“Ultimate boutique hotel”

This was the last hotel on our holiday in Sri Lanka..We have travelled before and very often we have been disappointed in the last hotel..But this time we were very pleased. The hotel was the best of all..The grounds were well planned and the feeling in the whole hotel was peaceful and tranquil. The swimming pools enjoyed. The food exceptional. With a good selection of dishes. The rooms nicely furnished.and the staff efficient and friendly. In fact when we asked for avocado (which were out of season). They went out of their way and got some for dinner next evening.
Only a moment away is a wonderful beach, long and sandy,The sea looked a little rough, but it was refreshing and we enjoyed the warmth of the water..We had no trouble with hawkers...We soon got used to the train running at the bottom of the garden ,through a gate, and after the first day ,we became used to the noise and didn,t even hear it..
The only fault , (nit picking) was that our bathroom needed a small amount of upgrading to keep up to the standard of the rest of our room.
We would definately return to this hotel and recommend it.
The nearest town is a 5 minute tuk tuk ride away.

Our stay here, after a hectic two weeks travelling around Sri Lanka was the best thing ever. The most stunning, visually, comfortable, hotel with the best service you could ask for .From the moment we were received by one of the front of house staff, Roshan who complemented the hotel and was impeccable with explaining the surroundings and like he made our stay the most memorable. the food was exquisite a choice for every taste bud. We will for sure be returning although we do not usually go to the same place twice.

Room Tip: room 6 lovely garden room that opens out on to the grounds with a small swimming pool just outside y...

We spent four heavenly days at this hotel, and absolutely loved it. Everywhere you look there is beauty; the building itself, which is wonderfully integrated with the garden, plus spectacularly good art and sculptures scattered throughout the house and garden; three days after we arrived we were still finding new delights that we hadn't noticed before.
The bedroom was lovely, spacious and well designed, with a generous sized balcony overlooking the garden. We found the trains a great entertainment, with everyone hanging out of the open doors to get a bit of air (no health and safety nonsense - hurray!). Chilling out is easy here with a nice pool and fabulous (beach boy free) beach.
The service, headed by Roshan, is brilliant; friendly and attentive with great attention to detail. We never had to give our room number - the staff already knew who we were (how great is that?) and it was such a nice touch to supply cold water by the pool - much appreciated.
The food was excellent, but like some of your other reviewers I would love to see a few more Sri Lankan options.
We ended our stay refreshed and restored, and vowing that we would return, as soon as possible.

I spent 3 days here in mid-February and it was absolutely perfect.

The archiectural design is brilliant - keeping a number of naturally cool areas in the scorching sun, lots of lounge type areas to retreat to if the sun is too hot, but ample loungers /hammocks around the pool /gardens if you want the sun. There are 2 pools, including a proper swimming pool (long and thin, as opposed to the common square shape, which hotels often seem to favour that are actually no good for swimming!) and a shorter, more shallow pool if you want to sit and read in it quietly.

The staff are all friendly and a huge amount of time is spent looking after each guest personally e.g. If you're sitting by the pool, you're immediately brought a towel and cold water is served on an hourly basis and a small snack in the afternoon free of charge. There is a good menu if you want to order something more substantial. It felt like everything was brought to you before you even realised you may want it. I've never felt so pampered and looked after - it was everything needed to completely relax and unwind from the rat race!

The rooms were goregous, with lovely toiletries.

Constructive points: Restaurant food was of excellent standard, but the menu is very westernised - it would be good to see more local food on there (it currently just contains 'Sri Lankan curry', although this is very good!). It was also more expensive than you would pay locally
Room 6 was a little noisy in the evening as it's above the bar. This however is avoidable if you ask for a different room (not 7 as this is next door and presumably will have the same problem).

Also be aware that it's next to the train line, which has a train about every hour, which could bother some guests, however I found this to be a charming feature.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel and if it wasn't a 15 hour flight from home, I would definitely use it as a bolt hole! I don't tend to revisit many places, but if I did I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms 6 and 7 are above the bar and therefore can be noisy. If you want an early night, ask for a di...

We stayed in 5 hotels in Sri Lanka over two weeks, and this one was by far the best and exceeded our expectations. The property is beautiful, and we enjoyed excellent service from the staff (complimentary water by the pool was definitely appreciated) and the food was excellent. The restaurant serves a selection of food from local delicacies to western food, and there is a bar where you can enjoy a nice cocktail as the sunsets.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

A truly stunning hotel with wonderful service.
A beautiful garden and pool and lots of comfortable and stylish places around the hotel to relax.
The train through the bottom of the garden is no issue, it's even rather fun.
Only 1 comment really - the beach is truly spectacular so it would be nice to have had some sun beds and umbrellas out on the beach.

We've been fortunate to stay in some very special hotels around the world. Paradise Road, The Villa, tops them all for the overall experience. Beautiful boutique hotel, fantastic architecture, brilliant interior design. Wonderful, highly trained, attentive but unobtrusive staff, who just can't do enough for you. They truly understand that 'guest comfort and experience' is paramount.
The hotel is in a wonderful location - the railway line didn't bother us at all. The food was superb and the chef even showed us how he makes curry and the trimmings. We were there for 5 nights following a wonderful two week Exodus tour, but could happily have stayed for much longer. We shall return and try out Tintagel also.

Room Tip: We were in a standard room, Room 4, on the ground floor. Lovely outside sitting area and our bathroo...
