Elegant and charming - thats the hotel and the staff, who were all most helpful (there seemed to be a lot of staff - perhaps because the hotel was quite quiet)
Wonderful rooms and facilities and right in the old fort, so good to get out and walk around the very interesting area after a week of touring by car

Room Tip: Higher floors in oldest part of building are wonderful, quiet, great views, (but no lift!)

A truly colonial paradise. After trying AmanWella for a few days then you must try AmanGalla. Completely different settings but with one common theme: absolute luxury. Galle is an amazingly charming town. And AmanGalla is brilliantly designed. From the second you walk into your room, hear the jazz music playing and then are escorted around the property by your butler then you will fall in love with this place. This is what dreams are made of..

We had high expectations and Amangalla exceeded them in every way.
Everything about this hotel is just perfect.

After the welcome by the General Manager, our butler showed us our room (chamber n°6) which was simply breathtaking with a lot of small details about the history of the building. It's like stepping back in time. The furniture are all antiques. The housekeeper did an amazing job, very discreet but always present, even to just open us the door…

Overall, the service was the best we experienced in Sri Lanka. All the members of the staff were very efficient. We particularly liked the fact that the staff knew our room number without needing to tell them, the « no bill to sign » policy, the small gifts everyday and all the small attentions like being handed cold towels everytime we came back to the hotel.

Nalin, our butler, took us to an interesting tour of the city. He was really excellent and always present. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

The food was really good and we particularly enjoyed the atmosphere of the veranda during dinner.

The swimming pool is perfectly designed and again the service provided is excellent.

We had wonderful spa treatments. Go for the ayurvedic treatments as it's one of their specialties.

I'm still dreaming about this place. Thank you Amangalla family

One tip : if you want to buy same furniture for your house, go to Olanda. It’s like the ali baba’s cave. After an hour of negociations, you can get good prices.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room to avoid noise from the street and from the room above yours as the floo...

Besides being an impressive historic hotel, we were treated like royalties from the minute we stepped in. Our butler introduced himself to us and for the remaining for days of our stay, we was actually available at all times and ready to assist in all kinds of tasks, from taking our pictures to opening for us the roof to get the beautiful views of the fort, to actually recommending tours and arranging everything.

The management made sure to arrange for daily personalized souvenir gifts to my daughter and my wife. Truly appreciated gesture.

The food was limited but of great quality.
We will return for another relaxing escape whenever we have the chance.

Room Tip: All rooms are great and unique

Dropped by the Amangalla late afternoon after visiting Galle. Afternoon tea service on the veranda was divine. In fact, I still dream about this hotel - it's like stepping back in time. Will have to stay here when I come back to Sri Lanka.

Amangalla’s history is born out of the early Dutch colonial period, and is located right in the heart of the preserved Dutch fort, offering guests a memorable and appropriately stylish stay in architectural splendour. It is surrounded by antiques, old prints, polished aged-floors, crisp white linen, pristine walls, rich mahogany, wood and rattan planters together with a gracious, welcoming and warm staff.
Had the most amazing lunch in Galle fort with such great service and throughly enjoyed! Thank you!

We spent three nights at the Amangalla, which was overall deserving of the buzz/hype. Here's a quick rundown:

Rooms: we stayed in a second floor suite overlooking the main road (with water behind). The soaring ceilings were hugely impressive and gave a majestic feel to already expansive rooms. Everything was tastefully furnished with a good mix of modern amenities and traditional decor. Bathroom was huge. A couple minor gripes: (1) the massive/luxuriously soft bath towels had stains on them on two occasions, (2) the building is old and not owned by Amangalla, so I imagine structural improvements aren't feasible. The walls, floors and ceilings are thin, and we could very clearly hear cleaning staff walking around/moving things in the upstairs room.

Service: all staff members were friendly and always smiling (but not in any odd/fake way). The butler is a nice touch and helped us with everything from spa bookings to car transportation logistics. The general manager greeted us when we checked in and thanked us when we left. Top notch service all around...

Amenities / spa: The spa is immaculate and luxurious. My wife had some massages and treatments done, which were great. The third generation barber gives a solid haircut. We were attending a wedding during our visit, so we unfortunately didn't get to try the interesting excursions offered.

Food: We had one dinner and multiple breakfasts. All were fresh and well prepared.

Other: The power grid is delicate, and electricity seemed to shut down periodically (although never for more than a few seconds). So our Bose alarm clock was always blinking with the wrong time. Wifi only worked 25% of the time, which was a little frustrating.
