“Good for a night or two”
Reviewed 28 November 2013 via mobile

Stayed for a night only for the location adjacent to lots of food establishments. MacDonald on the front and a food court on the back. Loads of halal food around too for the muslims.

The room however is a bit old and need of clean up here and there. The carpet and towel had stains. Having a small cloth for wiping wet feet in front of the bathroom could help a lot. The bathroom had standing shower which is fine but the water drain doesnt flow fast enough.

Bed and tv was fine. Though they should improve the wifi coverage as it does not work at level 5. Breakfast was an ok spread.

Be aware of illegal website claiming to be the official website. They will take booking fee without placing a booking for you. The official website is www.madanihotelmedan.com . Thanks to the Manager Mr Ramlan for letting us stay for a night despite booking at the wrong website. I really think Madani management can do something about this illegal one.

The location is not bad as located opposite a mall, Masjid Raya & there's a food court that have variety of halal food behind the hotel. Go for deluxe room-Masjid Raya.view. The room is not that clean. I sneeze a lot as I believe the room is very dusty. Found leftover nuts..hairs on the carpet...the bed sheet stained, the wall is yellowish...the bathroom drainage is blocked while shower & obviously not clean. The housekeeping was very slow. I have to call twice for every request.I wouldn't come back to this hotel unless they refurbish the place. This hotel is not syariah enough as it's not clean. They should really improve on this.

Room Tip: Deluxe room with Masjid Raya view but a bit noisy as near to the main road. Traffic starts as early...

Madani Hotel is one of the most-known hotels in Medan. Located in the heart of the city, its longstanding popularity is well deserved.

When you first arrive at the hotel, the sight of the lobby's grandeur is something to behold. The architecture makes it stand out among other hotels I've visited. There is also a small convenience store right next to the lobby that's pretty adequate for your needs, selling bags, souvenirs, shirts, snacks, and over the counter drugs. Also next to the lobby were halls available for rent for occasions such as meetings and weddings - the lobby can get pretty crowded because the main access to these halls is through the lobby.

The rooms (or at least the one I had) are not particularly exquisite. They are very run-of-the-mill hotel rooms, with generic and slightly old (although I heard plans about renovating them) architecture and furnishing. Adequate.

The hotel's restaurant is large and has enough variety, more than smaller hotels but nothing quite fantastic. It's what you'd expect from the hotel.

The service is pleasant enough. With the amount of international travelers staying here, I believe the staff are capable of tending to English-speaking guests.

The value is just right for the size and quality of the hotel.

Overall, the exquisite (lobby) architecture and very strategic location make it a worthwhile place to stay.

Stayed for 3 nights for international conference at Universitas Muhammadiyyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU). Overall hotel is good with strategic location. At the heart of metropolitan Medan. The restaurant also good with local dishes. Room also excellent. Value for your money. This
hotel can be considered as Shariah-compliant hotel although not fulfill all the requirments to be Shariah-compliant hotel. Hope in the future, this hotel can be as a reference to the full Shariah-compliant hotel in Indonesia.

This hotel was just plain depressing. The guest rooms did not live up to the promise of the grand lobby and sharp looking bellmen in colorful uniforms. The walls and worn, patched carpets were stained and the white duvet cover looked faintly grey, though thank heavens the actual sheet was snowy white. The shower was pretty bad, with mold on the tiles and the bathroom smelled nasty. Amenities include TV with a couple of English stations, an electric teakettle and a prayer rug in the closet. There is free Wi-Fi and breakfast is included, with average Indonesian food (halal), fresh fruit and a cook who can make eggs. The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke decent English.

Its location could be considered convenient, being directly kitty-corner from the Grand Mosque, across the street from a modern multi-story shopping mall and next to a food court (just turn left as you exit the hotel). Across from the food court is a small convenience store. In the evening the call to prayer from the mosque competes with the nearby karaoke bar. The hotel prides itself on being built according to Sharia law so it may have appeal for Muslims, but for the average American it leaves much to be desired and is in serious need of room renovation. Since gritty Medan doesn’t offer much in the way of tourist attractions you can probably do better to find a place that is more pleasant to spend time in if you’re in transit to other, more appealing parts of Sumatra, such as Lake Toba or Sabang.

Room Tip: It’s hard to know where a quiet room might be as the hotel is sandwiched between the Grand Msque and...
