“A delightful boutique hotel”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

A small modern hotel overlooking the desert on the outskirts of Arad - not a big town, so the hotel is easily reached by taxi or bus. As others have noted, the entrance is inconspicuous; the only signage is in Hebrew characters and unlit. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very good – and it is a delight to enjoy on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Negev desert. While not luxurious, our (standard grade) room was satisfactorily furnished, with a very comfortable bed - although the bedding was far too small for the king size bed.

The hotel was very helpful in suggesting things to do. Arad has a variety of marked hiking trails, some near the hotel, and many fine sculptures; the hotel provided us with a map on which both were marked. The Glass Art Museum, mainly featuring the work of Gidon Fridman, is well worth a visit. Arad is also well placed for visits (by car or bus) to Masada and Ein Gedi on the Dead Sea.

Great hotel. Hospitality of the owners is top notch. Very friendly and personable people. Quiet location - slept great. Rooms clean and comfortable. Stunning view. Breakfast was the best we had anywhere. If we were in the area again it would be our first choice.

We decided to stay in Arad while visiting the Dead Sea area in order to avoid the ugly, big and expensive hotels from the 70s, right by the water. We were dubious before we got there - we knew the drive to the sea was more than half hour - but, as soon as we got to Yehelim and were greeted by the owners with some good Isareli Chardonnay, the choice started feeling right.
Our room confirmed the feeling: big, quiet, tastefully furnished, the breakfasts were the best (and heartiest) of our entire trip (local made cheeses and jams, fruit and seed salad, home made bread, eggs and cold cuts!) and the advice from the owners always spot on.
And the drive to the water? Pleasant, with plenty of panoramic spots to take pictures of the (disappearing) Dead Sea. Plus, you can still access the big hotel's spas and pools for a reasonable price.

The perfect place to spend the night if you want to visit Masada, the Dead Sea and enjoy some spectacular desert views. The owners are friendly people and will answer all your questions about Israël, Arad etc. They even took us out in the desert at full noon to enjoy the desert by nightlight. The breakfast is delicious, they also prepareren dinner on request. A true gem for Arad!

Great place to stay in Arad. From Arad you can easily explore numerous hiking trails, famous Masada, the judean desert and ofcourse the dead sea. The hotel is small but has very spacious rooms with everything you need. Tv, wifi, big bathtub and balconies with amazing view over the desert and later the starry sky. It is owned by a couple who made us feel welcome and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Big breakfast is included and lunch or dinner can be arranged on request.

Yehelim is a newer construction B&B with great amenities each room having a balcony, and offering a great Israeli breakfast. We had a rental car and planed to visit Masada on our way back to Jerusalem; Arad, where Yehelim is located, was the only logical choice. It is also close (relatively) to the "back side" of Masada where the Roman's ramp was built that took Masada, and where the Masada "sound and light" show is performed during high season. It was a longer drive from Arad than expected, winding through steep hills, but the sound and light show was worth it.

Our only difficulty was finding Yehelim, as we arrived just at dusk. It is located directly behind a clinic with a neon sign "Chinese Clinic."

Yehelim gave us excellent recommendations for dinner in this off the beaten tourist track location.

We had room 5 which had its own courtyard (where we could dry our clothes and shoes after a day in Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea). The room was massive with a very good bed, air conditioning and good blockout curtains The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful with good advice about the wider area. Breakfast is served on the terrace at the top of the property with a view across the desert to the sea. As we drank our tea, a camel caravan crossed in the distance (apparently they do that every day). It was very atmospheric and gave a desert feel to a place that admittedly is in the middle of a sizable modern town. Breakfast was a filling combination of cooked food and fruit and cheeses. When I left a pillow behind (lent to me by a friend to use on the trip), the management kindly mailed it back to my friend at their cost. This place is a bit hard to find, so make sure you have a map or good directions. It's worth it when you get there.
