Dear Rainford R,
Thank you very much for your 5 star review! The staff was very proud and excited to read your comments. Our staff members really care about their work and they always love it when our guests acknowledge their dedication.
I am sorry that our full hot breakfast did not meet your expectations. We will work on being more creative
On a last minute trip to the Albany area to meet up with friends, this hotel was fine for the inexpensive rate. Rooms were tolerable...I had a good nights sleep. But there were some issues:
- General cleanliness of the hotel was tolerable, but definitely not commendable.
- Like the previous reviewer added, the pool was a hole. Disaster. Leaking/sagging roof, cloudy water, definitely not heated and had no fresh towels. We didn't even go in. This was a major let down considering we were traveling with kids.
-We ate dinner (because everywhere else had an obscene wait on a Saturday night) at the on premises restaurant--which the front desk had told us was southwestern style. Lol, it was predominately South American--which is obviously quite different. Menu included tripe, sweet breads and cow tongue--which is awesome! But hardly what we expected. Food was edible--mediocre at best. And service was slow--but super friendly.
Front desk help all had a great disposition. Great Albany location. Overall, if I was in town--child free and looking for someone clean enough for $70/night. I'd def stay again. But if you're not adventurous or traveling with kids--it's a no.
We chose this hotel because we were visiting grandchildren (3 & 5) and wanted a heated indoor pool to play with the kids since there was so much snow outside!! We picked the BW Sovereign based on reviews of the rooms as clean with good beds, and that is true. The hotel is mostly clean and in good shape. The room was small, just enough room to walk around the king bed, the closet is a free standing wardrobe unit, taking up room space, and the fridge/TV area is also large! The bath is small, but clean and functional. The breakfast is very high carb, the fresh fruit ran out and was not restocked, the bread and pastries were all white bread, not very healthy food. The oatmeal was good, but the only condiment they had was brown sugar. They err on providing quantity over quality and I'd rather pay for a decent breakfast.
The pool area was frightening! The retractable roof was leaking everywhere, and the wooden roof adjacent to the glass roof was waterlogged, gaping, and seriously looked about to fall in!! The pool itself was clean and very warm - the dilapidated ceiling was not over the pool itself, so we felt safe enough staying in the water, but sitting in the pool area was not an option - water dripping from the ceiling everywhere and standing, murky water all over the floor. We had hoped to have a picnic dinner with our grandchildren in the pool area, but that was just not possible. We couldn't understand how the management could allow this situation to continue.
I enjoy staying at this hotel every year for the HMRRC marathon at SUNY Albany. They have recently renovated their rooms. Free parking, wifi, large chocolate chip cookie and a complimentary bottle of water upon arrival, a hot breakfast is included, great indoor pool, and friendly staff. It is a real value and pleasure to stay here again in 2014. I will be back again in 2015.
No frills. Basic hotel. Great value. A clean and comfortable stay. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Stayed here one night while traveling upstate NY. Would definitely stay here again in the future. If you're looking for basic clean accommodations with no frills, this place is a sure bet. Breakfast is included- again no frills but great for a free breakfast. Great value. Good job to the staff at this Best Western!
Trapped in Albany due to snow I checked in to avoid highway travel. Clean, friendly. Worked out, microwaved my dinner in the room, enjoyed a bottle of wine I brought with me. Clean and comfortable. For under 80 bucks a great find. Looking forward to the complimentary breakfast and coffe in the AM.
