“Best hotel in Israel”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

I have been in the Scots hotel for a weekend with my wife. This hotel cannot be compared to the shabby old hotel in the area and stands out to be in an other league.
We have been in the modern rooms, which are a in a new building beside the historic ones, and we found them very comfortable and clean.
The restaurant is not kosher and this might be a problem for religious people, but therefore it's possible to eat ham, cheese, lobsters and cappuccino on Saturday...
The pool is a great alternative to the beaches and has also a nice restaurant.
The hotel offers free historic tours and music on weekends.

We had a great time and would come again although the relatively high price.

The moment we arrived it was obvious that this hotel has a different air to it than the usual Tiberias hotel. The service was warm and welcoming. Our room wasn't ready, so they held our things and offered us to enjoy the pool while the room was prepared. The pool was wonderful and felt almost like a private (but large) pool. There were only one more family there and another couple. The lifeguard let us know when the room was ready. It was beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. The tour of the hotel with a guide who told it's historic values was very interesting to all of us. The meals were excellent (compliments to the chef and staff). Gourmet food in the evening and great breakfasts in the morning. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute of it.

I was only at the Scots Hotel for 1 night with a work conference, however from what I did see before hand and while I was there was stunning!

Despite the 42 degrees, it was like stepping into a little Oasis in Israel. The main house was stunning, with beautiful features and views over the Sea of Galilee, once the heat haze had risen! My bedroom was one of the standard rooms in the newer block which was fine for what I needed.

We visited the wine cellar, conference room and dinner in the restaurant which were all nice and airy, with a hint of Scotland from the staff and their kilts!!

The food was good apart from my last meal there where the chicken was raw, so had to leave it, but the rest of the F&B was of a good standard.

Its great that this hotel extended over the road to the swimming pool area, because in that heat and humidity a swim was a welcome break!

If in Tiberias again, I would definitely stay here and recommend to others thinking about it - just watch the chicken! 8o) Next time I would want to try and get out of the hotel for a look round!

I loved the stay but wanted to see about buying the hand lotion they use along with the shampoo but when I emailed them I never got a response.I sure wish I could order that and a robe from the Scots Hotel.

We stayed at the Scots at the end of May. Immediately charmed by the old european feel of the reception desk. We had a room in the antique section, in the doctors house, great room, very high ceilings, great bed, sofa, desk, flat screen but most appreciated the nespresso machine... Great laundry service, ironing board located on the same floor. We really enjoyed dinner, the buffet was great both evenings, and the breakfast was really good. No offense intended, but it was nice to have ham and bacon with our eggs. Great home made jams, including a fantastic fennel bulb marmalade. They have a great bar with a great whiskey selection and kilt wearing bartenders...Take some time to explore the beautiful gardens.
The pool was very welcome after days of touring, too bad it was closing at 6pm, this is the moment it would probably be the most frequented, everyone back from visiting the region. All in all, a very nice hotel, most enjoyable

The hotel is actually a former hospital and is located just a few steps from the Sea of Galilee / lake Knesset. The grounds are well taken care of and the property itself is very well maintained. My room was very clean and modern and the pool area is very nice. This is definitely one of the nicer hotels in Tiberias as you can probably tell by the price, but I felt that I got my money's worth. The service was great and the front desk / concierge was very helpful with arranging tours / itineraries of the local sites. There is a great selection of scotch and wines from the local wineries. The hotel restaurant is also very good and offers a nightly buffet style dinner. If you stay here charge everything to your room so you get the VAT refunded at checkout.
Overall I had a great stay and would recommend this hotel.

We had two rooms in the anitque building. They were quite large and one had a beautiful sea view. The hotel is very charming and has a proud an interesting history. We usually like big 5 star plus hotels with all the amenities and were quite happy here. Tiberias is not the most upscale town, but this hotel is upscale and attracts a nice clientele which was definitely a noticeable bonus. The gardens are pretty and well-teneded. There is a large pool overlooking the Galilee and you are just on the edge of the town so not in the middle of the city feeling. Breakfast was good. The buffet dinner was okay but not great. Scots is right across the street the from Decks which is a landmark restaurant. We would return if we came back to this part of Israel.
The only thing that was weak was the air conditioining but we did hit the hottest day of the year in Israel>
