Our room was perfect, beauifully furnished and appointed and very clean. The manager and all the staff were very helpful and extremely friendly . Dining at the restaurant is a must , excellent food, great menu, fantastic service and wonderful ambience. We found hotel to be very quite and serene , we loved our 3 night stay !!! The Fort Printers is a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Galle Town. It has five rooms - all large and spacious, with an interesting concept for the bath area. There is a separate shower area and toilet cubicle behind the bed. However, both the shower room and the toilet area do not have ceilings (while they do have doors), which means everything can be heard. That could be awkward for many people. That aside, the air-con was lovely, there is the option of a ceiling fan, the bed and pillows are comfortable, and they light a scented burner every night when they perform the turn-down service - a nice touch. You can hear the wood floor creak every time you walk, which may bother some people, but it was fine for us.

We had the best service in our experience in the country at Fort Printers - the manager and staff rarely decline any request, they always have smiles, and speak in a gentle manner. There are a few lounge areas in the hotel lobby/dining, where one can relax. It almost has the feel of being in your own large home. There is a very samll pool where one could freshen up after a hot day, but there is not much space for anything else.

In my opinion, the food was the best part. I have to honestly say everything we had on the menu was fantastic! Lobster curry, hummus, seared tuna, passionfruit pavlova, etc. We tried about 3/4 of the entire menu during our stay among the four of us. We were truly sad to move on from the hotel. Another benefit is guests can use the facilities of their sister hotel for free - Frangipani Tree in Thalpe, a short ride away. This property is on the beach and has a beautiful lap pool.

I would definitely return to the hotel again. We were all truly sad to leave. Thank you to everyone who makes Fort Printers a beautiful experience!

Room Tip: We stayed in the standard rooms and these were big enough.

The staff very excellent, and the room we had, The Headmaster's suite was huge.

The only issue we had with the hotel was the noise. The call to prayer from the nearby mosque was very loud, and woke us up very early! We had spent one night at a sister property in Thalpe, and moved back after the one night there.

There food was excellent, and not too expensive considering the quality.

Top hotel with excellent staff.

To my mind this is the best hotel in Galle Fort......not large by any means, a beautifully restored old Print Works, with class. I stayed in a room named Headmaster's which had a huge bathroom/dressing area, a first class shower and then a wonderful and very comfortable bed with great pillows. Fan and a.c. I was in heaven here, lying in bed listening to the Muezzin call at dawn, the birds in the courtyard and the gentle sounds of the vegetable sellers calling out as they wend their way around the Fort. The food is excellent and very well presented. There is a quiet and elegant ambiance about The Printers. My stay here is one that I will treasure.

Room Tip: I can recommend Headmasters although I didnt see the other rooms.

My husband and I stayed for three nights in 'History'. The best room is very basically furnished with a hard matress and oversized wooden bed frame - which is actually dangerous. My husband is now bed ridden because of the three times he caught his leg on the corner of it, in the night. He has contracted Cellutitis and will not be up and about for a month(over Xmas). Our bedroom had four large windows in it, but the cutains (which were sun bleached and torn) could not be left open for light as the rooms are very overlooked from every direction. Then in a glass box in the middle of the loft space you have a toilet and a shower with no privacy at all as everything can be heard! The toileteries were minamal and there is no complimentary tea making in the rooms.
The hotel was raided of all its alcohol on one night we stayed there, apparently because the hotel does not have an alcohol licence.
The chef/staff were the best thing about the place as the Lobster Curry was devine and the breakfasts are really good!

How sad to read poor reviews about this lovely boutique hotel! The staff are delightful. Always kind, willing and helpful. They care a great deal about the hotel and its guests.Admittedly the floor boards do creek but it is a historic building so the authentic wooden floors, doors and shutters add to the character and charm. The decor and furnishings are tasteful and chique. The food is excellant and the small dining area in the courtyard is peaceful and intimate. The pool is long and narrow in the courtyard but it is in perfect proportion to the area. It is a welcome treat to refresh in the cool pool after a day out. We are returning to Galle in March and though the hotel is fully booked, we intend to revisit one evening for dinner!

Room Tip: We stayed in History - at the end of the corridor so no passing guests.
