Morgan State House is a fantastic place to stay. So much so that I am planning to return to Albany only in order to stay there again! The staff are very friendly, accomodating, and attentive. The house is beautiful and a relaxing environment is created for its guests. I stayed in one of the studio apartments and couldn't have been happier. It was beautifully decorated with a great view of the park, Rockefeller Center, and the "egg!" A fabulous amenity is the fact that parking is available. And Morgan House is located within walking distance of the capitol and on one of the most beautiful blocks of old brownstone mansions and walk-ups that will take you back in time. An extra delight for any traveler who enjoys architecture.

I was in the 2nd floor park room with the jetted tub and large sitting area with bay windows that is very tastefully decorated and clean. The size of the room was very large. Note - there is no closet for hanging clothes really so that could be challenging for a couple in the area for a wedding type event when you need to hang multiple garments. I was a solo business traveler so the one hanging hook in the bathroom was fine for me. I loved the tub and the bathroom decor.

You can hear noise when someone walks up the stairs and is talking in the hallway, but hey this is a historic house and as long as you expect that then it shouldn't bother you. Very light sleepers may not want to stay in the main house for this reason, but the entire property was full the night I was there and I wasn't bothered by too much noise in the main house. The door to my room itself squeaked a bit.

Breakfast selection was adequate, but no hot dishes like at some B&Bs. However there were more flexible breakfast hours because of the continental style. There is plenty of seating at breakfast with 2 6 person tables and 1 3-4 person table.

The iron didn't work in my room and I couldn't find an ironing board in the room, you probably have to request it.

Location is excellent, especially if you don't have a car because you can walk to restaurants on Lark street, or Central Ave (for cheaper ethnic options).

Please read their policies - late check in you must call ahead to make special arrangements, don't get yourself locked out.

Overall would happily stay here again!

Clean, well equipped and convenient our little studio apartment (as it was more than just a room) was a fun alternative to the standard business hotels which seem so abundant. Although the location was convenient, it could be noisy at times. Parking was a bit away, but available and free. There didn't seem to be any air conditioning ( we traveled in October so it wasn't necessary) there was free wifi in the main house and the lobby of our apartment but not in the unit. The main house, where breakfast is served, is beautiful with a rich history and architecture. It's high rating is well deserved, we just found the bed and noise not in keeping with a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: We didn't stay in the main building - some may find this inconvenient because most of the amenit...

It was really difficult for me to decide what rating to give the Morgan State House as there were many great unique features but with some major downfalls. I stayed in the Washington Park building and was in Albany for business purposes. The location was perfect, the room was gorgeous comfortable and clean, the staff treated you like family.

Why I will not stay again: No internet, as a business traveler this is a must, the website was deceiving as it states WiFi available upon request. We requested at check-in and learned WiFi was only available in the lobby, sat in the lobby and never found an open network. The second reason was the noise. This is an old apartment building in downtown located downtown. Great location for restaurants, shopping and nightlife, awful for noise. The windows and walls were paper thin. Every truck that rumbled by shook the windows, every time a toilet flushed the pipes in the wall shook, the radiator hissed all night, some girl was pacing in the hallway for hours arguing on the phone, the tenant above me had dancing elephant feet at 5am. Needless to say I do not think I slept more than 4 hours combined during my 2 night stay. Finally, this is not a B&B. No hot breakfast, just the same packaged continental garbage that can be found at any Holiday Inn Express.

I found the Morgan State House when trying to find a B&B in the Albany/Hudson area that had availability for a single night's lodging on a Saturday during leaf peeping season, no small task let me tell you! While it was overcast when we arrived in Albany, there was no shortage of sunshine upon entering the Morgan State House. I was greeted enthusiastically by Chuck, the owner, who was very gracious and immediately made me feel welcome. And it only got better from there! He quickly went outside to let my companion know where to park the car and to offer assistance with our luggage. While I was waiting to be checked in by another employee, Chuck and his cousin, who had just arrived from Michigan, actually took all of our luggage up to our 4th floor room which was greatly appreciated as there was no elevator in the main house. While the stairs were certainly somewhat daunting, the trek up to the 4th floor artist suite was worth every step. The room was beautifully decorated and every amenity one could possibly want was provided. Wonderful overstuffed armchairs and an incredibly comfortable bed to sink into after a long day! The huge skylight in the room was an added perk as was the massive soaking tub. Falling asleep to the sound of rain lightly hitting the skylight overhead was pure bliss! While I chose to sleep in rather than go downstairs for the self-serve breakfast the following morning, I did get a chance to sample the pastries and coffee which were delicious. It is obvious that this is a well-loved property and that it has been maintained accordingly. I typically do not opt for an urban inn, but would definitely recommend this establishment and have added it to my favorites list.

Room Tip: Be brave and walk up the stairs to the 4th floor to the artist suite. Top notch room overlooking the...

The wonderful atmosphere of State St. itself is the perfect setting for this classic B&B Townhouse. Located opposite Washington Park, you might well be back in the 19th century if all the parked cars magically disappeared. The raised ground floor features rich wood paneling, chandeliers, and fireplaces, along with a modern kitchen/ dining area in the back. Rooms are beautifully and comfortably furnished. The largest room on the top floor was once Alice Wright's studio, and features skylights, brick walls and two levels. A large tub takes pride of place in a corner overlooking the main space. Very appealing!
Location is great: quite near the State Capitol, and next to Lark St. which has come into its own with many small cafes, restaurants and bars. In some ways, the look and feel of this area remind one of Montreal; and perhaps what life was like in New York City along old 5th and Park Aves back in the Gilded Age.
Great place to stay and very friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: The top two rooms are excellent. In general, rooms with a view on State St. are the most interesting...

Great location, a few blocks from Capitol building. We stayed in the annex, a couple buildings to the west, which had an elevator. Lovely, large room with small den.
Very comfortable bed; soft, soft sheets of top quality - unlike most hotel sheets. Nice view of the city from our window.
Good continental breakfast with many choices. Helpful & gracious staff.
