“Joy to stay there”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2013

this boutique hotel is right at the edge of the old city of Akko. The hotel is the result of extensive wonderful renovations to a building that has served multiple purposes over the years, and the hotel is actually in the city's old stone walls. The hotel owner was warm and welcoming and very helpful. The parking was free and only for the hotel guests and this is a wonderful thing to find in Israel, especially when you are staying in an historic district.

Akko itself it quite amazing. The different attractions that are completed (as in restored/updated) are very well done. You can see additional work being done in other areas that will also be an asset in time.

we stayed at the hotel for one night between friday to saturday and had a very nice time. the renovation is extraordinary and the hospitality was really warm. the hotel is really centrally located in the old city and the quality of the hotel is indeed high as would be excpected. however, for the price we would except some more: coffee facilities in the room, cappucino for breakfast without extra charge, a late cheqeout on saturday. overall we had a good stay and liked the placeand recommend the hotel for future guests

Room Tip: each room is different.

Ancient building was cleverly restored into this interesting hotel space. Immaculately clean. Attentive staff. Good location. Walk to all sites. Easy access to Haifa to the south and Galilee. Would stay again.

Thank you for writing, "short to the point". Indeed Acre was known as the capital of the western Galilee, it is close to Rosh Hanikra Grottoes, Nazareth, Haifa, Sea of Galilee. Welcome again

We absolutely loved this hotel! Just staying there and learning the history of the building and appreciating the thought given to each detail in the five years it took to renovate by the two families that own the Akkotel, was an Acco (Acre) experience all by itself. Stepping in to the lobby we immediately felt at home and we were greeted warmly by one of the owners, who, by the way, had stayed on the phone with us for at least ten minutes guiding us to the hotel. It is a bit tricky to find by car without a map or GPS. We all spent several minutes taking in the beautiful decor and the rooms were equally as interesting and very well equipped and clean. The breakfast was beautifully set out and delicious and the atmosphere in the dining room again was so inviting and beautiful. LOCATION! LOCATION!!!!! You simply could not be in a better location. If you arrive by car, you can park (there is monitored parking) and never have to worry about driving to the sites. All sites as well as restaurants.are walkable and what fun to be right in the old city.
The family was very helpful with suggestions, directions, anything that we needed!!
We would definitely recommend this hotel, actually we already have told all of our friends that it is worth going to Akko just for this hotel. On the way out the door yesterday we all told the owner that we'd like to move in!!!!!

On our trip to Israel we have stayed at 5 hotels in different towns. All were about the same price or cheaper than Akkotel. And all were better. On the plus side Akkotel is centrally situated, has secure parking and pleasant staff. As one would expect in a hotel at this price it has wifi. The rooms we had were large but as with the rest of the hotel all brown and fawn, with heavy old looking furniture. The net curtains and the shower curtains looked creased and grubby. I realise they probably weren't dirty as the room was spotless. I also appreciate that the attempt was to be authentic, but the result was charmless and dreary. I know that decor is a matter of taste, but the main problems with the rooms were the outlook on to a stone wall and air conditioning units and the street noise which was not shut out by the double glazing. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room but there was a fridge. The breakfast was adequate but not as good as in the other hotels. I would rate this hotel as just OK, but 225 usd a night not good value.
I am left wondering how this hotel acquired a TA Certificate of Excellence for 4 years running? Maybe TA staff can explain?

Room Tip: Ask for a room which does not face the Main Street and is on the top floor.

We spent 3 nights in Feb. 2013 in this very unique hotel. What made us happy:

- The location. The hotel is part of the old city wall, so just perfectly located in the old town of Acre. All interesting places are within walking distance. Despite the central old town location the hotel has some decidated video controlled parking lots next to the hotel entrance. Very helpfull, especially when you forget to turn off the car lights (like me) and the receptionist calls you at night telling you that your lights are still on...special thanks for that great service!
- The owner and staff: Very friendly and helpful staff, cozy atmosphere. Management style and hotel ambiance fit perfectly. You'll feel as a welcomed guest.
- The room: We had room 101 which was very spacious and had a unique bathroom setting. One of the biggest hotel rooms we ever had. Two flatscreen TV's (which we did'nt turn on) and free WIFI (worked very well).
- The breakfast: huge buffet israeli style breakfast, various salads, eggs, cheese, fish, bacon, hot dishes... Great!

We would definitely choose this hotel again and can recommend this house to travellers who are searching for an authentic and convenient hotel in best location.

This hotel is relatively good - it has a good location, helpful staff, rooms are well equipped, free parking inside the walls, free internet, free local phone calls, decent to good breakfast, and since it's built into the walls of the old city, it conveys a sense of history that is special to that part of the world.

On the negative side - the room layout is a bit awkward, there is no cellphone reception inside the rooms, it can get a bit noisy outside, the bed is a bit small, and the hotel is relatively expensive.

Ultimately it's about value - if you're willing to pay extra for an authentic ancient structure inside the old city walls, then just remember that this extra money is not going towards extra amenities and you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for telling us about your stay at Akkotel, we do appreciate your comments. As you said the Hotel is belt inside the walls so the room spaces are designed differently, each room has its character and our guests actually like it. The Hotel has family rooms, Gallery, single and double bed rooms. Concerning the cell phones, its because of the thick walls and most guests like the idea of being disconnected for a while. Thank you again
