This truly is a 5 star hotel. With 5 star rooms, a 5 star pool and a 6 star panoramic view bar at the top of the hotel. Everything in the hotel shines. It looks like they clean all day but you don't see them clean. I had a standard room and it was very luxurious. Big bed, big bathroom and a tv with a lot of channels.
They had the biggest and most divers breakfast buffet I had ever seen. I could have breakfast, lunch and diner from that buffet. It's right next to a big shopping mall with on the lower floor a very good Thais restaurant that you just have to go and have diner.

The service is fast and we can get into our room pretty quick. But the view is terrible, not sure due to the dirty window or the haze outside.

We have a problem with the air-cond in the room and relaying the problem to the reception is another issue of it's own. We have no idea how to adjust the air-cond to higher temperature at first, thus it was by trial-and-error. After realizing the air-cond was not adjusted, we tried calling the reception and an engineer was sent to our room. The engineer checked and inform us to wait and the temperature will be higher in a while. Half an hour gone, the temperature is even lower, all of us were forced to sleep in the cold room till the next morning.

Apart from this, I think we would've enjoyed our stay.

The Grand Swiss Belhotel is situated in a perfect location and managed very
professionally by General Manager David o'Hanlon and his charming assistant
Maria. The hotel staff are dedicated and service-oriented professionals.
Maria kindly assisted me in booking a city tour (to visit old Dutch houses)
and finding transport to Lake Toba.
The rooms of the hotel are spacious, comfortable and equipped with all
modern conveniences. The view from the room is wonderful and it overlooks
the whole of Medan. The hotel has 200 rooms and 240 staff. Everything was
arranged perfectly. I have travelled through Asia for ten weeks and have
stayed in many hotels. This hotel was the best by far.

I had stayed at this hotel before and this was my third visit. This time I paid more for a larger room.

This room was a 'Family" room with a door to adjoining room. The guests next door were partying for three days, I was there for five days as I recall and at all times of day and night kept opening the door on their side and then slamming it shut. Although on a no smoking floor I kept smelling smoke so I assume they were smoking in their room and it was entering via the adjoining door.

The meals are great, the location is excellent.

Pool is small and only seats for five people, so not a place to relax with family at the pool.

Good value except for the family room issue.

A nice hotel, average service, mall attached next to hotel building that u could get anything u need, city centre but be very careful when u check out do not leave anything cause they will not return it to u like my iPhone charger and perfume they just simply saying nothing left in the room.

We had wanted our travel agent to book us into another well-known 5-star hotel but he told us that the GSBH was just as good, so we took his word for it. We're glad we did.
Our room was a corner unit, so it was more spacious than my friends' rooms & had a good view of the city. The facilities in the room & bathrooms were up-to-date & adequate.
I could see that the management was concerned with the security of its guests by the security measures at the lobby & in the lifts. It was a pity that the lobby was a bit small. On the day we checked out, there were so many people in the lobby that it was difficult to find a place to stand as we waited for our transport let alone find a seat!
The breakfast was wonderful - loved the coffee especially! Wish my tummy was big enough to tuck in everything!
Also wish we had stayed longer - unfortunately we only stayed 1 night!

Room Tip: Corner room for better view & spaciousness.
