We fancied a change and opted for the Oriental Pavillion in Vivanta Hotel by Taj which is where we were staying.
We did not book and arrived at around 7:45 seeing a table of four people and another couple already seated in an otherwise empty restaurant. "We are fully booked tonight " said the waiter but I will fit you in over here (at the back of the room).
That was lucky we thought and proceeded to order crispy rolls as a starter which were very good (one portion between two was enough) and Chicken with cashew nuts and chilli plus asked for sweet and sour chicken instead of pork on the menu, both with one portion of boiled rice (enough for two).
The sweet and sour was served with pork instead of the chicken we asked for and the chef told the waiter it WAS chicken (it wasn't).
All the food was good, hot and served quickly plus we asked for chopsticks which we got without any problem.
Like most restaurants in Sri Lanka seafood makes up the majority of options so there was no so many non seafood options that were not chilli hot.
Only another couple and a four arrived after us and as we left after 9pm, I am not sure when the rush was due to arrive!
Overall, a good experience for us except it was Sri Lankan new year and a government alcohol ban meant no wine :-(
