Can safely say that as a seafood lover - Malli's served me the best lobster I have had. Ever.
None of this rubbery comes-out-as-one-lump tail for me, but a lovely fresh flakey half kilo of locally caught lobster.
We were served coconut bread with fresh, sliced tomatoes and minced, grilled garlic as an amuse bouche and shared a splendid salad and cuttlefish for starter. Our mains were the fantastic lobster and river prawns the size of a large banana with a dessert of mint ice cream, fruit and nuts.
Inside the restaurant is decor much more classy than you see in the rest of Bentota, whilst you don't come here expecting this level of venue; you are pleasantly surprised and happy when you find it.
Speaking to Malli himself, he told us that he used to work as a painter & decorator in Derby before realising his calling was to come back and open a restaurant. He took the time to come to our table an tell us about the place and show us the two massive plates featuring "catch of the day" for us to choose from. When we thought the fairytale couldn't get any more complete he revealed that he rows out to sea in his catamaran at 6am every morning to catch the fish and lobster himself!! I have to say also, he spoke with the confidence of a man telling the truth so hats off!
Would give Malli's a recommendation of the highest order.
