“A Perfect Holiday!”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

We visited this hotel for the second time last month and can highly recommend it. The management, the receptionists and the staff could not do enough to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The location is absolutely perfect for a lovely, relaxing holiday and with the new highway, getting to Colombo was a real pleasure. We have given it a four star rating because we are saving the 5 for the review after our next visit. The rooms, though large and airy with balconies, need a facelift and this is due to be done during the summer of 2014. The hotel is closing for a few months for a refurbishment and we have seen one of the rooms that has already been done!! Wow! It will be superb and will qualify for a 5+ category! Our thanks to Mr and Mrs Croos who are doing a splendid job. We look forward to having another wonderful break with them!

We stayed here for one night before we left Sri Lanka early the next day. We were really happy with the hotel and it was fine as a one stop place. The staff were helpful and friendly and gave us a breakfast pack at 4am when we checked out. The swimming pool was pleasant with a bar/ restaurant at the side of it. It was directly on the beach as well. The rooms were kind of basic but the beds were comfy and we did sleep well despite the early rise. Would stay there again if I was back in Negombo. It was great value for money.

we stayed here for 2 weeks and found it very nice, little out dated but everything worked, and a clean room. Excellent location directly onto the beach. Many local weddings came here for their photo's because of the background. Normal variety for Breakfast and we ate in the restaurant a couple of nights with no complaint. We used J C Tours for our tours and money exchange, turn left from hotel and across the road. Suresh will look after your every need. Hotel closes in April 2014 for 4 months for total upgrade. Places to eat? Sea view and Honky tonk 2 were v good. Local Indian good, Tuskers excellent, Italian Prego very poor service. Cinnamon tree(silva's) excellent. Bars, it was just getting ready for the season but, Serennibs andTastee's very good but Rodeo's was excellent, always made welcome here. All these places were to the left from the Hotel. Turn right towards Negombo there were a few Restaurants but a little quieter. All in all, an excellent place to holiday, down side, if you want the beach action like Goa then you'll be disappointed, maybe if they do open the excellent beaches up sunbeds and shacks then maybe 10 out of 10, instead of a 9. I would certainly go again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor for the views. Our room 309 was on the "curve" of the Hotel so was...

I do not like writing bad reviews. But I'm surprised to see the rating of this hotel. I spent a total of 12 nights here for two workshops. I'm little ashamed because other participants are from countries nearby and they might have think that this is the type of hotels we are having in Sri Lanka. My first room was not so clean, hot water was difficult to get and TV was not working. Second time (I had to go there for the workshop), AC was not working and the floor was not cleaned when I checked in. Then I went there with my family and requested a triple room, which was not ready. The floor is not tiled and dirty looking. There are ugly looking analog TVs high up in the wall. Do not think about a good sleep and relaxing hotel stay (in your room)

Good thing is that reception and management is very good. Sea view is fantastic.

Room Tip: Go to your room check all the items before you settle....

We stayed here for the night before catching the plane home. It's in a good situation, with the main street and its shops and restaurants at the front (ATM some distance away) and straight out onto the beach (past a group of local traders) at the back, so a stroll along the extensive beach is only a few yards away.
Lovely swimming pool, good views of the sea and the beach from most of the rooms - but the rooms themselves seem frozen in the 1970's with a predominant brown and orange theme. The room photo used by the hotel seems heavily glamourised. No soap or shampoo provided.
The bar is eccentrically themed as a Pirate ship plus mocked up full suit of armour: no idea why.
The food was mainly western with only a limited local range and if it had not been for a heavy storm and rain we would have chosen from the high street where there is a range of eateries.
In summary, pleasant enough, convenient for the airport, but could do with an update and we were happy to be staying only the one night.

Having visited Sri Lanka many times but always staying in the South, I decided to try Negombo but was not enamoured by some of the reviews here on trip adviser so went with an open mind.

The Paradise Beach Hotel is a pleasant clean hotel ideally located right on the beach. The first thing to hit you is the friendliness BUT ALSO efficiency of the hotel staff. All of them do go out of their way to make you feel welcome but unlike in many Sri Lankan Hotels, the staff are not constantly pestering for cigarettes or tips. Indeed I have yet to have ANY hotel employee ask for a cigarette or tell me 'how poor he/she is which is the 'norm' for Sri Lanka.

There is a very pleasant reception area overlooking the pool and gardens and (joy of joys) a lift to the three floors of rooms. The rooms are pretty standard with plenty of space, comfortable beds, useful writing table, colour satellite linked television and air conditioning (if you want it which I don't). The bathroom is adequately sized with a very good (hot water) power shower and modern toilet - don't laugh at this description - some hotels in Sri Lanka have toilets which physically move and shudder when you sit on them). Every room has a reasonable sized balcony with either a front or side view of the beach and ocean.

The dining room is quite attractive and with adequate lighting so you can actually see what you are eating. The food is very good with plenty of variety. Certainly after 11 days here so far there has been a different choice every single day. Mainly the hotel serves a hot buffet with around 4 or 5 different entrees to choose from BUT if you ever do not find anything in the buffet to suit your tastes (unlikely though that will be), speak to one of the waiters and he will have the chefs cook your choice especially for you. I am one of those strange people who holidays in Asia yet dislikes spicy food and I have yet to experience a meal when I could not find a choice to suit my palette.

There is one large swimming pool together with two children's pools (one just 35cm deep and the other just 62cm deep) with an attendant on hand all day until 7-00 each evening plus plenty of loungers, umbrellas etc.

There is also a licensed bar overlooking the pool which is open until 11-30 p.m. daily.

Outside the hotel there are a number of shops and small restaurants within easy walking distance whilst many of Negombo's busier bars and larger restaurants are about 1/2 to 1 km away (150 rupees or 75p by tuk tuk). The hotel also has a printed sign board just outside the entrance listing guide prices for tuk tuks for most of the most popular destinations so you know how much to negotiate a price with the tuk tuk driver. (An excellent idea).

All in all I would recommend this hotel for singles, couples or families.

I have stayed in many hotels around the world (from hostel to 5 star) and whilst I would rate the Paradise Beach as a good 3 star hotel, it offers VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY and (unless you are one of those people expecting a 5 star hotel for 3 star prices) you will certainly enjoy staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors - 3rd or 2nd then you can get a better view of the ocean

Hotel with a good position garden and swimming pool but the room is very basic and don't offer any type of amenities, keep the shampoo from your house... Nice beach with many type of people, and very close to the best restaurant and pub.
