“An Idyllic coastal stay in a beautiful country”

Just right for a romantic getaway, often used for weddings and honeymoons. Not us though, we stayed for 5 nights as part of a tour of the indian ocean countries. This was a delightful place, with comfortable villas and plunge pool. Easy access to the sea.

Good food and lovely staff. It is some way away from the large towns and usual tourist spots - that's why we chose it!

My wife and I had the most relaxing stay at Saman Villas. We just wanted some time to chill out and this was the most perfect spot. Beautiful rooms (we had a basic one) overlooking to sea, service was excellent and the villas are based with long beaches either side so perfect for long beach walks.

Room Tip: even the basic room was excellent. the rooms below with pools were overlooked by us (more expensive...

It's an ideal place if you want to appreciate mother nature's beauty, it has a massive lush enclosed garden and the room we got has its very own swimming pool overlooking the vast Indian ocean.

You wake up to the sound of sea waves. Breakfast is just superb. Chef Philip was an extraordinary addition to the Saman Villas experience as he had provided us personalized service apropos to letting us taste authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.

Room Tip: Deluxe Suite with a swimming pool is the best room that provides the best value.

Location, location, location! This resort has the most spectacular setting imaginable: High on a rock above the ocean, with two endless, beautiful tropical beaches that stretch on both sides as far as the eye can see. However, what makes this resort really special is the amazing attention to detail and all the extras offered that I have rarely experienced in other luxury hotels, even more expensive ones: Welcome champagne bottle, PLUS a complimentary 90 minute full body massage at the spa (that costs around 100 US dollars if you pay for it) PLUS a complimentary foot massage. These are not extras that are normally offered at most top hotels and the massage was extremely professional. You can sense that there is a respect for the customer in everything: The quality of the food is truly excellent with a wide choice of Asian and International dishes. The fresh tuna, the prawns, the shrimps with creamy asparagus sauce, the Thai beef salad, even the Italian Arabiata pasta were all to die for. The rooms -we had the superior suite No 10 -are sensational. A big balcony with a table, sofa and wide ocean views, a huge semi-open air bathroom with a very Zen feel, a separate room to use as a wardrobe and a really large and bright main room with sitting area, desk, CD player and wonderfully comfortable beds. And this was just the superior suite - we did not have the luxury suite with private swimming pool. But then again who needs a private pool when there is such a dreamy infinity pool at the hotel with the most breathtaking view imaginable? Last, but not least, the staff is among the most polite, attentive and competent I have ever experienced during my many years of travel. Overall, a fantastic experience. I would gladly go there again.

Tranquil sanctuary… absolutely gorgeous!

We stayed in Saman Villas for two nights – it was marvelous! Great view of the beach, nice infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean, scrumptious food and the most romantic dinner on a rock, decorated with lanterns and candles.

Our room was cozy, with a superb view of the beach. The large windows allowed natural light to come in and the sight of the sea, the beach and palm trees when you wake up is perfect. The bathroom deserves a mention as it was out in the open air (whilst still maintaining your privacy). It was a very unique experience. In short the room was faultless.

The service was outstanding and staff were very helpful. Especially we wish to express our gratitude to the great Manjula Derick, Spa Manager and responsible for CSR at Saman Villas. Derick took us on a village trek, visiting a local school and a temple close to the resort. Derick was very informative and passionate about sharing his knowledge. He refused to take any gratuity and said he would rather give the money to the local school to fund scholarships.

It was a delightful stay that we recommend to anyone who wants to experience a peaceful stay in a romantic and luxurious resort with all the perks.

Just returned from Saman Villas:

+ points:
Amazing location on probably the best part of beach in Bentota, well appointed comfortable rooms with the quietest aircon ever, good spa treatment, tasty huge breakfasts

- points:
NOT INFORMED OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROOM THEY GAVE US! Construction starts 6am-7pm so don't expect a good night sleep if you're in room 27 or 30.
Other negatives: Staff got order wrong on 2 occasions, were badly informed of pre-arranged complimentary treatment, poor bar service

The hotel commands the highest room rates ($450+ per night), significantly more than anything else around and the bar & restaurant menu is similarly priced. for that price in Sri Lanka you'd expect everything to be 100% flawless in all respects - and in many it was, but let down on many occasions by basic errors. They must employ at least 3 staff to every guest i'd guess, so there really is no excuse for that which is a shame because if it wasn't for that i'd give it a 5 rating without hesitation!

