Description: Ernest Hemingway's 1952 novel The Old Man and the Sea depicts the world of a poor Cuban fisherman who fights the wild sea. These elements of sea, fish and noble nature have also inspired the establishment of the well-known restaurant on Jaffa's Kedem Street - The Old Man and the Sea.

As soon as you sit down the waiter comes over with 20 salads. Not sure what everything was but very tasty. Dishes were constantly replaced throughout the meal. Dennis fish was very tasty. Mint tea and small donut type dessert was nice way end to meal.

Perfectly located in the Old Jaffa Port. Great place for Middle Eastern cuisine. Bring your appetite, you will never leave this place hungry. They serve over 20 different salad including warm pita bread, hummus, falafel, baba ganoush and other various salad. Also a pitcher of mint lemonade. All the appetizers is included with the price of the meal. You dont even need to order a main course. Be warned its a lot of food. I advice for a party of 2, you can just order one main dish and share. The service is prompt, attentive. They will even bring you more salad if you finish a plate. This place is perfect if you have a big group. Its a little pricey but then again Tel Aviv is pricey. But I dont mind paying if the food is good. This definitely an experience. I am looking forward to trying out this place again when I come. I recommend it if you are visiting Tel Aviv.

The place is big with a nice balcony and in pleasant winter weather it's lovely to sit there. It's very crowded on weekends so it's better avoiding them. In tne week days the stuff has more time and you don't have to wait long to be seated. The food is not fancy but very good and plenty of it too. We always enjoy going there.

Just get to the restaurant, they fill the table with all kind of salads (Israelis, Arab, Iraqi, Turkish ...) and a pitcher of lemonade. All salads have no additional cost to the bill. The speciallity of the restaurant is fish. The portions are tasty and big The service is fast and efficient. The value for money is excellent. This is one of the nicest restaurants of Jaffa by its large terrace.
The only bad thing is the big queue you need to do to get a table.

after a nice family tour of old Jaffa, we decided to have a fish lunch at this restaurant, at it"s original location at Kedem street, beautiful location with perfect sea breeze.
we preffered sitting on the beautiful outside balcony.
we were welcomed with a widw selection of starters an hot pita bread, and jars of cold lemonade, the starters were impressing by the look, but nothing to write home on the taste side.
we ordered a few gilt head breams deep fried, and the famous small red mullets called here "barbunia".
and we received the breams completely dried, and the most tragic thing happened with the red mullets... they served some substitute much bigger fish 3 times the size of the known bream, soaked heavily in oil, non crispy as it should be, and from the color of it's meat, it seems to be that they were frozen and not fresh fish.we tried to taste, but it was uneatable, and left most untouched fish on the plate.
of course we have complained, and one of the waiters told me that he refused to take an order for the mullets from an adjacent table because these are not mullets, and he was surprised that the other waiter did not tell us, and took the order knowing that he is not serving the fish we ordered.
.... so they gave us some discount.. and were not ashamed to charge us with about us$ 200 !!!
so as a fish lover and a Jaffa grown and educated citizen, I am ashamed for the bad reputation that such a restaurant is causing to the ola tradition of Jaffa restaurants.
