On arrival at Goldi Sands after a 14hr flight, there was a five hour delay booking in to the room. Room was very basic, there was traffic and machinary noise heard in the room. The hotel food was really good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds. Samantha (a man) will do anything he can to be helpful. The beach was clean and again lots of sunbeds. However we was bothered by beach sellers. We ate out frequently at, Tuskres, Bonjou, lordes, all provided excellent food at a reasonable price however the service as in all resturants were in 'Sri Lankan' time (slow) :). Petit, resturant, did not very many tables as it was a small family owned resturant, proved to be the best value out of all the resturants, Joseph Owner, Reni Cook and Dasuni the only waitress. We found the tuktuk drivers very helpful especially Edward. You can not go to Sir Lanka without buying precious stone. We can recommend Quality Jewels, based on Poruthota Road, Ethukala, Negombo, Sri Lanka. Honest and Trustworthy the owner is Mohamed Hassen. We would recommend the holiday.

Room Tip: You need to have a superior room.

I have stayed for one night in this hotel, to be honestly, we enjoyed the time we spent in that hotel. Also the food was nice it worth the price we paid. Also, rooms were decent and had good room service too. The view from the room was fantastic and the garden os neat and clean.

Overall, for a hotel at that star class, have much better settings compared to any other hotel around.

One has to put is hotel into its local context. It is certainly one of the better places to stay when compared to the back pack travelling on a shoestring type places to be found in Negombo. For £50 a night you get an ocean view room with good air conditioning and a ceiling fan if required. It is all pretty clean and the hotel food is not bad.
But it is the location that makes this hotel - fabulous. And the staff are friendly and helpful. Sri Lanka is a lovely place still finding its feet. In a decade it will be a mainstream destination so go now.

Had a suite for one night . The hotel is in a good location on the near sea shore. Helping staff and rich breakfast. Also near to the local shopping and dining center . Standard rooms are fair enough.

Room Tip: Try to have rooms away from the noisy pool area...

This hotel certainly reserves a 5 star rating.
All the staff are very polite and helpful and this made our holiday excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. They always have a genuine smile on their faces and they are all a credit to the Hotel.
The standards at the Hotel are very high in every department and in our opinion this is due to the hands on approach of the General Manager Mr Lal Dissanayake.
We highly recommend this Hotel to anyone who wishes to visit Sri Lanka's West Coast, for a holiday to remember.
Thank you for a great holiday - We will be back - Nita and Keith

visited the hotel one weekend for lunch. The lunch buffet was way too basic for a 3 star hotel. offered very few options in almost all areas; only two options rice/noodles, no salads just sliced and diced vegetables, few dishes and only fruits for desert. It was not only a poor menu but also tasteless. not worth the money! would hv been a lot better experience had we tried fish and chips from a pub outside!. However, the very friendly staff and the grilled chicken and fish saved the day..

We want to start by saying that this is a great hotel but they just get some things wrong.
The main thing is the use of over booking to maintain their accommodation figures. We were a victim of this like many people before us (Hence the title!! as this is one of the rooms you might get if they have double booked) and I am sure others who will follow. It is wrong! No amount of apologies will make up for spoiling someone's holiday by not having the room ready for them which was booked months in advance. We were victims of this and were given a bottle of wine and a fish meal compensation. The fish meal was not the one promised just a fish platter without all the other parts of the advertised dinner - as we were told (by the waitress) because we were getting it free! We were not! it was compensation for the fact we could not unpack our bags, we could not start our holiday, we could not relax until we moved to the room we had paid for.
This is clearly spoiling the reputation of what is a good hotel but could be a great one because otherwise the place seemed well managed.
We travel widely if anyone who reads our reviews will know and always try to be constructive and help hotels improve their service.
The rooms are very good , clean, well appointed, kettle tea and coffee facilities, bottled water, fridge, safe, good sized shower room, toiletries, TV, radio system, air con and fan, and most with a balcony or terrace. Apart from those from 1 to perhaps 4 on both floors, which have no decent view at all, others all have either a sea view or pool /garden view. There are also four individual bungalows alongside the pool. We were very near the bar which did not disturb us at all and we are early bedders.
Fabulous location with beautiful sea views as it sits right on the beach. Within a short walk there are good shops and bars. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The managers are always around and on the ball, in the main. We were on All Iinclusive and the food was excellent. Very good range and choices and always something to suit all tastes - if not they would cook it for you! The range and quality of the desserts in particular were good. And always something being freshly cooked on show. They also had a very decent a la carte menu. On several occasions there were other parties going on in the hotel but the quality of service to the guests did not suffer at all. Drinks were fine, local brands but no wine on All Inclusive. and the wine which was available was not great and at prices you would find in the UK for a bottle although a glass of house wine was about the equivalent of £2. There was entertainment most evenings which was nice and refreshingly non intrusive and suited the age group of the clientele which was mainly couples when we were there.
Generally the staff were polite and helpful and responsive to guests needs.
There is a good sized swimming pool with children's pool, well maintained sunbeds, beach area, gardens and grounds. There was a good bit of territorial protection of spaces in the restaurant.
We could see why people would want to reserve a particular table at dinner but less so at breakfast and lunch.
A couple of points for managers to ponder
1)the safes in the rooms are not fixed to anything.......?
2) wine promotions should not be the same price as it is normally but perhaps a bit cheaper to encourage people to buy it. Otherwise it is not a promotion
Overall though a great stay and we would go again - and recommend the hotel to others

Room Tip: As described earlier, most rooms have sea views or pool views - it is not a noisy hotel and all are...

Thank you for your comment on Trip Advisor. We do understand that apologize could not mend the disappointment for not accommodating you on arrival in the room choice of yours, which you had paid for. we would certainly take extra precautions for this type of incidents not to be repeated in the future.
We are very sorry of the misunderstanding with regard o the seafood dinner which was offered to you as compensation. It was a mis-presentation of the waitress with regard to the sea food dinner.
Your comment was very constructive and we thank you once again for letting us know your thoughts of Goldi Sands Hotel and this is the only way we could improve our standard of services.
We look forward to seeing you again.
