This place is just simply amazing. If you are looking for a place that is quaint and quiet with a lot of character than this is the place to stay. The bed is extremely comfortable. I would stay here again anytime. If you are looking for a normal hotel atmosphere than this not the place. Everyone needs to realize that this is an old mansion turned into a bed and breakfast hence why I chose it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I plan on staying there for every visit I take to Albany which is a few times a year.

It is also walking distance to many great restaurants.

The website and our booking agency never mentioned the 4th floor walk-up to our room; other reviews regarding this room fail to mention that also, as did the owner when our confirmation email arrived. No help with bags and the young man who was on watch when we arrived was scruffy and shockingly unhelpful; he never told us that we could access the guest house directly through the alley/garage from the parking area behind the house-instead allowing us to haul our own bags around the block and back to the entrance. When we expressed a little dismay that our room was on the 4th floor (no lift), he said (quoting directly) "are you asking me to help you with your bags?" making it clear that he had no intention of helping. His job was to take our money, hand out keys and return to his nap.
The room was lovely and immaculate but we still would not stay here again as it seems pertinent to mention the stairs and lack of help (or at least for our arrival). A pitcher of ice water would seem a nice touch for the 4th floor occupants rather than requiring that they hoof it up and down 4 flights of stairs to the kitchen.
Also, for those who are less familiar with urban life, the location is only "great" if you are comfortable walking in dodgy urban areas. Just to highlight this fact, we became part of a couple's domestic dispute as we were trying to leave the gated parking area located behind the guesthouse (again, if the young man on arrival watch had bothered to let us through the garage behind the parking lot, we would have felt safer).
We would give this accomodation less stars if not for the 5 minute conversation we had the morning we left (after one night) with the woman who we assume is the owner of the establishment. She was friendly and helpful, but it is still her responsibility to let guests know IN ADVANCE that the room they have chosen is 4 flights up with no lift. Bed and Breakfasts are not for everyone and this one was definitely not for us.

Room Tip: Ask what floor your room is located-this establishment has no lift and (depending on whose on call f...

Right in the centre of Albany and near to the restaurant street of Lark street and opposite Washington park we arrived on a very hot day that moved to torrential rains and storms. Even that could not spoil our stay very lovely rooms with great individual character. Sadly the equally great public spaces were a bit too hot or (the garden) off limits because of rain.
Breakfast was serve yourself so not really anything to write home about but perfectly adequate.
Would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 2F is amazing large light with a great bathroom, however for Bookworms Room 2B has its own smal...

Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable - the recommendations for shopping and dining were spot on. We also enjoyed walking across the street and around the park located directly across the street. We stayed in the artist studio suite - which is beautiful for all the natural light. The snacks in the kitchen were perfect after coming in after touring the city, and the light breakfast was just what we needed before continuing on with the rest of our vacation. The only thing that prevented this from being an "excellent" experience was the unfortunate sight of a large dead bug in the kitchen. :(

Room Tip: Artist Studio Suite was airy and full of natural light.

The Morgan State House is a lovely, historic building in a great location. We stayed in the Washington House annex, which has suites with a kitchenette. On the PLUS side: scrupulously clean room and bathroom. Comfortable bed with lots of pillows and an extra down duvet. Large bathroom. Gorgeous view of Washington Park, close to the trendy and charming part of Albany close to government buildings, & nice restaurants. Courteous and pleasant staff. The only MINUS: the rooms in the annex do not have wifi, you have to use the lobby. I hope ALL lodging soon goes totally wifi - even for leisure travel the internet connection is vital- that's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the park.

I was a little surprised to read many of the glowing reviews, since my experience was so different. Then I realized i did not have the charming B and B experience that many other people have, nor the picturesque, historic, homey environs that have been described. Without warning I was shuttled off to a worn, nondescript apartment building a few doors down. It had a charming view of the brick facade of the adjacent building. In my bare feet I stood upon sodden carpet in the kitchenette whenever I went for coffee, which was only once, since the creamers curdled in the coffee. My little alcove with desk was useless as there was no WIFI in my room. I explained all of this to a young man who never introduced himself, but whom I assumed worked there since he occasionally emerged from somewhere to maintain breakfast. He volunteered to tell the owner, who is quite absentee, since I never saw or met him. The average breakfast was self-serve and not at all conveniently laid out. One had to go back and forth to the fridgerator for juice, milk, yogurt. Nor was their anyone around to help.

Very disappointing experience! I would have been happier in an Econo Lodge!

This is a charming, comfortable and immaculate inn situated right across the street from a large park in an older, but safe area of Albany. At the suggestion of one of the extremely helpful staff we walked to a Japanese restaurant, Shogun, enjoyed an excellent dinner and strolled back admiring the lovely old row houses and stately homes.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in a spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable suite in the annex. The only negative was the lack of wifi in our room. We especially loved the garden/courtyard at the main house where we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks and breakfast the next morning. Guests are given full access to the kitchen at all times and are provided with a great breakfast selection.
We also enjoyed chatting with the friendly, knowledgeable staff about the history of the neighbourhood, the Albany art scene, and the infamous sculptress and suffragette who once owned the house. We will return to continue the conversation!

Room Tip: Next time we will pay a little more to stay in the main house which has wifi in the rooms and is mor...
