“A fantastic way of seeing inland Sri Lanka”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

A lovely ride through the Sri Lankan countryside; fantastic views, wildlife and a nice change from coastal views. A really nice way of seeing some of the inland areas of Sri Lanka.

Organised through Alex on e-mail; we assumed we would be alone, so were surprised when we turned up to a group (which happened to be one large family). We were slightly put out at this but then we hadn't asked, had simply assumed it would be just us.

The tour began slowly due to a huge difference in cycling competence within the group, however the local guide quickly realised the frustrations of the more competent riders and organised a second guide for the slower contingent. The guide was lovely; very friendly, chatty and explained various sights along the way.

The bikes are of a reasonable standard and well-kept. The majority of the route is on tracks and there is very little traffic to encounter. Water is provided at the start, mid-way and again at the end. King Coconut is also provided mid-way through the ride. A support tuk-tuk is also on hand to help out.

We chose to do the Lake and Paddy trail which is around 15 miles; although loops back on itself so around a third of the route you will have already have been along on the way out.

All in all a great way of spending 2-3 hours and definitely recommended. Though this is a Brit run company, so don't be expecting Sri Lankan prices (!) but conversely you can expect well-kept bikes and a professionally organised tour.

“Absolutely worth your time”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

A very nice and relaxing bike ride through the country side of Galle. You'll see plenty of rice paddies, palm trees, local wildlife, friendly locals and if you're lucky also some monkeys on treetops. The clean and fresh air will only add to the experience.

“outstanding afternoon in Galle”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

Great afternoon ride across only partially made paths and roads amongst the paddy fields and villages and Lake. Our guide pointed out water monitors, birds and several plants including cinnamon. Tuk Tuk rescued us when my son's chain broke and brought a replacement bike. All in all thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.

“My favourite thing to do in Galle...”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

i've been visiting Galle for 10 yrs - and I always do a couple of bike rides on each trip. The beaches and historic fort are the main attractions for visitors, but it's only when you head inland that you get a feel for the Sri Lankan way of life and see the beautiful countryside. Travelling by bicycle is the perfect pace to take in everything around you. Pedalling through villages and paddy fields you'll see loads of birds (kingfishers, peacock and egret), plus water buffalo, monitor lizards, monkeys - and people just going about their lives. It's a beautiful and peaceful way to spend a couple of hours - ending up at the beach for a swim. Early mornings or late afternoon are advisable if you want to avoid the main heat of the day. The shortest ride is a good starting point - though combining with a lunch at Kahanda Kanda is also a great option. Don't forget sunscreen and your camera, and dress appropriately for rural countryside. The guides carry plenty of water.

“Lovely bike ride”
Reviewed 13 March 2013 via mobile

Had a great couple of hours riding down to Lake Koggala with my guide Usuru. It was great riding on trails through the paddy fields, seeing eagles and kingfishers, peacocks, water buffalo with their babies, monkeys, squirrels and iguanas. Also lots of friendly people. We stopped to drink fresh coconut milk at a local stall.
Bikes were okay, sadly needed a good tune up, but as it was pretty flat, few gear changes were needed.
