“Good for the price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013

It's certainly not the Taj Mahal - but the rooms are clean and ok - the only problem is if you get a room on the top floor of the rear wing you have a longgggggg walk and then have to drag your suitcases up the stairs as there is no lift in the older rear wing.

Keep that in mind if you are older and can't carry cases - ask for a room in the main wing - or hope there's someone to help you up the stairs.

Dinner at the restaurant was fine - a good mix of food with Ribs'n'Mac'n'Cheese very tasty. The restaurant manager is fun and a very accommodating guy (poor guy was there late for dinner and early for breakfast the next day but still had a laugh).

Overall a comfortable but not flash place - but certainly fine for a weary traveller.

I was pleasantly surprised. I spend a lot of time living in motels and hotels around the country, and small older facilities usually cause me to call on stores of patience and tolerance. This facility was a pleasant surprise. It’s a little old, in spots a little moldy, and the rooms (judging from the comments of others at the same meeting) vary in quality. Mine was fine. Free shuttle from the airport and train station, benches outside for people who smoke, a large free breakfast in the morning (eggs, potatoes, sausage, French toast, fresh waffles, cereals, juices, pastries, toast and bagels and English muffins) and hekpful staff.

The room was well laid out, and when was the last time you were able to open the window in your room? Fridge and microwave, both a desk and a table, comfortable bed (although the sheets were clean, they were old and fuzzy and need to be replaced). TV was adequate although the lack of an easy menu system is often a problem in hotels. Lunch was generous and tasty and the home-made pumpkin ice cream, a seasonal treat, was extraordinary. The exercise room is adequate but if there is no one else working out, no problem. There is a swimming pool and I never even saw it. Business center is open 24/7 and easy to use.

Overall, especially given the price, a nice place to stay.

Final Note – After the closing banquet (first time I have ever been at a dinner when the Head Table was served last! And the generosity of portions seems limited to lunch – and avoid the dry and blank carrot cake), one of the blind participants fell and injured herself. (The question of liability remains unresolved.) Called an ambulance, and I went with her, to keep track of her guide dog and be of assistance. After the doctors had finished, they called the hotel to see if the shuttle could come and collect us. We were told it was out and it would be an hour before it could get there. (This was at one in the morning.) The hospital asked if a cab could be sent and the hotel staff person said they would split the cost of the cab. Here is a customer who was injured on their property and they won’t spring for a cab!? Turned out to be a $10 cab ride, including tip, although we did not know that at the time. The hospital was as startled as we did, and the hospital nurse arranged for a voucher, which paid for the trip. Not a great closing note for the hotel.

Room Tip: The better view seems to be odd numbered rooms.

This place was a dirty old in need of cleaning and renovating. The toilet was broken in our first room bit the nice women who checked is in was very nice and made sure we got a good room. There are some but overall the place is terrible not a 3 star hotel. The breakfast area was dirty had cobwebs by the Brickface booths. Only thing good at the breakfast was the waffles. Place was horrible.
