“Memorable Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

I spent 2 nights at this guesthouse. I was travelling alone. Rented a car with GPS from the airport and had no problem finding the place. Parking was available right in front of the guesthouse. Set in a picturesque fishing village, the rooms have a wall of glass overlooking the ocean, the steep white cliffs topped with pine trees and the rolling farm lands surrounding the property. The room was very clean and tidy. The best part of my experience was enjoying the camaraderie and warmth of the hosts, Sue and Doldam as well as the guests in the evening in their funky and artistic patio kitchen. The food was simple and delicious too. There were Koreans, Americans, Europeans and at some point we all became one big happy family. We were lucky that among the guests were some musicians from Seoul who were chilling with friends playing great music, both Korean ballads and loads of Beatles. Sue and Doldam were also very responsive on email and helpful with ideas of how best to spend your time in Jeju. It was really a memorable stay!

I stayed in October 2013.

Everything is good. facility is clean, view is excellent,

Especially black polk BBQ is amazing.

If you visit Jeju island, you must stay in Doldam.

Owner Mr. Kwon and his wife have good English speaking skill.

We stayed here for two nights and found it easily following Sues directions! The bus stop is about 5 mins walk away! View us amazing over the harbour and beautiful ocean with mountainous backdrop - very relaxing ace to chill! It's a small village with a store and a pizza place - the residence serves very good black pork BBQ as well! It's right on the trail if you fancy a hike and convenient bus route to get around! Sue and her husband were very helpful assisting us with flights, taxi rides and our itinerary generally! Breakfast is modest and lovely with cereal toast ham cheese salad and coffee - more than adequate!! A good base whi h we enjoyed! Our room had a DIY me and a set of bunks and a great view!! Enjoy

We stayed the first night on the east side of Jeju becasue we want to see the sunrise in Seongsan. We stayed here for two nights because it is close to a lot of attractions: Seogwipo, Jungmun, Sanbangsan etc.

The Owner Mr. Doldam, his wife Sue Yeon(Sue for short) and the Chef are nice people. The Family room is full but Sue offered us one the dorm rooms(three bunk beds) to ourselves. Two sheets, pillow case and a medium size towel were sitting on our beds when we arrived at the room. The pillow cases are a bit small for the pillows. The towel is medium size, you have to bring your bath towel if that is what you prefer. You have to use one of the sheets as a blanket...... it is alright as the weather is very hot. There are two shower stalls. It could be a bit cleaner as there are molds on the shower curtain and some of the tiles, and the metal frame with rust spots developing......

Salad, ham, cheese, toast, cereals, yogurt, milk, coffee are on offer for breakfast, and the homemade orange jam is good...... english breakfast tea was not common in Korea but Doldam was kind enough to offer two tea bags when we asked so we could make our own. He also offered boiled eggs at our request, instead of ham, on the second day. We had two BBQ dinner of Samgyeopsal here...... and we chatted along with our hosts...... the sauce of the cold noodle is hostmade, too......

The location is further downhill from 1132, so it is more convenient if you are driving.

Recommended.

Coming from Singapore where we live in a concrete jungle, Doldam Guesthouse was truly a great experience for us jaded urbanites. Every morning, we would head to the modest but cosy glass-walled cafe for breakfast, where Doldam has prepared a small selection of items such as toast, ham, cheese, milk and coffee and more. My favourite items would be the salad and the homemade tangerine jam which are really delicious. Take note that the variety is rather limited, but I don't have major complaints. From the cafe, you can overlook the farms and plantations, which are a great visual treat to relax your mind.

Doldam Guesthouse is located about a 10-15 minute walk away from the bus stop. When we visited, it was early spring, and the temperature was around 10 degrees at night, and we would shiver in the cold walking back home from the bus stop. So you could say there's a small minus point there.

However, from the bus stop, there is a bus to Jungmon Tourist Complex where you would find the popular Teddy Bear Museum among others. We also walked to the beautiful Jungmon beach from the complex. Not to worry, every morning, we would ask Doldam (owner of the guesthouse) for directions, and he would very kindly help us to plan our journey.

Even though the location of the guesthouse is a little far-off (it is located at the far-end of a quiet village), we honestly had no regrets. My partner and I both felt that the seclusion of the place added to the charm of the area, and that it was worth it.

Doldam and Sue were wonderful hosts. We have very lovely memories of Jeju and the guesthouse, and are genuinely thankful for their hospitality.

Stay here if you want to skip the flashy hotels, and live right in a village, where it is quiet and absolutely peaceful, and don't mind a little inconvenience in travelling.

P/s: Pretty sure travelling won't be an issue if you hire a taxi driver / rent your own car, which is pretty common in Jeju. For us, we took mainly public transport.

I stayed for 4 nights in May 2013 and you will not find a friendlier, more magical place to stay! Sue and Doldam were incredibly friendly and conscientious hosts - nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and really good value. The room was beautiful - huge, very clean, heated floors(!), comfortable beds, hot and cold water dispenser (great touch!), and best of all an enormous floor to ceiling window from which you can see (and hear) the ocean and the sleepy village port at the foot of the hill below. A magnificent vista and a wonderfully relaxing stay. I left feeling inspired - thanks Sue & Doldam - i'll be back so save some of the good makkoli for me ;)
