Advantages: friendly hosts, helpful staff, fair food, clean and spacious rooms, calm ambience, cool design, private parking, great views, the nearest Carana beach is outstanding.

Weaknesses: pretty far from the beach, very steep slope, so it's better to use a car to go up and down; hotel's swimming pool looks unpleasant, so I didn't try to swim there; breakfasts are okay but not the best; there's no hot water in the morning in room's shower at all;

I recommend to book this hotel only if you are going to rent a car during your stay there. Because all restaurants, shops and the most memorable places of Mahe are easily reachable by car. Not by bus or on foot, This hotel is quite secluded. Even the nearest beach is quite far. But still it's a great and calm place to stay. For couples, families and honeymooners as well.

Room Tip: Family room is good.

From the start on, we were welcomed by Eileen with a welcome drink. It was immediately clear that this is a very small scale business, which allows the owners to really make a connection with their guests. They are very friendly and take the time to talk to you and to help you in any way possible. They arranged a car hire for us that we could pick up at the airport.
We were on honeymoon and got a free upgrade with amazing views. Upon arrival, the TV wasn't functioning, but they sorted that out very quickly (within a day).
The room was spacious with a private balcony. The bed, however, was quite narrow. The en-suite bathroom had a big bath, but there was no door, only a curtain. There was airconditioning in the room, but as we turned it off at night (because of the noise) the room heated up quickly.
Housekeeping is very thorough. You could eat off the floor...
The breakfast was simple but nice, consisting of a plate of fruit, eggs, toast, butter, jam, bananas frittas and coffee/tea. Maybe a larger choice of fruits (buffet?) would have been better, but we certainly couldn't complain.
The guesthouse is not located on the beach, but a short walk downhill leads you to a 'hidden' beach with a lot of privacy. Beware, the slope is very steep.
All in all, we were very pleased with the accomodations. If you are looking for a small guesthouse with a personal approach, this is the place to stay for you!

we spent a couple of nights with Eileen & Mike and they were so warm and welcoming . The rooms were of a comfortable size , clean and had all the amenities you would be looking for. There is a great outside area with ample room for evening dinners. We had two home cooked barbeque meals that were great . Mike and Eileen treat their clients like family and go out of their way to make you feel right at home.

Definately staying here on our next visit, very friendly and happy environment

Room Tip: the room on the bottom floor is the only one so you will have the whole floor to yourself , very pri...

We were in few hotels in Seychelles and I can say that I have great pleasure to admit that this one was very comfortable. We visited Carana on June 2013. The owners were so nice-I wrote to Eileen so many mails before our trip. She was patient and she gave me answers for my each question. Her husband was very funny. Place is beautiful, service (lovely lady who prepares our breakfast) excellent and last but not least-very nice rooms. We had one of the biggest-type superior. And one more thing swimming pool with crocodile ;)

It is a reasonable priced accommodation a bit far from town, though. In fact it is a house with several bedrooms. What I like the most was the breakfast on the terrace and the hospitality of the owner. She welcomed us with nice fresh fruits from the garden. One of the things that needs to be looked after is the pool, since the two days we stayed there it had lots of leaves, so we couldn't use it.
We had dinner there and food was delicious. It was actually proper creole food, difficult to find in other restaurant in the island, since most of the food is international.

This was my sixth stay in the Seychelles. One part of the Seychelles that I have never explore earlier was the north of Mahe. For this purpose I choose Carana Hilltop Villa. My choose turn out to be a little jewel. When we arrive after a long flight Eileen and Mike welcome us with a cold drink. This was a start of a marvellous vacation. The Carana Hilltop Villa is embedded in green lush of palms and other endemic threes. In front of the villa you can spend lacy days around the pool. The food which served at the villa is tasty and exotic. I and my family give the best recommendations for Carana Hilltop Villa.

Carana Hilltop is a great home base for us in Seychelles.Michael and Eileen organized a fantastic fishing trip for us on the first day. We were also directed to further activities and destinations at Mahe and other outlying islands and had a great and exciting experience. We feel like home as we were pampered with good food in the evening so we may relax and rejuvenate. Eileen goes her way out to remove the spikes and help bandage my foot after I accidentally step on an sea urchin while snokelling. We stayed 5 nights in a room with ocean views from the hill. We also love breakfast time in the villa garden with mountain views at the back. The garden has different kinds of trees. At the time we were staying there were big avocados and Michael picked half a dozen of them to add to our already over loading luggage to bring home on the morning we left. Thanks to the hosts who have helped made our trip most enjoyable and memorable.
