We stayed for 3 nights on our honeymoon in September 2010. As it was out of season we were the only guests there that week - the staff all made us feel so relaxed they we enjoyed it even more. Perfect views and infinity pool, great food and amazing outside marble bathroom with sea view! My favourite hotel ever.

we stayed here for 3 nights in the "Villa". It is big but soulless; furniture is very dated and uncomfortable except for the outdoor front porch area. I actually started moving furniture around to try to make it more cosy. No paintings / decorations, no flowers, reminded me of my 1st year uni room but much bigger. There was a huge changing room area which was very random - and the outdoor bathroom all needed updating.
The food was excellent and the chef was very good at coming up with interesting variations at dinner. The bar was a total bore - looked so dead, so everyone would go back to their villa straight after dinner.
Am sure it is one of the better hotels in South Sri Lanka but we were sorely disappointed. They could improve with just a little touch of imagination. Thank god we went to the Maldives after.

We thank the reviewer for the comment made on our food and complimenting the Chef.

We agree with the reviewers comment about the Villa. In 2010 we upgraded all the Suites except the Villa because certain imported sanitaryware was not available locally. We have now rescheduled the Villa upgrading for June 2011.

Our Chairman will personally write a letter of apology to the reviewer through the Tour Operator.

We stayed for the second time at Saman Villas as the final leg of our honeymoon in October 2010. We previously stayed here in 2008 and when looking for a beautiful boutique hotel to spend the last 4 nights of our honeymoon, we were unable to find anything that looked like it could match Saman Villas. We were not disappointed, The views from this hotel are spectacular and the newly refurbished bathrooms are amazing. We stayed in a deluxe suite with pool and could not fault it. The room was cleaned twice daily to a very high standard and our pool was also cleaned every day.
This is a very relaxing place to stay and the staff went out of their way to look after us. The food here is also fantastic - lots of choice and very fresh tasting. I am a vegetarian and this was no problem at all for them.
An indication of how good the staff here are is that on our final day we found out our flight home had been cancelled. Two of the guest relation managers then spent over an hour each trying to contact our airline for us to find out what was going on and persevered until they had got through to somebody for us.
All in all this is the most fantastic hotel and we would certainly love to return again at some point.

Saman Villas is the opposite to the big, busy buffet hotels you get. If you expect discos, lots of noise and hustle and bustle then you would find this hotel boring. It is a boutique hotel, a place to relax and unwind in beauty and comfort. Yes it is expensive but how can you expect it to be cheap! look at it! Also the view of the infinity swimming pool and the beach either side is priceless!
The rooms are comfortable and have all the creature comforts you need. Having been there since the recent renovations, the hotel is definitely looking in good condition.
The service is the best i have ever had and food wise if you want something off the menu that is no problem! If you are a couple who are looking to have a romantic break, or a family looking for a relaxing holiday, i urge you to try this hotel. I love it! Also stay at the side that faces the sea head on ( i think south side?) it is the best side.....

This was my second visit to Saman Villas.Obviously I returned cause the first visit a few years ago was unforgettable,
But this time it was even better as the property has been upgrade and lots of new improvements.
Food was amazing and the staff is all eager to make it extra special for you. This was the same in my last visit too. What is so great is that its natural and genuine not just cause they are after a good tip.I simply did not wanna leave.Being my second trip I also explored a bit of neighborhood. I must mention the food I had at place called Silk Route that is close by Saman Villas.I was intrigued by the purple and gold sail and checked out the place. The menu was amazing as it was specific dishes from the countries of the land and naval trade routes. My partner and I enjoyed authentic kebabs with hummos and the authentic Thai fried rice.Yes I repeat Authentic.
Saman Villas is one of those places that has some magic and it casts a spell that is hard to escape..

This place is absolutely stunning- when I look back at my phootographs I still can't believe that they're not postcards. We took a weeklong romantic journey through Sri Lanka, starting in the mountains and down through the safari plains to look at elephants, then down to the coast. Our accomodations were generally small local B&B's , but we decided to blow our budget on the last night at this extravagantly beautiful place- we were hooked by the aerial photos, and we weren't disappointed.
Saman Villas was a delight. They picked us up and we drove for a few hours on the bumpy local roads (it always seemed to take a few hours to get between any two places in SL), before we got to the gates. The place sparkled. Nobody wore shoes. Our welcome drinks were divine. The room was cozy, cool and spacious, and smelled beautiful. From our veranda (where we took breakfast the next day), we had an undisturbed view of white beach and blue sea as far as the eye could see. We later went for a swim in the infinity pool, set on a large rock with two pristine beaches stretching out on either side. Splashing around in that, you really could believe that you were at the beginning of infinity. There were only two or thee other guests that we saw our whole time there. The staff were attentive, the food was world-class (something that I'd been missing in the charming but limited B&B's so far), and the setting just sealed it in as probably the most memorable hotel stay I've ever had.

The next day, we just didn't want to leave. The staff were happy to let us stay in our rooms for longer at no extra charge, until the car was ready to take us to Colombo- we really did save the best for last, and I recommend that you do too!

Saman Villas is laid out on a magnificent rocky headland dividing two long, surf-swept golden beaches. Close by is a sleepy fishing village but you would not know it, the only sounds are sea gulls' cries and the surf below. The resort is inspired by ancient Sri Lankan architecture. The restaurants, bars and villa suites are all angled to take full advantage of the sea shore vista either side of the headland. A terraced garden draws the eye to a dramatic infinity-edge pool. ... more   less
