We stayed here 2 wonderful weeks. The personnel is great, everybody ready to help in any time. Rohan can organize tours for you, we have taken tour to Kandy - was great! Seefood cooked by Rohan was very delicious. It was the best place we was before.

It is a paradise place.

Karen and Rohan offer a unique holiday.Accommodation, food, trips, service was outstanding. We have travelled to many parts of the world so this recommendation comes from experience.

My partner and I travelled to Sri Lanka for a three week holiday at the end of September.

We booked our accommodation at Shangri-Lanka Villa directly through the website. Any emails sent to Karen and Rohan were promptly responded to.

We arrived in Sri Lanka in the early hours of the morning and were greeted at the airport for the transfer arranged by Karen. We were swiftly escorted through the airport and straight to our private taxi.

Upon arrival at the Villa were warmly welcomed and offered complimentary and tea and coffee. We were shown our room (Room 1) which was amazing. The main room was huge with floor to ceiling french doors, a super king size bed, a desk area and a day bed, there was also a small vestibule and a very large bathroom with a monsoon shower and a jacuzzi bath. Needless to say were super impressed with the room given the price!! The room had a terrace which led on to the pool. There were enough sunbeds and never had to fight for one.

For the first five days of our holiday we stayed at Shankgri-Lanka Villa and relaxed by the sparkling pool, breakfasts were provided when we wanted it rather than having to be ready for breakfast at a particular time. There are three young men who work at the Villa (Chirminder, Sanka and Danushka) who are very attentive and will serve your breakfast in the communal eating area or privately on your balcony. For breakfast the options are endless and you can ask for whatever you like. The Sri Lankan omelettes are particularly good!!

On our first day we arranged a massage with Nadeesha who provides the massage and complementary therapies on site which was very reasonably priced and was a great start to the holiday.

Whilst at the villa we arranged a tour of 7 days with Rohan which allowed us to see Galle, Yala, Kndy, Dambulla, Polonaru, Anuradhapura and Pinnewala. The tour was amazing and I have supplied separate reviews for each of the hotels that we stayed in along the way. The tour was seamlessy organised. We had a private van with a driver and tour guides at each stop along the tour. The tour guides spoke very good English and were very knowledgeable - particularly the guide at Anuradhapura who was very knowledgeable, not only about the area and the ancient site itself, but also about Buddhism generally. The tour was a great experience and I would advise anyone to do the same as it is the best way to really see Sri Lanka. Our driver (Haymar) was excellent, always stopping on request for good photo shots and pointing out exciting things along the way. Haymar kindly escorted us around the temple of the tooth during our time in Kandy and was happy to talkl about Sri Lanka generally and the sites that we visited. We were lucky enough to visit Anuradhapura on a poya day when local Sri Lanks took part in a procession and attended at the local stupa. Athough you should note that on a poya day you will be unable to purchase alcohol in many establishments - the hotel we were staying in closed the bar on this occasion, although I understand that some hotels within Sri Lanka may supply alcohol for international guests.

The tour was very reasonably priced and we were provided with a refund for the monies which we had paid for the room at the Villa whilst we were away - we were able to put the money towards the cost of the tour which made it even better value!!

When we returned to the Villa, we made use of the laundry service as we literally had no clean clothes left - the washing was returned promptly and even our socks were ironed!! My boyfriend has been very disappointed that he is not offered this kind of service at home!!

Whilst we had been away on tour, we had packed our belongings in our spare case so that they could be moved if anyone else had ben staying in the room in the intervening week. When we returned Karen gave us the option of staying in Room 1 or moving to one of the other rooms - it appears that they had purposely not taken on many bookings because the pool would be out of order for a few days. We decided to move to the top floor room (Room 3) for the last week of our which was almost like having another holiday again. The room was just as beautiful as the ground floor but had two double four poster beds and a normal shower rather than a jacuzzi and monsoon shower. The room did boast a small kitchenette with a sink and kettle etc although we only used it once. The was a beautiful view over the jungle and as there was no one passing by the room it was very peaceful. Although, if I was to say which was my favourite room, I would choose the ground floor room as I liked the fact that you could chat with other guests as they were coming and going etc.

