We had a dinner here during our stay in Taj Vivanta, Bentota hotel and I must admist it was one of the best chinese food I have ever had. We did not try out a number of menus and restricted to Hakka noodles, chicken mushroom and chicken hot garlic. The crowd was less and that created an air of privacy which we enjoyed as a family. The ambience almost did border on romantic and the low light and soft music added an extra zip in the mellow surroundings. The tables were nicely decorated and the waiter was all smiling and always extended a helping hand without any hassle. Wonderful selection of cocktails were there. The food was served hot and it was not very spicy and had a great taste. A delightful experience for us and we throughly enjoyed being there and had our dinner.

We had dinner there twice whilst staying @ the Taj and between our family of 4, we probably had 8 different dishes that we shared and we all thought every one of the dishes were excellent.
I read the previous reviews on TA after the 1st time we went there, and the reviews do not do the restaurant justice. Maybe the name 'Oriental' is misleading for some.
We had Asian food before in other countries, and this was amongst the best. Some well-known dishes, but a few we didnt have before. Great selection of drinks/coacktails as well.

We fancied a change and opted for the Oriental Pavillion in Vivanta Hotel by Taj which is where we were staying.

We did not book and arrived at around 7:45 seeing a table of four people and another couple already seated in an otherwise empty restaurant. "We are fully booked tonight " said the waiter but I will fit you in over here (at the back of the room).

That was lucky we thought and proceeded to order crispy rolls as a starter which were very good (one portion between two was enough) and Chicken with cashew nuts and chilli plus asked for sweet and sour chicken instead of pork on the menu, both with one portion of boiled rice (enough for two).

The sweet and sour was served with pork instead of the chicken we asked for and the chef told the waiter it WAS chicken (it wasn't).

All the food was good, hot and served quickly plus we asked for chopsticks which we got without any problem.

Like most restaurants in Sri Lanka seafood makes up the majority of options so there was no so many non seafood options that were not chilli hot.

Only another couple and a four arrived after us and as we left after 9pm, I am not sure when the rush was due to arrive!

Overall, a good experience for us except it was Sri Lankan new year and a government alcohol ban meant no wine :-(

We asked if we could have Chinese s we were half board, it felt as if we should not have been there. The choice was very limiting only 4 choices on menu. We felt uncomfortable, it was dark and cold and no atmosphere, no banter with waiter, very strange ambience.
