Amazing building, beautifully prepared rooms -- even if the pictures on the website promise perhaps a little more than what you find in reality. Definitely check out the wine cellar and the breakfast room is gorgeous as well. We didn't use the Spa. The staff was very friendly and helpful and booked us a table at Uri Buri (which was a disappointment, however, both in terms of food and atmosphere). The only downside is the neighbourhood around the hotel, which didn't feel particularly comfortable after sunset (quite dirty, few people as it was off-season, no streetlights). That might be a different story during the summer months, however.

This hotel is a rare property in Israel - it only has a small number of rooms and caters to a crowd looking for something off the beaten path. You feel like you are a guest in someone's private ancient home, rather than staying at a hotel. Moran at the front desk was extremely helpful in arranging a driver and making reservations for us. When we arrived, I was a little surprised to find the hotel in the center of a noisy village, off a dark alley, rather than in a quiet spot along the water (we could hear a lot of street noise in our room). I also didn't feel comfortable walking around the hotel by ourselves at night, which is a nice thing to do while on vacation. There are a few small tweaks that could make this property AMAZING rather than just a good experience - fluffy pillows, cozier rugs in the rooms, more towels, candles, and other small luxuries that make a property feel extra special. The rooms are graciously sized and the building itself is well-maintained. They have the raw material but are lacking with the special touches (evening turn down, no gym and the spa seemed disappointing). The food was delicious at breakfast, elegantly served, and we especially enjoyed dinner in the wine cellar. I wouldn't return to this property so quickly but it was enjoyable and I am glad we experienced it.

Room Tip: Room 8 was very noisy

This is truly a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel. It takes you back to the time of Arab splendour. Its a true tribute to classic Arab culture while providing all the modern amenities of a top-notch western hotel. 12 rooms I believe, we were in a grand room but the smaller rooms are spectacular as well, with original (restored) decorated ceilings. Very expensive but if you can afford it - you get to live like a sultan for a day!! Very romantic!! The owner runs Israel's best fish restaurant around the corner - don't miss a dinner there. Breakfast at the hotel is a must as well. the public spaces are wonderfall to lounge in.

We stayed in the suite shown above. Stunning decorations throughout the hotel and suites. Breakfast was special with one long table for all guests to get to know each other. One little piece of advice - the loo is only partially blocked off from the room so if you are on a first date you might want to get your partner to take a stroll outside to avoid noisy embarrassments!
There is an ice cream shop that has a connection with the hotel that is a must as is the superb fish restaurant Uri Buri - the hotel will book you as I think they own it. A wonderful stop.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Nestled in the picturesque narrow lanes of Acre, the Efendi Hotel overlooks the historic city walls and the magnificent Mediterranean Sea beyond. The unique structure of this hotel combines two ancient houses that have hundreds of years of history stored within their walls. These houses were meticulously reconstructed and merged into one building before being converted into a boutique hotel.. Complex preservation and restoration work over a period of eight years gave birth to a gorgeous, breathtaking pearl that was truly a labor of love. Thought was invested in each and every detail of the preservation work, which was performed under the supervision of the Antiquities Authority. Artisans were specially flown in from Italy in order to undertake this delicate work, as well as the restoration of the beautiful ceilings. All rooms in the hotel are furnished and equipped to the highest standards, and each room has its own unique character and style. Some rooms' ceilings feature illustrations, while others are made from preserved wood. Most of the windows offer sea views, while others look out over the ancient city of Acre and the scenic mountains of the Western Galilee. ... more   less
