Beautiful Church where traditionally the Angel Gabriel told Mary about the Miraculous event of the coming of Jesus

This is one of the most impressing churches I ever visited. Take a few moments to get used to it, get a good guide to walk you through its's many wonders and take at least 2 hours for this tour. This modern church was built in the 60's, a fact which is definitely reflected in its' architectural design. Once you get in ( after spending a good 45 minutes exploring the front and the yard) you find yourself in a bare cement hall, carefully designed to focus you on the first level's unique gem - Mary's cave. It's hard to translate the experience into words, I 'll just say that even the floor tiles are specially set to create a visual illusion of stairs, leading down to the cave. The second level looks more like a familiar sanctuary, still very modern, wonderfully decorated with art dedicated to the Virgin Mary by international artists, representing their countries. Check up the American piece (wow!), the Japanese, the Mexican and the pice from Cameron, my favorites. There's a lot more to tell about this church, our wonderful guide, Dr. Sharif Safadi of the municipality of Nazareth thought me a lot about the city's history and about this amazing church. Do not miss it!!!

We arrived just as it opened before setting out on the Jesus Trail. I was not prepared for what we experienced. The Mary mosaics from around the world were beautiful to begin with. And then the church itself was so thoughtfully constructed by melding simple materials with grandiose architecture. Blown away. Worth the visit!

This is a very modern church, so you don't go here to see ancient architecture. But you SHOULD go here to experience the possibility that this could be where Mary received her angelic visit. When my wife and I visited, we were inspired by the thought that, even if this is not the exact location, it is almost certainly very hear the exact location. We were inspired thinking of how Mary's life was changed so dramatically here or near here. If you drive here, be very careful. Driving in Nazareth is NOT simple and NOT calm! But it's possible.
