Wijaya Beach is trendy, popular hangout with the local expatriate population if galle. Small restaurant by a lovely beach. Crammed with tables and small bar on the back. Trance music blaring from the stereo with wait staff dressed in golf shirts with 'Wijaya team' printed at the back. Typical beach shack one finds in every tourist destination world over. Two wood burning pizza ovens by the entrance to restaurant.
Sashimi tuna to share for appetizer. 6 slices of tuna arranged on a side plate. Tuna was fresh but was average in taste and lacked the fatty taste so desired. Was told that fatty tuna is very rare in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
Ordered a seafood pizza and Thai gren curry with chicken. Pizza about 10 inches across and served on a wooden pizza tray. Thin crust, small amounts of calamari and shrimp. Thai green curry rich creamy and served with white rice. Both were excellent.
Dessert was brownies and ice cream. Rich, dense brownie flavor. Very tasty but not memorable.
The check came to ruppies 8500 including couple of rounds of drinks. Well worth the price considering the unique location and atmosphere.
Wijaya serves alcohol with a wide array of cocktails. Prices on the high side when compared to other beach locales in unawatuna area.
I would rank the ambience at Wijaya the best of the beach locales in Sri Lanka. The food was of a high standard but there were a few other restaurants that served better. Overall wijaya is a place where one can relax With a sundowner and watch surfers. Place to truly enjoy the best of sri lankas beaches.
