“Small Art Deco Hotel with a fantastic pool”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

This hotel was only renovated from the original property a couple of years ago. It has been sympathetically done and the rooms are large, clean and well looked after. The A/C is noisy! Excellent pool. Excellent choice of breakfasts. Excellent food in the restaurant with a variety of live singers to entertain you. We had a 2300 departure for our flight home and were allowed to use the pool and wash-rooms all day after booking out of our room. The manager seemed disappointed that he couldn't offer us free use of a room as the hotel was fully occupied! The location is everything! We managed to walk around all of Galle Fort from here. I would definitely stay here rather than at Galle Fort Hotel!

Room Tip: The suites are upstairs, the rooms by the pool. You get what you pay for! Only 7 rooms so no problem...

Stayed one night at Deco on 44 March 5th. It is, as I said, a nice small boutique hotel in the centre of Galle. I would not say that it has a colonial look like the Fort Printers, but it has character. Our room was probably not the best of the hotel (it was close to the pool), but it was nevertheless very large, had a great bed and a large bathroom with very nice soap, conditioner and body lotion. The air condition, fan and wifi worked wonderfully. The breakfast was wonderful and we had the best tasting scrambled eggs with chillies and tomatoes. the restaurant seemed to have been the busiest in town - I almost wish we had eaten there and not the Fort Printers.

The service in this small well located ( in the heart of the Fort area) quiet boutique hotel was outstanding. They look up from the reception desk and warmly greet you each time you enter or exit. Nice small touches such as fresh towels at night on bed, flower petals, little magnets and bookmarks. They were very welcoming of our driver whom we asked to join us for dinner. The chef came out to discuss the food. Very good food selection and drinks available. Room is clean and close to swimming pool. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Beautiful displays of food. The fresh fruit platter -I did not even want to eat it at first because it was so pretty! Nice ambiance. Sunlight. Tasteful. Clean. Boutique feel. The bread is perfectly toasted. The tea is delish. They even have more European alternatives perfectly executed, such as porridge, as well as eggs benedict, which I haven't seen much of in Sri Lanka. The 1,5 month trip 90% the time breakfast has been a drag, and a disappointment, with the same hard toast, spongy fried egg and sugary marmalade. This was a party for the senses!! My parents even went back in the evening to try their dinner, and were equally impressed. Perfect service -they are very attentive, perceptive and graceful. Could not recommend more. Even the price was good!

We stayed one night here in the junior suit (star). The hotel is located in the heart of Galle Fort. The hotel is not big (maybe already a big one within Galle Fort, a lot of others we saw within the fort are small or family style), but well designed and decorated.
Our room is big and comfortable, well equipped.
We didn't have dinner there, but breakfast which is excellent: the place, the food and the service. We also saw a band playing during the dinner.
There is a jewelry shop in the hotel, the sales man are a bit too enthusiast...
In short, if you want a quality hotel within Galle Fort, Deco 44 is a good choice. And I strongly recommend ppl to choose a hotel within the Fort when visiting Galle.

Room Tip: if you budget allows, choose the suits on 1st floor.

Boutique hotel in centre of fortress Galle, short walk to perfect sunsets, fishing boats, beaches. International Cricket Stadium for those with a love for the willow. Rooms great, staff very friendly and efficient. Breakfasts with range western and Sri Lankan on offer. Dinner lots of choices but wandering minstrels were conversation stoppers though they did move around frequently. Well worth visiting, lovely place to stay. Evening turn down service a treat!

We arrived around 5pm, and were shown to our room. After taking a nap and freshening up we decided to eat. Its seems every where in Fort area closes early. By 9.30pm the whole area is closed. No one to been seen. We asked at the front desk if anything would be open.
We walked around the area and everyone was dead. I found it a little spooky even though I was with my husband. I wouldnt advise a woman to stay here alone or walk around after 9pm.
The hotel was clean with nice decor. However the service is not great. Breakfast has to be ordered the night before if you having a traditional sri lankan one. I asked for a veggie breakfast and was told they would arrage something for me. In the morning nothing was arranged and I had a plate of fruit and some toast. Breakfast was included in the room rate, definitely not worth paying for. My husband had an american breakfast which consisted of 2 eggs and 2 skinny chicken sausages (halal).
I would best describe Deco on 44 as a nice guesthouse. Not worth the £100 + tax we paid. More like a £60. I would stay elsewhere for this price. Overall disappointed with my stay and feel a bit ripped off.
