This hotel is definitely not up to the standards of Le Meridian hotels. The hotel itself looks OK. Location is far outside the city, so you have to use a car/taxi to get around.
I'll start with the good - probably best to! I was given a suite due to my Starwood membership level and it was fairly good, with a lounge, a dining area and a good size bedroom. And it was clean. Right, that's the good bit over with.
The staff at reception were slow and unhelpful. They took my passport (as is customary in this part of the world) but seemed very reluctant to hand it back! Check out was also a slow and painful process - allow plenty of time.
Assuming you would stay here on business (can't think of why else you would go to Lattakia), it wasn't clear whether they didn't have internet access, or it just wasn't working. So don't bank on being able to see your emails here.
The hotel doesn't have a gym. I thought that was one of the conditions of a hotel getting a 5* rating, but obviously not in Syria!
The bar was deserted and very pitiful. Just don't bother even looking at it. The restaurant is also very bad. One of the worst hotel breakfasts I have encountered, and I've eaten in Iran and Iraq! The pastries were very dry and just odd. The sausages were black, not from being burnt, just black! Meat isn't meant to be black. I was staying with a Jordanian, and we were both disappointed at the quality of the breakfast, so it doesn't suit western or arabic tastes!
Best thing about my stay at this hotel is that I was only there one night - that was quite enough. Not sure though if there is anywhere better to stay in Lattakia!
