Adobe & Stars Bed and Breakfast Inn of Taos
Ranked #1 of 3 Arroyo Seco B&B and Inns
Reviewed 9 November 2013

The Adobe and Stars B&B is top notch! This well-kept establishment is comfortable, quiet, serves delicious breakfasts and has friendly and accommodating staff. We booked the Polaris room as we have on previous stays. The room is large and comfortable and conducive to deep, relaxing sleep. The staff served us a lovely glass of wine the afternoon of our arrival. They allowed us to invite our son for breakfast on both days of our stay (at no cost) and graciously accommodated his dietary needs. I cannot say enough nice things bout this B&B and will always stay here on our trips to the Taos area.

On a long trip this was going to be our "rest" in a nicer-than-a-motel setting. I regret not just staying in a Motel 6. The cook here is the only thing to recommend it. The owner is unfriendly, unconcerned with guests unless they are her personal friends, their doors are weird (seriously, they have weird doors) and nothing about it is comfortable or inviting.

Adobe and Stars was a very nicely located bed and breakfast outside of the main Taos area. The problem with this place is the owner. If you book a reservation DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING THERE ANY EARLIER then check in at 4:00 pm. My son and I had the misfortune to do so, mainly because there was an 100 year event rain storm in the region, and we were welcomed by an owner who was very irate that we did NOT adhere to her policy. When we came back after the allotted time she did apologize but continued to be the most negative human. Furthermore, there is NO Cable or any other TV reception in the rooms. We were told that because the advertisement for the bed and breakfast did not specifically say there was no television reception, we should have assumed there was none. She did have a television in the room that you could play movies on. Her negativity continued about the restaurant choices and whatever else you asked her about. My son and I were wondering why this woman was even in the bed and breakfast business! The only saving grace with this place was the wonderful French woman that made and served breakfast. She was the most graceful and delightful person and every breakfast for our three day stay was WONDERFUL.

We stayed here, or I should say, started to stay here in early September. The electricity went out and we could not locate the innkeeper. Although I had several hours left on my oxygen, we packed up in the dark and stayed in Taos. Our problem is not that the electricity went out, but that the innkeeper abandoned her responsibility and did not even have an emergency phone number available to her guests.

Beautiful views from our room, La Luna. Bobbi, who served us breakfast, was very nice. Room was clean, bed was comfy, though the owner, Judy, warned us not to buy Pella windows because they were problematic, and that candles only were to be used in the kiva fireplace until after the first snow due to fire risk. Jacuzzi tub with shower head attachment was great, but due to the upstairs location of the room, there is a notice posted stating can only be used between 7 am-11pm. B&B website says there is a hot tub under the stars, but that is apparently a seasonal feature and wasn't in operation for our visit.

This B&B is about half way between the town of Taos and the Taos Ski Valley, in the tiny town of Arroyo Seco. We have stayed there on multiple occasions and have always enjoyed it for the beauty of the setting, the friendliness and graciousness of the proprietor, the creative breakfasts, the flower garden that is a veritable magnet for hummingbirds ... and on and on. The only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5-star rating (which I rarely give) is that the place could use some maintenance. The week before our latest stay involved a powerful windstorm that dislodged one or two windows from the room we were originally slated to occupy. There was no problem relocating us to a different room, but that one will require some repairs (difficult as it is on the second floor and some of the repairs must be made from the outside) before it is suitable for use. More of an issue was the fact that the hot tub, a much-appreciated feature from years past, was out of service. This too needs to be repaired for the place to earn the highest possible score. There are occasional bits of peeling paint, etc., as well, but those are cosmetic in nature and shouldn't affect your stay. All told, we loved it, still love it, and will be back, but we hope it will get some effective maintenance before our next visit.

Room Tip: Pretty well all of the rooms we have seen have been excellent, but if you're there for stargazin...

This bed and breakfast north of Taos, NM is fantastic. The accommodations, food and location are stunning. Each morning one is greeted with a marvelous breakfast overlooking a flower filled patio complete with dueling hummingbirds. The owner is on site and greets you every evening with recommendations for dinner, and cheerful conversation. One couldn't ask for a more restful, beautiful setting.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are spacious-one with a private deck facing the Santa Fe and Jemez mountains.
