helpful and knowledgable with anything to do with diving this amazing area. As said in other posts - warm water, no current to speak of, sea horses and more sea horses plus so much more that you just don't see on a 'pretty reef dive' such as frog fish, all manner of shrimp, cuttle fish, mandarin fish, ribbon eels. Absolutely blown away. If you want something different then diving with critters@lembeh is just what you need. I will be going back!

I have just visited this place second time at last april 2012,but it always impress me a lot rather than another dive destination in Indonesia.Always great for UW photography, weird creatures and keeps you surprised on each dive.Truly recommended for you macro lovers, just bring your light fins, master your buoyancy and guarantee you'll gonna love this place ever.

“After over 1000 dives worldwide, this is still my favorite place”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

I have been coming here regularly since 2002. This is a perfect place for casual divers, as there is very little current, warm water and the sites are all REALLY close to the resorts, and everything is done for you. In many ways easier than a liveaboard, with obviously more space back at the resort..

The speciality of Lembeh is black sand, where lots of smal, unusual critters hang out, notably mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, every kind & color of frogfish, ornate ghostpipefish, cockatoo flounder, nudibranches galore, Bobbit worms, tiger shrimp etc.

Great place to learn and practice underwater photography, as macro is the name of the game and that's easier to start with.

Some people think Lembeh is all black sand, which is fantastic in itself, but there are also white sand and coral dives in the near vicinity. And the sites at the end of Lembeh Island (a whole 15 minutes from most resorts) are actually better than most Manado dives.

There's a reason why every other issue of a dive magazine will have pictures from Lembeh. It is consistent, fascinating, prolific and continues to surprise. After over 300 dives here, I will see something I've never seen before on most dives.

And the resorts are all very comfortable and affordable.

“Weird - but so beautiful!”
Reviewed 21 July 2010

If you love diving but are fed up with nice reefs and the common fish life then you should try muck diving. It is also called critter diving which means looking for special, mostly rare creatures. Most of them are pretty ugly like stone fish, star gazers and the like but some are extremely beautiful or at least colourful like frog fish, different octopus or cuttlefish, seahorses or fire fish.

The best place to do so is Lembeh Strait in Northern Sulawesi. Creatures which are extremely rare elsewhere are abundant here. You could get bored after seeing 10 seahorses in one dive - seeing 1 seahorse in one dive could be the highlight of a whole trip elsewhere.

There are several resorts in different price ranges in the area. The dive guides are extremely good in finding stuff and showing you. Most of the time two or three divers will have their own guide.

I've been there 3 times already but will be back for sure.
