i stayed for one night on my way to Takengon, Overall, my stay has been pleasant, the staff are friendly and helpful.

I bought a Durian Belanda back, the staff just happily have it wash and cut for me.

Concerning about my trip to Takengon, where it is not popular with tourist yet, the owner gave me some friendly tips about the local cultures and customs, also arranged for one of the staff to take me by motorbike to get my bus ticket to Takengon.

The location is also convenience, with quick access to the main road and also there are quite a few eateries within the neighborhood.

We were in Medan only to go to immigration and fly out of Indonesia (we needed 1 stamp after a stolen pasport). If ever you need something from immigration, stay at ZazaZizi. The owner knows the big chief at immigration and really helped us a lot to speed up the proces for the needed exit stamp. Actually he die more than his share, going with us all day, waiting and waiting at the office, sometimes trying to speed up the process. As for the hotel, it's nice and has a good atmosphere about it. The bar downstairs serves nice food and there's a big mall neerby with many food and shops. Review is primarily based on the great help we recieved, but the rooms are fine and we were happy with it.

We stayed in one of the small rooms which had no window and like most hotel rooms without a window, had an unpleasant smell (there were moth balls or something in the bathroom which stank horribly so we packed them into a plastic bag while we stayed there). The room came with A/C, TV (only few English channels), high-speed internet, cold water shower, towels and toiletries. Oh yes, there is no sink, only a tap . The room was small but quiet and had a little desk and wardrobe. The big rooms are large and bright. Breakfast was included in the price. On our first morning we ordered roti (two slices of toast) which came filled with what looked like grated cheese, jam, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate sauce and honey….. It made for a pretty unsatisfying and rather strange breakfast option in our opinion. The next day we ordered the fried noodles which were delicious and filling. The restaurant is a nice place to hang out and the internet is fast. Food was average. Wear mosquito repellent as they are lots of bugs in the restaurant!
I think the room was average for its price but what really makes this hotel a great place to stay is the incredible friendly and helpful staff! When we arrived at night it seemed as if they were all waiting for us. The welcome was almost over the top. We were immediately served a drink, checked in, and our luggage was carried to our room where the A/C was already running by the time we went there. Every time we were greeted with a smile and a friendly hello and the door was held open for us. Not all staff members speak English but they called someone who was fluent when needed. They truly understand customer service! We got help sorting out our trip and two ladies drove us to the bus station to buy the tickets for our night bus and drove us to another bus station where they found the bus for us to Berestagi. It would have taken us a lot of time to figure it out ourselves… We could also store our luggage for free for a few days.

TIP: If you hate Medan as much as many travelers do, this hotel is perfectly located behind the Sun Plaza- a large and modern mall with many restaurants and coffee shops with high-speed internet. There is a good money exchange on the ground floor of the mall (where all the ATMs are). There is really nothing to do in Medan, don’t spend any extra days there or avoid it all together if you can…

Room Tip: the larger rooms have windows

The guesthouse is very nice looking with a café downstairs. It's just a minute's walk to a huge shopping mall. The good is that the staff were wonderful, they tried their best with their limited english and were very sweet and helpful. The owner's husband was brilliant and took us on a free impromptu tour of the city, plus gave us great rates on cars. The bad was that the bathroom had no sink, water was only cold and the air con kept turning off of its own accord in the night so the room got very hot. Ok for 1 night but not more.

Room Tip: Don't pay the extra for the big room, it's not worth it

Only 7 months old, clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff as well. Because all the normal rooms were booked, they gave me the family room for 200.000r (special price of course).
No need to leave the house of zaza - ;) - since they also have good food.
It will make your stay in Medan nicer...
