“Serene picturesque getaway for couples”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

My girlfriend I spend a night there in November as the leaves were turning. It was really magical.

As the other reviewers mention, the room are well decorated and the managing couple is doing an unbelievable job. They really go out of their way to give each guest a WOW experience.

Three thumbs up, especially for people who want to relax and spend time with that special someone.

Beautiful countryside setting. Serene and quiet environment. We stayed here for 2 nights on 19th and 20th Sep 2013. The 9 of us stayed in 3 rooms: double, triple and family rooms. The couple in the double room was so happy with the room that they kept taking `honeymoon' photos on bed. The triple was so happy that they kept taking photograph of every item in their room. I personally like the beautiful classical European design style of the room and the `branded' items. I was worried that I may accidentally broke them and had to pay for it.

We have to keep our doors closed tight as warned by the manager as insects from the nature may fly into our room. We have some hard time trying to get rid of a bee that we saw at the ceiling. The manager was very friendly and he told us that the water from the tap is drinkable as they were natural spring water from deep in the ground.

The set back for the family room is that there is only one master bed for 2; the other 2 of us have to sleep on floor mat. Anyway, it is still very comfortable and not cold. When we first check in on the very first night, our driver drove through narrow lanes and poorly litted meandering road and we only saw darkness but the next day morning, when I went out of the pension house for a stroll, the vicinity was a great nature area to explore. The air was fresh and the farms, the lovely mountain and grasslands were so beautiful and you are really `far from the madding crowd' with only the birds chirping and some dogs barking.

The pension house's manager was very friendly and he came out to greet us even though we check in at about 9 pm and on the third day at early morning when we check out, he also came out and said good bye to us. He hugged us and took a friendly photo with our members. On the very second day morning, we washed and hang our laundry early in the morning before we set foot to explore Gyeongjiu and we were surprised that the manager and his staff helped us to keep and fold them when we returned. This pension house is not far from the main attraction in Gyeongjiu. We like this place and will be very happy to introduce it to others.

Moon is the guesthouse manager and he's the kindest I've ever met. Here are the reasons:

1. Korea runs on a different mobile provider system so i didn't have network access at all. Genuinely concerned for our safety (we are 2 girls), Moon lent me a mobile phone so that i could contact him for pickup from nearby Chuwon village bus stop.
2. Even with his limited English, he tried very very hard to communicate with me and give advice on directions and attractions.
3. I needed to clear my memory card and tried my luck to see if he has a card reader. He didn't have one on hand but went to great trouble to find one and lent it to me the next day. I really appreciated that because he didn't have to! He could have said he didn't have one and left it at that.

Fresh mountain air, idyllic countryside houses and awesome hosts - what's there not to like? Great for morning walks around the area and intimate chats with hosts who really appreciate countryside life and carpentry. Perfect escape from the city.

wonderful, beautiful setting, so clean and nice rooms, great price, such helpful staff, even a small kitchenette in your room and they do a bbq at night time, a gem!

I would say if you're driving just keep following the sat nav! its a small road and you may feel a bit dubious about where youre headed

you can head to a temple about 4 hr round trip from where your staying, but for other adventures out you'll need to get a taxi, but the staff will help you with that,

There is a mini shop on site but if you're planning to cook your own dinners take some food bits with you before hand,

wish I could go back!

We were there in May 2013, travelling from Donghae to Gyeongju. The 6 of us occupied 3 rooms in the pension for 2 nights. It was a long drive in to the pension in a quiet idyllic area but all of us loved the place once we saw it. The owner, Mr Joen, greeted us upon arrival and was most hospitable during our stay there. Would love to go back again!

If you are searching for a welcoming, cozy place to call home for a few nights I would highly recommend the JY Pension. It is situated perfectly between downtown Gyeongju and the ocean, both being a mere 20 minute drive from the quaint B&B nestled in the forest. Jae, the President of the facility who lives onsite, greeted us with open arms and a bright smile; even though we arrived around 9pm with a cantankerous toddler (a 2 year old). Our rooms were immaculately cleaned and themed perfectly pertaining to the color. Also offered onsite is a small minimart, cafe and hangout area with grills to cohort with fellow travelers/guests. The staff is willing to go out of their way to make your stay perfect. After our arrival we realized we didn't have any milk for our grumpy toddler and they sent out for some so that there would be some for us in the morning.

Also, the reasoning that I only give 4 out of 5 points for Sleep Quality is that the beds were slightly too firm for myself, but I still slept soundly each night of our stay (3 nights).

Room Tip: Highly recommend getting a room with a balcony and dining area, so you can enjoy breakfast/lunch/din...

We arrived late in the evening, and were half expecting to see Jeon (the owner) but there he was, waiting at the bus stop (a pre-arranged rendezvous) to take us to his pension! With the approaching winter months, it was already dark and cold.

The room has a green theme, and the décor was warm and cheerful. There is underfloor heating, and as well as reverse cycle heating provided by the air-conditioning. No fear of catching cold here!! We were asked if we would like to have dinner (very late) but we declined. Instead we opted for packets of Korean noodles which we cooked in the kitchenette, and suitably kept our hunger at a distance. As it was already late, dark and wintery, we decided to stay indoors for the night.

The morning, with the bright sunshine, revealed a sight that was so unexpected that we gasped in amazement. The landscape was filled with beautiful trees, in their various Wintery shades. As we were the only visitors (the others came only for the weekends), it was serenely quiet and beautiful. There was not a single person in sight, as we took a walk around the pretty neighborhood.

The pension has a beautiful Swiss-looking cottage which housed a restaurant. It also doubled up as a breakfast hall in the morning. BBQ also on offer as a dinner option, and is catered in a little shed for obvious reasons (the smoke and fire).

Our stay would not have been that enjoyable, had it not been for the warmth and friendliness of our hosts Jeon and the other co-owner (forgot his name). Although the location of JY Pension is quite remote, but the end result is well worth it. By the way, (for the single ladies only) I think Jeon is looking for a wife.

Room Tip: Please take JY Pension phone number with you wherever you go because, it is your 'best friend...
