We love to stay at this TownePlace when we travel over to Albany for some shopping, dining, to see a movie, etc.
It is always clean and well kept, the staff are friendly and polite, the suites are in very good condition, the pool and exercise room are just fine for an overnight stay, the self-serve breakfast nook is always stocked well, the coffee it hot and fresh and well, this is the only hotel we book at in Albany !!
It can be tricky to find if you're not familiar with Albany, but once we got the route down now its zip in and zip out.. over to Crossgates or the Colonie, to Delmonico's for a tasty dinner, to the Albany museum... you get the picture .

Room Tip: We ask for the suite near the pool on the ground floor and are always accommodated. We like easy acc...

This hotel is located near downtown but doesn't feel that way. % min drive to tons of restaurants. They are using the parking lot as a lot for the med center so parking can be tricky. It's OK for a short to medium term stay but as an extended stay it is lacking. No oven in kitchen, irregular housekeeping. Rooms are modern and well furnished although my couch had seen better days.

First impressions mean a lot. And the TownePlace Suites/Albany Med, that's unfortunate.

I made a reservation as part of a group rate for an event directly with the hotel. Because of airline schedules from ALB to the west coast, I needed to stay an extra night to be able to leave early in the morning. The person who made my reservation refused to extend the group rate to that last night. Knowing that, frankly, her refusal was absurd and generally not standard hotel policy, I decided not to argue and opted not to extend the stay that last night. I would address it upon check-in. It was properly resolved then.

I arrived via Amtrak from NYC, and was told to call ahead to have the shuttle meet me. I called as the train was leaving Manhattan and was told the shuttle would be waiting for me at the station. It was not.

I called again from the Albany station (15 minutes after scheduled arrival) and after being placed on hold was told "he is on his way." Me: "Has he left yet?" Her: "Uhhhm... yeah." Me: "You sure he didn't just forget and he's just getting into the van now?" Her: "Uhhm, well, yeah. He forgot."

Van arrives with radio blasting, and remains so until I ask it be lowered or turned off.

No apology or acknowlegement by driver, front desk clerk or manager which is no big deal really. Just stupidly annoying.

That was unfortunate because actually this place is otherwise just fine.

The rooms/suites are huge, the facility is very clean, the breakfast -- while subpar compared to other, similarly situated hotels -- was "eh." Nothing horrible.

Coin operated laundry facilities for guests were similarly clean and helpful to have.

I don't understand other reviewers' concerns with the area. Despite the hotel name, it's not downtown, no, but it's really just fine. An unremarkable lower middle class residential area. And Albany is not a particularly difficult town to get around via automobile.

So in short, this place is an expectedly average, business level extended-stay type of place with large, clean suites and, to give the benefit of the doubt, inexperienced or poorly trained staff.

A safe bet.

We stayed at the TownePlace Suites Albany Downtown/Medical Center for two nights while in town for a family wedding. The stay was average to good. The neighborhood was not the best, and we saw just one restaurant, a McDonalds, within walking distance. Checkin was quick and friendly, and the front desk staff helped with suggestions for nearby restaurants. They had an area map handy, which was helpful. The parking lot was enormous, and there were rarely any open spots near the doors, no matter the time of day. The one-bedroom suite was spacious and nicely furnished. Full kitchenette, too, which would be great for longer stays, esp the large refrigerator. Two large TVs, one in the living area and one in the bedroom. Fre ehigh speed internet that worked well. The suite was extremely clean, as was the entire property. Lots of towels in the bathroom, and oodles of pillows on the bed. And they handled problems well: at midnight we heard a POP when the CFL bulb in the entrance ceiling fixture fell to the floor and shattered. We called the front desk and the staffer on duty (the ONLY one in the hotel...I never understand that, just for security reasons,) came quickly to the room, swept up what she could, and left a report for maintenance for the next morning. Would we stay at this property again? Sure ... it was quite adequate although not outstanding. Perhaps our review is not the most complete since we did not use the pool, fitness center, or breakfast service.

I visit Albany monthly and have stayed at several area hotels. The TownePlace Suites is definitely a good value with nice large rooms and all the amenities a business traveler needs.

Ok. I'll admit it. This past week was my first visit to Albany. I was not impressed. In fact, I hated it and could not wait to get away.

Since it isn't really fair to judge this hotel based on the quality of the whole city, I'll stick to the subject at hand.

Check-in was quick & friendly, the room was clean and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable - everything I've come to expect from the Townplace Suites chain.

The area around the hotel is marginal at best. There's a McDonalds across the street and a Walgreens just up the block. Beyond that, a quick drive around the neighborhood and a few miles down Delaware St. led me to conclude that I'd be better off ordering delivery.

Nothing against the Towneplace Suites, but I hope I never have to return.

Room Tip: If you have business in Albany, look into a VTC or teleconference instead.

I have always found the staff friendly and helpful. I have stayed at this property on four occasions now and never been disappointed. The rooms are well appointed and there are equipped kitchenettes that should accommodate just about any traveler's needs.
I love that the hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub. It can be an almost funny experience to be swimming or soaking while watching a snowstorm swirl outside the large windows.
If I could change anything it would be to have the hot tub a degree or two cooler and the pool a couple degrees warmer.

Room Tip: I have been in both the one bedroom queen and king suites and they were both very nice.
