The hosts were very attentive and super helpful. They went out of their ways to help our travel sorted.

Mr Lee took us to see many interesting places from 6 - 8 AM Sat and Sun (!), a tour which he normally offer to all his guests.

I planned just one night in Gyeongju but almost wished I could stay longer b/c Mr. Gun Hee Lee and his wife were so kind.

Of all the Korean hotels I booked that I emailed to ask for hotel directions, Mr. Lee was the only one to respond. It was actually quite simple. If you're taking the KTX into Singyeongju Station, pick up the #50 bus by taking an immediate right when you exit the station. The bus drivers are extremely surly, but they will understand when you say "YMCA stop." The hotel is right behind a S Oil, and is well marked.

When we arrived, there was no one home, but there was a phone on the patio table for us to call Mr. Lee. He arrived within 5 min, and let us into our room, which was a regular double. He was extremely well prepared with city maps, itineraries, and public transportation info on how to get to the sites. After he got us all sorted, he told us that since the next day was the weekend, he will be giving us a private tour of the surrounding area. This was great, b/c we really only had one night in Gyeongju, and without a car, it would've been difficult to see anything other than the main tourist sites. After the wonderful early morning tour, we returned to his house, where his wife had prepared a nice breakfast of home cooked pork mandoo soup with a few banchans. It is always wonderful to have the opportunity to try home cooked food by a local when traveling.

I've been to so many hotels that are not prepared for travelers, but Mr. Lee had everything set out for us. He treated us so well and was always ready to go the extra step. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The reason that it is not a 5 star is b/c the location is a little removed from the city center. But it's not a bad location at all...ask Mr. Lee for restaurant recommendations. Near city hall is Paris Baguette and also a Kyochon. And of course, many local restaurants.

The location is not near from bus station and we need to take taxi to Tavo house. Despite of the location, we found the house is very lovely.. The room is very clean.
The owner had been very helpful and I have to give him two thumbs up for his service. He had brought us with his car around the city and to some nice places, temple, statue at 5.30 AM early in the morning before he left for work while his wife prepared us delicious Korean breakfast.
This guesthouse is home for travelers. VERY RECOMMENDED!

I stayed here for 3 nights in Feb 2013 with my boyfriend. The host, Gun Hee and his family, were extremely nice and friendly to us. Plus, Grandma was very cute and offered us little yoghurt drinks she had just bought from outside. Breakfast was different everyday, and showed us traditional Korean breakfasts. They were tasty too :)

The house itself is not located too near to town. It's about a 15 minute walk to the main street (and train station), and longer if you want to get to the sights. There are however, free bicycles you can borrow from the house to cycle about if you want. My boyfriend and I did it for a day, and it was great fun.

The only drawback was that the shared bathroom didn't have a steady supply of hot water. But other than that everything was great. They have a high-tech toilet commode, which keeps the seat warm and is excellent in winter, heh.

On our last night, Gun Hee drove my boyfriend and I around Bomun Lake, and brought us for a short walk to see nearby sights. That, was great.

I'd definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our trip to Gyeongju in February 2012. While the weather was bitter cold, our stay at Tavo House was full of warm surroundings and friendly company.

Kanye showed us around the city, took us to a traditional Korean "pub" and helped us learn our first words and phrases in Korean. We had traditional dinner with Kanye and his family one night and then went out for Korean BBQ the next night and had a wonderful time with his family, friends of the family, and the other random people we were able to encounter in town.

If you're looking for a homestay experience in Gyeongju, I heartily recommend staying at Tavo House. The price is reasonable and it's a wonderful way to experience what modern Korean life is like even if you lack the language/cultural abilities that are usually required to have those experiences.

I have a little mixed experience with this place. From one point of view, Gun Hee family was extremely friendly, they helped with local places and many suggestions, we were served a fairly eloborate traditional breakfast which the landlady cooked for at least a couple of hours, etc. This was all really great. However, I was misled by the booking.com reviews which seemed to suggest much higher level of comfort and discretion, with some of reviewers boasting 'that it is comparable to 5 star hotels'. Having stayed at b&b which indeed deserve these grades (but probably at ten times this price, I have to admit), My expectations were really high. What I failed to understand that this a home stay, not a typical b&b. So you share a modest bathroom with a bunch of ther customers and owners, have to cross the dining room to get there, with all other smalll things: inconvenient beds, not very professional cleanliness, etc. So, understand me correctly, you get all the benefits of a homestay but also its drawback. Maybe I am getting older for this, but in this case drawback overweight the benefits. You may well like it a lot, but you should get that this basically sharing an apartment with some people you do not, though very friendly people.

The location of the guesthouse is in the city area of Gyeongju. Very convenient with a convenience store nearby and access to buses and other transport. We cycled around the city and saw the Gyeongju attractions as well. Kanye is a great host and ever willing to help - provide information, help you order pizza in korean and lend you his bicycles.

It was great staying here and enjoying true korean hospitality..and even better to have made new friends :)
