“VERY isolated”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

Hotel rooms are comfortable - the bathrooms are well equipped.

There is only one restaurant on the hotel - it's OK, but nothing special. Breakfast was really quite grim.

The hotel setting is very nice with a gold course surrounding it - but beware that this hotel is extremely isolated. There is absolutely nothing that you could walk to and a car is essential.

We ate out of the hotel on the second night and it was a 20 min drive (passing not much in the process).

Staff have very poor English.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Hotel was very nice and clean. Employees spoke English so that was very helpful. Breakfast was very good! However, restaurant prices on the resort very over priced! $25 for a small thin crust pizza..,$6 for a cup of coffee! Hotel location is the downfall! It's about a 45 minute drive from the airport and is in the middle of nowhere. There is a beach about 5-10 minute drive away other than that, you'll need a taxi. The island is very spread out so a taxi or rental car is a must. Oh, and loved the gym. There is no outdoor pool and you have to pay to use the indoor aqua pool. Overall, great stay but the location sucked. Will stay closer to airport and city next time. There's more to do over that way without a car or taxi. Gave it 3 stars because of location.

Room Tip: Great hotel..very clean and nice staff. Terrible location!

Jeju Island’s economy is based on the tourist industry and as such has more than its share of cheesy resorts. Raon is not one of those! It’s located towards the western shore of the island, about 40 minutes from the airport.
We stayed in the serviced apartment section of the resort. It is brand- new and many buildings are just being completed. Although we were only there for two nights, the apartments are fitted out such that you could stay for several weeks or even months. In Korea, you take off your shoes and leave them at the entrance --pleasant surprise for the feet, there is under- floor heating, just marvelous. Our apartment (the so-called “B” unit, they need a marketer) featured two en suite bedrooms, a guest bathroom, large, open- plan living area /eating area / kitchen and a very large balcony with additional outdoor dining table and chairs, overlooking the golf course and a view to the sea off a ways. (Sorry, golfers, I do not golf, so I cannot rate the course.) But it was fun watching the golfers batting away at the balls stuck in the bunker just below us whilst we sipped G&Ts.
TVs in each bedroom plus the living area, but no WiFi just yet, only a cable. (Hint: always take an Apple Airmac or similar product with you (works on PC too) and it turns the internet cable signal into your own secured WLAN, so multiple users can access at the same time.)
The bedrooms are nicely fitted out, great linens, Aloe Vera amenity kits in the bathrooms, bidet toilets. For the Greens out there, the toilets functioned effectively with 1 litre flush, impressive. Water temp varied during the shower but no problem really. The master suite accesses the balcony and has a huge walk- in shower / bath area and twin sinks. The other bedroom’s bathroom is considerably smaller but still worked well and was perfectly adequate. You can see their floorplans online (mostly in Korean but randomly clicking around eventually gets you there…)
The kitchen has a huge double fridge and double freezer. We couldn’t imagine cramming enough hungry people into the apartment to support filling the fridge. A hoarder’s delight I suppose. Anyway your groceries could get lost there. There is a dishwasher, rice cooker, cooktop, toaster, microwave / convection oven, clothes washer / dryer combo, coffee maker and so on. All the instructions for all the above, the air con, the TV remote are in Korean only, but the staff are very happy to help.
We took the breakfast plan. It is the standard Korean breakfast, nicely done, good selection. The island grows mandarin oranges, so the juice was mandarin juice, very tasty. The pastry chef did an amazing job on pastry, good enough to call Paris home and worth breaking the diet for. The boiled eggs were WAY overcooked, the yolks having turned into hard, crumbly grey- green objects. No back bacon but with the local bacon I was able to fake a bacon buttie. We also tried the Karaoke Bar, good sound system and very important to our group of 20, a good selection of songs in English.
To sum up: great place, and will look nowhere else next trip to Jeju.

Room Tip: Pick a high floor with a view to the ocean - the staff will advise you which ones fit this billing.
