The three of us were travelling, off season, and staying in a wonderful place in Bentota. "Let's look for somewhere different for dinner," we said. So, after much google research, we decided to go to The Waterside. A tuk-tuk ride was organised, and suddenly, we were there. The staff were not flustered at all, and, after a short period of time, a wonderful Sri Lankan meal was set before us. Quite extraordinary, considering it was "off season." We spoke to the excellent staff, who advised that we could go on a boat trip on the morrow (I had done this the previous year with my excellent friend, and really wanted my wife to experience the same.) It was organised. The next day, even though the lovely guide hosting the boat trip was on a day off, we had a boat and guide - just for the hour or so we had asked. Fantastic. Then back to The Waterside for lunch - one of the best club sandwiches we had in our month in Sri Lanka...and had the whole place to ourselves. The staff ensured we enjoyed the amenities. Fresh towels were laid out by the pool (and yes, we indulged) and the table was set for our return. Again, I would like to express we visited "off season," and yet the chef, kitchen and dining room staff worked so hard to ensure we had a pleasurable time. A bonus was the fact of knowing The Waterside was set up after the tsunami, by a lady the staff members speak of so lovingly. Go here - it is wonderful, and the service is excellent. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
