Came for dinner. Sit on the terrace by the pool. Order the lobster curry. It was really tasty and comes with lots of sides. 2 courses and a bottle of wine between two came to USD 30 per person. Definitely recommend

I concur with the previous 2 reviews that the hotel rooms were disappointing. My allocated room was very dark with no natural light and one window. I rushed to the window to let in the light and then fell up a stair when trying to open the curtains. As mentioned by LynP52 the room safe is located on top of the wardrobe and for me at 160cm impossible to reach and read the instructions in the dim light. Another issue was the bathroom with a seperate shower stall, toilet (no ceiling) and the basin located around the corner. I spoke with reception who advised that there were no other rooms available and basically that was that.

After reading many glowing reviews my friend and I booked into this property with high hopes. However they were quickly dashed by a fairly lacklustre welcome and a long wait for our room keys. We were allocated rooms in the main house up a series of some 3 lots of stairs into very dark large rooms. The lighting in the room was very dim and there was no natural light as the rooms opened out to a public corridor (which had windows) so had we opened our curtains any guest walking by could see us in whatever state we were in! The stairs proved very difficult for my friend who had a very sore left knee and there was yet another step leading up to a strange bathroom configuration. We were disappointed with the lack of amenities in the room, and the security safe was located on top of the wardrobe, very challenging to reach even if you were of average height. When we explained to reception our difficulties and our wish to stay in another hotel, she made little effort to assist us except to advise that we would be charged for the three nights booked with no refund possible. We stayed in small period colonial properties throughout our stay and loved them all but Fort Printers is a step too far into the past!

Having read the reviews about Fort Printers were were expecting a lot, but were somewhat disappointed. The first room we were shown (across the road from the hotel in an annexe) had a ridiculously dangerous open staircase with no bannisters. The next room was fine but again across the road and so without the benefits of the lovely old hotel that we had expected. We arranged a take-away breakfast on the last day, but on asking for it were told that the staff knew nothing about it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel, not across the road

We arrived in Galle having no accommodation booked and were very fortunate to find this little gem. We were welcomed by lovely staff after a long journey from Ella with wonderful fruit juice and a ice cold towel to be shown the History Room which was along a beautiful wooden terrace. The room itself was amazing. Huge, very simply restored with a lovely shower area with his and hers sinks and the most fabulous wooden creaking floors and lofty ceilings. We also had windows overlooking the frangipani courtyard with the fragrance floating into our room - lush! The only let down was the hard bed, which was not to my personal liking. The one night we stopped our room was "turned down" and the mosquito net drawn around the bed which was much needed. The staff kind and helpful, and breakfasts were lovely. I cannot comment on the dinner as we only stopped here for one night, and went out walking. The public downstairs areas were very comfortable and again wonderfully restored, with the most magnificent flower arrangements. For one night it was really worth treating ourselves and made for a unexpected addition to the excellent selection of Sri Lankan hotels and guest houses we sampled.

Room Tip: The History Room is at the end of the corridor which makes it more private. No fault at all with the room as it was amazing. The air con was very noisy so we cooled the room down and then used the quiet and very effective ceiling fan. I found the bed hard however I would imagine that this would be the same for all the rooms. Overall the room was delightful and I would certainly recommend it.
