We spent 14 delightful days at Dalmanuta Gardens from Jan 1st to Jan 15th.

Resort is owned by Peer Franzen, swedish nationality who joins the resort several weeks a year. Beside to that the resort is managed by local people, .led by Chamal de Silva and his cute family, who has a lof of experiece in the overall Sri Lanka Tourism.
This allows a unique blend of professional high standards combined with local authenticity.

Enough said about the hard facts: Bungalow, kitchen, pool, room service, garden, ayurvedic treatment, receiption..... just great & high standards and professionel

A lot to say about soft facts: the senses and " feel good" being stimulated while your stay.
Closing my eyes still reminds me on some feelings:
Waking up in the morning -- smooth brezzin from the palms and flowers in the personal garden, -- exciting friendly, freaky noises around you from exotic birds -- garden team is caring about plants with a smile and personal dedication -- food in restaurant prepared with presonal dedication and customized for the individual guest -- served by outstanding waiters like Suresh an the other super nice persons in the cabana right at the river -- ayurvedic treatment led by a passionated local doctor taking care about "income inspection" and progess - massage and body treatments celebrated by individuals with a lof of experience and passion ------ no hustle in pool area , sunbed being prepared--- water has drinking water quality, (as a lot of birds will enjoy their bath over there) -

same passion and personal dedication applies to gardener team, receiption, pool service, room service ---, every singly person in this small resort has earned the right to be announced individually. LOVE YOU ALL.

have even performed YOGA for the first time in my life -- very easy and helpful way to enter the new experience - great sprit for, body and soul,,--- sometimes even Chamal (GM) and his family participate -- it is exciting to be a part of real YOGA session instead of western fitness entertainment.

Chamal was used to act as a travel guide with Sri Lanka can give good advices and is very helpful to organize --- , helps to organize for local conditions -- being in trip there will be one of Chamal friends -- we always have been a the right palce a right time --- we could pass "no entry" which is really helpful to differentiate form the mass tourism,

they love what they do on top of a pure job -- they want to make you happy, not as an empty phrases we are used western world --- serious interest and caretaking

Best blend of exotic environement, high class bungalow & food @ ayurvedic treatment and combining with individual customized sightseeing interest
Some people in Dalmanuty even speak German, easy to touch base and heart

Strongly recommended

Our stay in January 2014 was great. This is little paradise, quiet and comfortable. Including due to coherent and flawless work of staff we were perfectly happy. Spacious, clean bungalows. Trees and flowers in gardens, birds of incredible colours and cute little animals give a special charm to this beatiful place. Lovely kitchen, great chef and smiling crew of his aides. Attentive doctor, oil's fragrances, relaxing massages and aurvedic treatments. All this I will remember for a long time.
Thank you so much!)

We stayed at Dalmanuta from 22. to 28. of December. During Xmas it is hard to find a place to stay in Sri Lanka if you are a bit late with making bookings, so we ended up booking at Dalmanuta without doing a great deal of research. The resort is very tidy, quite modern and well looked after. That was also the feeling we got when first driving into the resort and having taken the tour around the premises with staff. We had a bungalow with two toilets, spacious bathroom, and combined living room/bedroom. It is a good standard. We really liked that you had your little private garden outside. You can spot hummingbird from the veranda. Each evening staff came and lit mosquito repellent, so it was OK to sit there after sunset. There are various flowers planted neatly in the resort. It is quite cosy. The pool area is nice and clean. You have one larger pool and one smaller pool with bubbles. The smallest is divided into two sections. The small one will work great for kids. It is very nice to sit around the larger pool the last hours before sunset. It is palm trees and green plants all around you. The food is quite good. Breakfast has a variety of fresh juices, fruits, omelette, bread, cereal. Quite satisfactory. All food is based around organic products. Even the fruit. That is quite impressive. Did not see that anywhere else in Sri Lanka. We bought a Dorado fish at the local fish market one morning, and asked the chef to cook it for us. The chef Atulla had no problem to cook it, and did it very well indeed. We can recommend to do the same thing. Visiting the fish market is nice. Staff will probably take you if you ask. The service at the restaurant is very good. Thanks to Suresh and Sunith for doing a good job. Dalmanuta is situated on the river, so you need to take either the shuttle boat from the resort or a tuk-tuk in order to get to the beach. Maybe around 10 min with tuk-tuk. This is really not a big problem, and it is very nice to stay at the river. Less noise then what the other hotels in Bentota experience during the day/night. We also went with one of the staff to the local temple. This was a unique experience and we recommend it. It is not your common touristy place, and if you get the friendly staff to join you it will be more interesting as they will share some information. It was the Kande Vihare Temple only a few minutes away. They also have a very well run Ayurvedic establishment at the resort. During our stay I was on my 5th month of pregnancy. The doctor at the Ayurvedic centre took very good care of me. She arranged that every morning I got fresh milk from the local farmer and I got prenatal massages. The masseuses did a good job. In general I can recommend this place if you are a couple that want to relax and try some Ayurveda, or you are family with kids. It could be a good start on your holiday before you venture further south, or on the way back. My husband is a keen photographer and took some pictures. All the photos is taken around in the resort.

Room Tip: All Bungalows should be good.

This review is long overdue but not because of any hesitation on my part - just simply because of hectic pace of routine life once away from this paradise setting. This was my second stay at Dalmanuta and not likely to be my last. Everything was as lovely as I remembered and, if possible, some things even better.
Chamal and his staff are simply amazing and accommodating; complete satisfaction is their aim. They treat you like family, with care. The setting itself is beautiful, peaceful, quiet and relaxing. We stayed a total of 5 days but as I understand, you need 7 days or more for the full detox effect. Next time, for me, I think. I did follow the Ayurvedic treatments and meals, though - both of which were wonderful, uplifting and rejuvenating.
Can't say enough positive about the whole resort. The setting is intimate but with adequate privacy. Outside tours can be arranged and boat rides and tuk-tuks at affordable prices offer you the best of both worlds here: off-the-beaten-path tranquility coupled with easy access to town.
Dalmanuta is a jewel in Sri Lanka's tourism crown.

We spent 3 delightful days at Dalmanuta Gardens. They only have 9 rooms so the service is very personal. The rooms are large and spacious. It is in a magical setting on the lagoon with five separate cabanas projecting over the river where you can dine. The food is excellent and again very personal as the chef will source your fresh fish in the local market and specifically cook to your request.. The setting is peaceful and tranquil and Dalmanuta are happy to arrange a 15 min boat or tuk tuk to get you to Bentota beach at a moderate cost. Bentota beach is stunning. The Ayuveydic centre is good but basic.
This offers exceptional value for money.