Whilst at the villa we stayed in very often for dinner because the food at the Villa is superior to many of the local restaurants. We were a bit disappointed with Escoffier which is a relatively newly opened international style restaurant. I would however very much recommend Maali's restaurant which is a seafood restaurant run by Rohan's nephew - the restaurant was an international bistro style and the food wqas excellent - although it was by far the most expensive meal we had in Sri Lanka it was still super cheap by comparison with prices at home - we had the seafood platter which was delicious!

During the time we stayed at the Villa, the pool was being re-grouted for a few days - were had already been made aware of this at the time of booking - so we decided to venture down the coast road and stopped for lunch at Saman Villas. The hotel was very scenic and lunch was fine. We had planned to just spend some time sitting by the pool enjoying the view from the infinity pool but were advised that if you were not staying at the hotel you could not sit next to the pool - you had to sit up by the restaurant despite the fact that we had bought lunch - would have been happy to buy drinks throughout the day and the pool and hotel grounds were empty in any event - needless to say I would not stay there and found the staff to be very rude - this is not indicative of all of the hotels in Sri Lanka. All of the people we met during our holiday were lovely.

Local highlights include the turtle sanctuary which is a must do!! A\s the villa is also situated on the edge of the jungle, you will see lots of local wildlife, including bats, monkeys, water monitors etc. Karen does have three dogs on site who were very friendly and perfectly harmless. On occasion, when sitting reading on the balcony they would come and sit with us.

Rohan and Karen really looked after us during our stay, the food was excellent (we had suckling on one occasion and a seafood barbecue including fresh lobster. On many occasion we had sri lanka curry which was very tasty, the accommodation was always super clean and the boys who work at the villa were incredibly helpful and even agreed to change money for us and do some shopping for gifts at the end of our stay so that we paid local prices rather than inflated tourist prices. They really could not do enough for us - even teaching me how to make local coconut rotis - delicious!! The rooms were elegantly and beautifully furnished. We were also provided with a laptop to use free of charge during our stay.

We had a brilliant holiday and would heartily recommend Shangri-Lanka Villa to anyone considering visiting Sri Lanka.

I note that there have been previous reviews complaining that water was not complimentary but tea and coffee was - when we stayed there all of the bottled water in the room was provided free of charge in addition to the tea and coffee.

One thing which should be noted is that the mosquitoes are very active in Bentota, we were bitten more here than on any other part of the island and would recommend that travellers ensure that they bring plenty of deet with them.

I am happy to provide further information and tips.

Happy travelling!

This is a fantastic guest house, with large airy rooms, a great shower and the swimming pool is absolutely lovely and a very nice temperature. The lovely sandy beach is a walkable distance away.

Both breakfast and lunch were of the best quality that we had during our trip to Sri Lanka.

Karen is a very friendly host, she was quick to reply to emails before we arrived, arranged a hassle free collection from the airport when we arrived late at night and also helped us with money changing and transport to our onward destination.

An excellent place to spend a break on the south west coast of Sri Lanka.

The accommodation is great value and the rooms are immaculate. The balconies/terrace for each room are big, as are the rooms and the bathroom. 3 rooms share the pool/gardens so it is all very tranquil.

Shangri Lanka offer lunch and evening meals at a good price and the drinks available are very reasonable. I had a constant supply of Lion beer! Choose to have breakfast, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea on your balcony. For a change other restaurants in Bentota are a short tuk-tuk journey away (about £1) each way. They also offer massage/spa treatments.

The staff are very attentative without being intrusive.

Plenty of wildlife around. Water monitors, monkeys, birds. The Bentota turtle sanctuary is a 5 minute tuk-tuk journey where you can release turtles into the indian ocean in the evening.

They also offer tours which you can personally create - we organised a 4 night trip before we arrived there.

I can't fault the place. Apologies as I'm sure I've forgotten other good things about the place!

Spent a great week staying here. The rooms are lovely and we recieved a warm welcome. The owners were very friendly and we enjoyed staying here. Food in particular deserves a mention and we recommend trying the Lion lager.

We also stayed up the road at the Saman Villas which was also nice, but for the price and service this place is the winner.
