“Lovely Inn with great service”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

This is a lovely boutique hotel with plenty of old world charm. The furnishings make you feel like you are stepping back in time.

There is a bag of the state cookie of New Mexico provided in the room upon arrival, and they are quite tasty. The toiletries provided are very nice and the soft sheets and thick towels are amazing. Breakfast was excellent with hot breakfast sandwiches, fresh berries, and oatmeal among other choices. On our first night we enjoyed eating frozen yogurt from the shop across the street on the roof patio swing. The Inn also offers a Family/Conference Room on the ground floor that has space for large group dining and an area to relax with a large seating area and TV. Although we didn't work out, there is an arrangement with the local health club for guests to receive free access to the health club.

The Ocotillo Performing Arts Center is just across the street, and the Heritage Inn offers packages that include a show with your lodging. The Inn is on Main Street and within easy walking distance to numerous interesting shops.

Ryan and Neva have created an amazing Inn. If you are wanting to visit the Carlsbad area, stay here instead. The drive to the cave is a short one from Artesia, and the Heritage Inn is a much better option than paying for an overpriced chain hotel in Carlsbad and dealing with the crowded conditions the oil boom has created.

Room Tip: Ask for a room toward the rear of the hotel for less road noise.

Carlsbad Caverns are fantastic. However, finding good, safe and affordable accommodations are problematic in Carlsbad, NM. The energy boom makes many hotels there very expensive, noisy and almost fully occupied with workers [just read a few Trip Advisor reviews].

A solution is to stay in Artesia, NM. It is 35 miles on the highway North of Carlsbad.

The Inn is in downtown Artesia and is easily accessible just off the highway. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. It is an older facility, but very well-maintained. The rooms are comfortable and roomy: nicely decorated, clean and quiet, good bed. There was a nice breakfast buffet in the lobby: fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, juice, etc. There is a variety of food options very close.

The best part is that the cost is a third of comparable rooms in Carlsbad. It is still within an easy drive of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. I left after breakfast and still arrived in time for the first ranger tour of the day.

One concern for some travelers is that the front desk and most of the rooms are on the second floor, and there is no elevator.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the Main Street.

I really loved the Heritage Inn! Every detail is thought of, from complimentary cookies at check-in, to bottled water, to a snack pantry (snacks for a small fee), different types of pillows, nice toiletries in the bathroom (even a mini sewing kit!) The room was totally comfortable and everything was sparkling clean. There is even a lovely patio to allow you to sit outside. Breakfast was excellent for an included continental breakfast, with oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, fruit, and much more. This was no fault of the inn's, but do be aware that the temperature in your room is customizable by thermostat (I failed to see this and didn't adjust the AC for sleeping, and it's quite powerful--which is a good thing!). If I ever happen to pass through this tiny town again, I will definitely stay at the lovely Heritage Inn.

Nice place to stay. Rooms were comfortable Breakfast was good Location good.

Only fault is all but one room are up a long flight of stairs and cases get heavy before the top for us oldies.
My suggestion was one of those electric stair lifts that go up stairs even for the cases.

Room Tip: Would get the downstairs room even at an extra cost if I returned

We met my cousin and his wife here, so that we had a base to go down to visit Carlsbad Caverns.
They had a larger room facing the main street, but found that the traffic noise was irritating as they live in a quiet mountain home. We had one of the smaller side rooms facing out over the car park so that was quiet for us.
Car parking was convenient and we were able to get close to the door to haul our luggage inside and up the stairs.
The breakfast was good, - coffee and tit-bits available most times of the day.
The managers and their staff are excellent, the rooms clean and comfy.
The only downside is that the accom. is all upstairs above the ground floor shop, and there is no elevator as the historic building has no space for one. Therefore, we found getting our luggage up and down was tiring so we suggested that at least a stair-lift could be installed so either guests could sit & ride on it, or put luggage on it and power it upstairs.
Thanks folks for a good safe stay!

Room Tip: There are 11 rooms, so ask what facilities each has then decide what you need.

I recently stayed at the Heritage Inn in Artesia, NM. Unfortunately, my visit was not for pleasure but rather honoring the memory of an American hero whose life was taken while serving our country in Afghanistan. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. Staff was pleasant, kind and helpful. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. My room was perfect - cozy and comfortable. I love the movement through the inn - lots to explore. My favorite place was the rooftop lounge where every morning I could sit on the swing with a cup of hot coffee while watching the sun rise over the refinery. Many thanks, Heritage Inn, for making what was a difficult visit, as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Blessings to you all.

Spent Memorial Day weekend here. Half way between Carlsbad & Roswell. Stayed in room 11 - it can sleep 2 adults & 2 teenage kids (on queen sleeper sofa). It even has kitchen in this room. The free breakfast was great - Paninis - always fresh fruit & more. Free bottle water & cookies upon check in & microwave popcorn when you want it. Very nice small family run boutique hotel - only has 11 rooms. High recommend if you are in the area.
The only down side - laundry room is above room 11 & next to stairs. This was only a problem for me in the morning - rest of the family slept through it.

Room Tip: Get room 11 if it is open
