simply put everything was perfect :) We were staying part of our holiday here and this was much better place than the other one. Only the bathroom here was bigger than the other hotel room.

Respect for the cook!! I had the best currys here even though they were a bit milder than in the restaurants for the locals.

Thank you to karen, Rohan and the boys and not forgetting the gate man for making this a wonderful holiday.
SHANGRI-LANKA is a great place to stay. We loved the spacious rooms, breakfasts and the lovely pool.
We would definately recommend your place to friends.
You certainly deserve your number one place on tripadvisor.
Say hello to the dogs.

We stayed at the Shangri Lanka for 3 weeks late November to mid December. Hamar picked us up at the airport with a warm welcome despite having waited six hours for our delayed plane. The new highway shortened the journey time to 2 ½ hours (the average speed in Sri Lanka appears to be 30km an hour). The website does not do justice – our first impressions of the Villa and our top floor bedroom were far greater than our (high) expectations. We also stayed in the 2nd Fl bedroom which boasts a sunken bath in lieu of the four poster beds on the top floor. Both have wonderful views. The pool is large and clean and the Villa is set in a warm and friendly village approx 15 minutes walk from the beach (or 3 mins by Tuk Tuk). We had two trips, both organised in consultation with Rohan, one week apart. We took his expert advice and changed some details on both trips to allow more rest time (bearing in mind the long journey times). His in –depth knowledge and use of excellent site guides enhanced both trips (Kandy and the Hill Country and then the deep South and Yala Safari). We enjoyed Rohan’s company and thank him kindly for the beers he conjured up on a Poya day at the Safari hotel! We also went on a trip on the Bentota river using a boat company of his recommendation, and again, had a superb guide to the wildlife and the price was cheaper than generally advertised. We tried various restaurants which we enjoyed but the calibre of cooking at the Shangri Lanka is very high. The seafood was superb and often depended on the catch that local fishermen had made that day. Most food is bought and cooked to order and all is home made. The flexibility of where (balcony or terrace) or when to dine adds to the experience. The staff are exemplary and couldn’t have done more to make our stay so welcome and enjoyable. We would like to thank Jarminder, Chaminder, David & Ishan for their fantastic service. A big thank you also to Lakshika for my (almost daily) massages by the pool. Karen and Rohan are wonderful hosts and we were also lucky to have had great fellow guests during our stay. There was some debate about whether children should be allowed to stay at Shangri Lanka outside of recognised school holiday dates. Although this did not affect us, it is perhaps wise to check at time of booking if of concern.
I cannot recommend the Villa more highly

We Visited Sri lanka for 5 nights, 4 at the Shangrilanka Villa and then a night in the middle on safari (organised through Karen).
We were picked up from the airport by Hamar (who was our driver and guide for the rest of the stay and he is fantastic) and taken to the hotel/guesthouse. It is a long drive but we were met on arrival with offer of tea/coffee or a nice cold beer if we wanted it. Whilst our evening meal of traditional Sri Lanka curry was prepared we settled into our lovely spacious room and freshened up in the lovely bathroom.
The curry was lovely and was the start of many lovely meals cooked for us by the boys, prices are very reasonable and there is a good choice of food, the lobster bbq was amazing, the huge prawns a definate to try and all in a really nice peaceful setting either outside of the kitchen or on your balcony.terrace, nothing seems to much trouble..
It sits on the edge of a mangrove forest area and so there are little chipmunks and ghekos running around but we saw so much wildlife, we loved sitting there with a cold beer and just watching what was happening! The pool area was also lovely
Karen had arranged for us to do a 2 day tour including Galle, Yala for a safari (which we stayed overnight) and also the elephant orphanage on the way back to the airport. Hamar was very professional and showed us things tat we would never of been able to do had we been on a group tour (pineapples plantations with the most amazingly tasting pineapples and trying buffalo curd in a little hut at the roadside, brilliant!). The tour (and hotel) was very good value and i cant recommend this place enough!

Having stayed at Shangri-Lanka in December 2011 for two nights we would fully recommend this guest house, we were treated wonderfully by the exemplary staff who couldn't do enough for us and prepared fantastic home cooked meals each evening for us to have on the balcony.

After an intense but enjoyable 15 days travelling round the rest of the country this was the perfect chill out before flying home. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable – it is a shame we were not staying longer. Should you ever feel the need to leave the pool and perfectly kept garden the beach is a 10minute walk away and the local turtle sanctuary was also worth visiting.

Our holiday in Sri Lanka started when our driver Hamar met us at the airport and took us to Shangri-Lanka Villa. Both my partner and our two and half year old girl were all a little tired from the flights, however we really perked up when we arrived at such a beautifull place. Karen met us on arrival and made us feel very welcome right from the start. Our room on the first part of our stay was on the first floor, it was a really nice size, large enough for all three of us. It was really clean and nicely decorated, we felt right at home. All of the staff including Ishan the chef were very attentive, the food was fantastic especially the Jumbo Prawns and BBQ ribs. Nothing was ever a chore. Everyone was chearfull and helpful, they must really enjoy working in such a nice environment. Our daughter enjoyed jumping in the swimming pool every day.

After 3 nights we left the Villa to go on a 5 night tour that had been arranged by Rohan and Karen, that took in the Elephant orphanage, Elephant rides, then to Kandy for 2 nights which was really interesting. We then went up into the mountains to visit the tea plantations which is a must see part of Sri lanka, then down to Yall for the safari. On the last leg back to Bentota we went via Galle Fort. The time taken by Hamar our guide and driver who was simply the best person to show us how the real Sri lankans live and are so hospitable. We made some great little stops on the way and even saw a rat snake try to catch his dinner. WOW what a site.
We travelled about 700km over the 5 night trip, it was well worth it, so well done to Rohan and Karen on their organisation and arranging nice hotels on the way.
We then stayed for our last 4 nights back in Shangri-Lanka Villa. A different room this time on the top floor over looking the pool, another fantastic room. (I wish our house was this big).
We all really enjoyed the company, food and people that we met on our holiday and if we returned we would definately go back to stay in this brilliant part of Sri lanka
