“Rude staff”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

After using the hot springs in the hotel, I asked reception how to get somewhere. They rudely asked me what is your room number and when I said I wasn't staying there, I just used the hot spring in their hotel which was quite obvious from my wet hair, they wouldn't help me. Even when I told them the reason I am asking them is because they speak English, they refused to help me. This is supposedly a four star hotel. In most hotels even if you are not staying there and need help getting somewhere, they will help you as it is only common courtesy to help travelers find a place. I was impressed by the hot springs and had thought about staying here some time but after my interaction with reception I will chose some place else in Daejeon. At that time when I asked they were not even busy; there were no other guests there so there was no excuse not to help me.

Stayed here for two nights for a business stay. Room was bit disappointing, old worn down furniture and smelled badly of tobacco smoke. Hotel supposedly has a good spa and location is good for visiting Kaist. Also, staff were friendly with good English. However, room itself was not so great, it might have been great 30 years ago, but this not any more.
For the quality of room you can find better or equal value in one of the many near-by lovehotels for one quarter of the price of Yuseong hotel.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have non-smoking room, but please try to ask for it

fourth time here this year. It 's better than other reviewers seem to say, in my experience.
As in all Daejeon hotels you pay for your toiletries; the hotel staff speak above standard English. The breakfast is a buffet, better than the next-door Riviera by far. The restaurants have all been good.
Rooms are good sized but there are no non-smokers.
A few of the rooms in the front of the hotel are less good, but are cheaper. However the fact the hotel is normally full speaks volumes.
The top floor bar is good- bizarrely has Belgian Leffe beer!
Probably best value hotel in Yuseong- bear in mind it's several miles from Daejeon centre, but now there's a metro from Daejeon and Seodaejeon KTX stations whic goes past the Gov't Complex in Dunsan dong/

This hotel definitely did not meet my expectations. The lobby is very nice but the staff barely spoke English. My room was extremely small and very old looking. Bathroom was stained and you had to pay for every toiletry!!! Internet was free in the room. There was a desktop in the room or you can connect your laptop to a DSL cable. The Internet is quite slow though. Breakfast was pretty good and included i the rate. Yousung is not located centrally but there are plenty of things to do around. The spa is nice but you need to understand what a Korean spa is. It is not your usual spa exeprience. It is more of a bath house than a spa.

Was at the hotel for 3 nights. The hotel room has two beds: a double and a single bed. The bathroom is small and the paint on the walls were peeling off. Everything in the room is chargeable so be careful what you take..even the shampoo, toothbrush etc. are all chargeable. the excuse is to protect the environment thus the hotel management can't really provide these items free of charge. TV was small probably 21 inches, the internet was good though very fast.
The level of English at the front desk was ok. The bellboy was very helpful and didn't even want to take any tips..i think its the Korean hospitality.

The room charge was also too expensive USD120 per night ! The excuse is its a 5 star hotel..

After i left Daejeon, i went to Seoul and discovered the price of a 3 star hotel was not that expensive but the toiletries were all free of charge! We even had a wide screen TV in Seoul. Conclusion: never go to this hotel in Daejeon.

After seeing the website and reading some reviews, I expected a lot of this hotel. The entrance and the hallways are shiny and nice, but the room was a bit disappointing. First of all, the room stank of smoke and I was told that there are no separate no-smoking rooms which may be typical of the area. However, I left the window open for a day and now the room smells fine although the bed linen has retained the smoke smell.

The room comes with a large, flat screen TV, a computer and a desk and table. The bed is one of the most comfortable that I have slept in in a hotel. The bathroom is a bit murky, but clean.

As with other reviewers, I found that the concept of making guests pay for toiletries “to save the environment” is laughable. A small ironing board and iron were available upon request. The hotel appears not to have a safe and if you give them a bag to keep, they keep it sitting behind the front desk. The restaurant on the ground floor offers breakfast for 17,000 which is really expensive. The spread is large, but not worth that much money. The area around the hotel includes a number of convenience stores and restaurants.

The staff all speak good English and have been very pleasant. The other hotels in the area don’t look much better than the Yousung. I give the hotel 3 stars because despite the flaws, it is a good place to stay and after my initial disappointment, I have been happy with it.

The location of the hotel is N36 21.360 E127 20.367 if you use your GPS.

Writing this while in hotel; previous reviews seem to be at least 1+ years old now...

First impression was reasonable; shiny entrance area, plenty of marble, etc. However, just a single (small) elevator to the rooms, which takes ages to arrive.

The floors for the rooms are very dark and dated. Enter the room and this continues - couldn't believe how dark the room was, even with every light on. Feels like a step back to the 1980s. Room itself is quite small for a double. On positive side, it is clean, and quiet. Unfortunately, aircon cannot go below 20, and even at 20, it cannot do it's job. Always felt that couple of degrees above my (European) comfort level.

Warning - to 'save the environment' they don't provide shampoo, etc, though shampoo can be purchased from an amenity tray (how does that save the environment then?).

Free internet is good / useful, though I feel this is now the 'standard' and hotels that charge for access are trying it on.

Good TV, large flat screen, with fair selections of channels, inc. CNN.

Bar on 10th floor is okay (again - dated and dark), but pleasant enough. Will go out next time, as it did lack atmosphere.

Having walked around the area, the only hotel that seems more modern is the Riviera across the road. There do seem to be a few new hotels being built - maybe they will be better, though unlikely to open till mid-2009 at earliest.

All in all, an okay hotel but consider it 3* at best, and don't expect a great fresh room.

  • Liked — reasonably quiet room, free internet, large tv
  • Disliked — dated dark rooms, weak aircon, charging for bathroom amenities
