We had a great journey behind the VERY noisy A2 road. Cycle around where Sri Lankans live - see schools, churches, houses, people in the rice fields, birds etc. Our guide did not speak a lot of english and we think paying $20 a person for a bike for 1 1/2 hour is too much! But it is certainly worth the ride if you have the time.

Idle Tours is THE best way to see the other side of Galle! We went for 12km Paddy Trail bike ride & enjoyed it thoroughly. We were apprehensive of being able to complete the ride without any practice, but the riding bikes along the green paddy fields, ever smiling locals was so damn easy that we surprised ourselves!

We had an unfortunate incident of someone stealing our money kept in the bag while we were away riding. But, the manner in which Alex handled the situation was second to none! This genuine gesture convinced me that Idle Tours is definitely a professionally run organisation which keeps customer satisfaction, ethics on top of everything else.

I am 100% sure that I'll visit Idle Tours next time I'm in Galle.

A lovely ride through the Sri Lankan countryside; fantastic views, wildlife and a nice change from coastal views. A really nice way of seeing some of the inland areas of Sri Lanka.

Organised through Alex on e-mail; we assumed we would be alone, so were surprised when we turned up to a group (which happened to be one large family). We were slightly put out at this but then we hadn't asked, had simply assumed it would be just us.

The tour began slowly due to a huge difference in cycling competence within the group, however the local guide quickly realised the frustrations of the more competent riders and organised a second guide for the slower contingent. The guide was lovely; very friendly, chatty and explained various sights along the way.

The bikes are of a reasonable standard and well-kept. The majority of the route is on tracks and there is very little traffic to encounter. Water is provided at the start, mid-way and again at the end. King Coconut is also provided mid-way through the ride. A support tuk-tuk is also on hand to help out.

We chose to do the Lake and Paddy trail which is around 15 miles; although loops back on itself so around a third of the route you will have already have been along on the way out.

All in all a great way of spending 2-3 hours and definitely recommended. Though this is a Brit run company, so don't be expecting Sri Lankan prices (!) but conversely you can expect well-kept bikes and a professionally organised tour.

A very nice and relaxing bike ride through the country side of Galle. You'll see plenty of rice paddies, palm trees, local wildlife, friendly locals and if you're lucky also some monkeys on treetops. The clean and fresh air will only add to the experience.

Great afternoon ride across only partially made paths and roads amongst the paddy fields and villages and Lake. Our guide pointed out water monitors, birds and several plants including cinnamon. Tuk Tuk rescued us when my son's chain broke and brought a replacement bike. All in all thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.