Management take note (and consider better apologies and guest compensation who are being asked to spend a small fortune to stay at the hotel)

Room Tip: Either the 'south side' wing (rooms 1-10 i think) or 'upper right side' (room#s <...

Brendon M, Manager at Saman Villas, responded to this review, 28 March 2014
We thank the reviewer for the recent stay at Saman Villas and commending on the location, facilities and breakfast.

The ongoing construction work referred by the reviewer is at an adjoining property which is over 20 meters away from room no:30 on upper level and room no: 27 on ground level. Construction work is carried out during the day and the generated noise level is well within the permissible Db. level.

We do not have any control over ongoing construction work at nearby properties; however we take precautions in order to ensure that our guests are not disturbed. We have been carefully monitoring the Db. levels several times a day near suite number 30 as this room has been occupied by many guests in the recent past and the Db. levels have always been well within the standard. Upon receiving a room change request from the reviewer we arranged a room change the following day due to non-availability of suites on the requested day.

The request for a room change was made at 06.30 pm, almost the time the reviewer claims the daily construction is over. The room was changed the day following by 10.00am immediately after the day’s first departure.

The prearranged spa treatment was a mere misunderstanding on our part, but it was sorted out in less than 5 minutes while guests were at the spa.

Reviewer requested for a one night waver of his accommodation charges, which we declined as their complaint did not warrant for a rebate of this nature. In view of the disturbance caused to the reviewer whilst in room 30, we waved of all their extras bills as a gesture of good will.

Thank you.

Saman Villas is probably the most Luxurious place you can go around Bentota, and I've seen quite a few of the places around Benotota.
We stayed for 5 nights in a De Luxe Suite with Private Pool from 20th to 26th of february 2014. This is the most wonderful, pictoresque and luxurious place one could imagine. Everything from the moment you step through the beautiful gate, the welcome, the rooms, the restaurant/menu, the room service, in-room dining, laundry service, everything is perfect.
The rooms were absolutely fabulous. We felt so much at home, and I can say that if I had to furnish a small suite for my private use, I would do everything exactly like they have done it at Saman Villas. The view from the terrace with the private infinity pool looking over the beautiful Indian Ocean and the white beach en the bay with all the small beach restaurants with the colorful lanterns at night, were so romantic that anything I've ever tried pale in comparison.
If you want a relaxing holiday, Saman Villas give you exactly what you want and more, from a fantastic staff, a wonderful temple like spa where you walk on small bridges over the small ponds wetween the rooms, the beautiful little private pool where you can take a dive while waiting for the fantastic breakfast to be arranged on your terrace by your personal room boy.
We had a few special wishes that they could acommodate immediately, such as a thermos with hot water in the morning an at 2:30 in the afternoon for some special tea my wife always brings, and they came like clockwork with it every day.
They also have exceptional rooms with nice kingsize beds, a good walk-in wardrobe, semi-outdoor shower (don't worry - no one can see you - it's only open through the roof above the shower, beautiful furniture, a full home cinema/hifi centre in the room, safe, minibar, phone, 24H room service (with no complaints 24/7!!), electric curtains that can be controlled from your bed, 3 A/C units (one in every room of the suite), and everything worked. We didn't have to call maintenance to take care of anything (which is often the case in many other hotels that boast their luxurious standards in ther advertising material). Here everything works, and they are willing to do anything to acommodate your every wish.
The Spa is a perfect example of how that should be made. You take off your shoes and walk over the wooden bridge to the beautiful spa where fans everywhere ensure a nice cool breeze and you are welcomed by the Physio Therapist that ask a few questions about your particular needs. He is obviously well educated and knows what he is talking about. The treatments by the Physio Therapist and all his staff are second-to-none, wether you come for a soothing treatment for sun-burned shoulders or you need a reflexology or a full body massage under the fan from a the competent staff at the spa. They really did wonders for me and my wife and it felt like you wre floating on air when you left the spa. We loved to get a Spa treatment in the early evening and then retreat to our room and sit on the beautiful terrace and order a late dinner while listening to the sea and breathing the soothing air coming in from the Indian Ocean.
Some nights we went to the beautiful library to lend some DVD/BluRay movies to watch over dessert and coffee before going to bed.
The A/C is modern and quiet and you sleep like a baby in the beautiful surroundings.
We felt treated like royalty by everyone from the staff from arrival to departure, and they are SO helpful.

Room Tip: The price difference between a room without private pool and a private pool are only 40-something...

Saman Villas is laid out on a magnificent rocky headland dividing two long, surf-swept golden beaches.
