“Beautiful location”

We - a family of 5 adults and 1 teenager - stayed at the villa for 7 days. To start with the positives, the staff running the villa are magnificent. Larihu - 23 years old - manages the day to day life of the villa. He has trained as a chef and cooks the finest food. He arranges the evening meal in consultation with the guests and then goes off to the local market to buy the food. The local fish, in particular, is fresh and very tasty. He will cook any type of food, but his Sri Lankan dishes, in particular, are excellent. In addition, he will bake for afternoon tea - superb lemon, coconut, or banana cakes. He is an excellent host willing and able to provide advice and information on everything. His team of helpers - his mother who is responsible for indoor cleaning, etc and Kusum who is responsible for garden maintenance and security - are very friendly and efficient. They will arrange Tuk Tuks or car hire for wherever you wish to go, and these local drivers are also very friendly.
The villa is situated by the lake. It is quiet and peaceful and the view of the lake is stunning. The garden is well maintained and there is a small swimming pool. The villa is about 15 minutes by Tuk Tuk from the beach. Overall, the villa is well equipped. But for the price one is paying, the owner needs to invest in some improvements. For example, some of the fans in the bedrooms need repair and maintenance. It can be hot and stuffy at night and the ventilation is not as good as it should be. The bedding - mattresses and sheets - need replacing . And the hot water system for the showers should be upgraded - a hot water shower only lasts about 5 minutes. So, in conclusion, a very positive experience, but the owner needs to put some money into renovation if he is to warrant charging this price.

Perfect villa for a bit of rest and relaxation. The house itself is beautifully furnished and the layout design creates the feeling that you're in paradise. It is clean and comfortable with spectacular views of the lake. Jumping from the rock into the pool was great fun too.

The position of the house, overlooking a huge and beautiful lake near Galle, is fabulous. The house of traditional aspect is extreme]y clean and comfortable. A delicious pool with verandas overlooking the lake. first class staff and excellent cooking. Quiet and close to nature but with 5 star comfort. We were transported back to a better and more elegant age. Even better than we hoped. Highly recommended.

“A Very Special Place!”

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay at 'Croc Rock' more. The setting is stunning, on a beautiful unspoilt lagoon on the edge of the jungle. As we arrived there were peacocks flying from tree to tree and monkeys playing chase-me-Charlie in the tree-tops. A very good start!

Things only got better. The staff were completely charming and looked after us beautifully - and always with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble. Lahiru's food was just fantastic and amongst the best we had in Sri Lanka.

The house itself is beautifully laid out and decorated, and very comfortable. The view out over the lagoon from our bedroom was a sight to behold every morning. The peace and tranquility was heaven. We can't wait to go back, and I am still dreaming about that food...

Crocodile Rock is in the most stunning setting over looking Lake Koggala. It has the perfect combination of being secluded and peaceful but within five minutes you can reach other beaches along the South Coast Coast.
The house is designed beautifully and has all the amenities you could possibly need. Lahiru is the most brilliant cook and I think his rice and curry is some of the best I've had in Sri Lanka. I would recommend Crocodile Rock to anyone who is looking for a secluded spot with real character. It is a little haven with lots to offer.

“Really nice place to use as a base or just to stay put in.”

We have stayed at Croc Rock several times and never thought to write a review but here it is now. The location is good, with easy access to Ahangama, Weligama and Galle and all the beaches. The setting is sensational, with a wonderful view over the lake and the scudding fishermen, and it is quite something to have a huge rock in your swimming pool. The house is very agreeable, stylishly furnished and well equipped; perfect for a couple or a family. Lahiru in the kitchen is a great cook and a very nice guy and a kind host who will go to every trouble, as is Kusum on security and Asanka in the tuk tuk. The bread van music drives you bonkers and the monkeys nick things but that is all part of the charm. Go there to indulge yourelf and enjoy Sri Lanka.
