The Trip Advisor app has this in the wrong spot. 11 miles wrong. But a very nice archeological site - wear very good shoes and plan for a couple of hours on foot. Be sure to take the tunnel underground to the water system - and visit the model in the museum at the beginning & end of the tour to calibrate.

Thank Doug B

We came here to spend a few hours after leaving Haifa. Tel Megiddo's Visitor Center has a very informative video that gives information on the site, watch it! The Visitor Center's display shows what Tel Megiddo looked like with interactive buttons.

Once you leave the Visitor Center the walk to all the points of interest are easy and clearly marked. Walking down to the water system isn't that bad, but be advised you do not walk out back to the same location! If you have left someone behind that didn't want to go down into the water system, you either have to walk back the way you came or tell them to meet you at the Visitor Center.

The views of the Jezreel Valley are pretty farmscapes. I found the entire trip to Tel Megiddo, both beautiful and informative.

Megiddo is a very important site in Christianity. Armageddon will be, according to the Book of Revelation, the site of gathering of armies for a battle during the end times. "Mount" Megiddo is not actually a mountain, but a tell (a hill created by many generations of people living and rebuilding on the same spot). It was amazing to see the 25 different settlement periods built on top of the previous civilization -- so many layers of history! I especially enjoyed exploring the well systems. *Funny side note... there were black millipedes EVERYWHERE (Archispirostreptus syriacus)! We must have seen 300 in our 2 hour stay. No need to be afraid of them, they are harmless.

The excavations at Tel Megiddo show the long history of battles for the Holy Land. It's rewly worth a visit. And it's one of the many national parks that allow entry with the joint national park pass.

Lots to see here that is well-preserved. Layers upon layers of generations stacked on top of each other.

Be sure to descend the steps down into the dug out well and spring. Very cool.

Falafels at the restaurant are good too!
