“Good hotel if touring in the area.”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

This hotel was booked as part of a 3-day tour of Western Taiwan. The room was clean and had sufficient amenities. The hotel was close to a number of street and fast food options. The breakfast was adequate.

It is supposed to be a 4-star hotel and I am sure it was, perhaps 20 years ago (this bring into question the ‘star’ system). We know it was an older hotel when we were given regular keys to our room when checking in. The staff, as with all Taiwanese, are very efficient and effective, but there is not much one can do with an old structure. The décor and furniture in the room reminded us of the 60s. There were holes in the wall and the carpets were worn out. The ventilation system consisted of fan only with no temperature adjustment, so we ended up having to shut the system off when it got cold. There was also no in-room safe. Breakfast was basic and nothing too fancy. The hotel is located within walking distance to a very busy night market. On the way there you would pass by a recreational park area where some local group provided singing shows and a local dance club had couples dancing in the park. I can’t say if this is the best hotel in Chiayi, just don’t have any high expectation and you would be ok.

This hotel has seen better days. Check in was efficient, the lifts pretty slow, and my room smelt like many people had enjoyed a good smoke in it! A small TV, and without doubt the very hardest bed I've ever slept on! However it was fairly inexpensive. I had breakfast in the rooftop restaurant and this was OK rather than good, with a limited choice for a westerner.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

Do not be aprehensive when approaching this hotel. It seems to be in an older part of the city, but there is much to see in the surrounding streets. However, its very easy to get lost. We strolled down to the night markets late in the evening and had to take one of about 6 roads radiating from a roundabout. When returning its important to make a note of the Wenhua Street. Taking the wrong street will result in ending up very far from the hotel and difficult to find the way back! We were saved by our room key which we used to ask for directions several times late at night.
Night markets really worth a visit and great for picking up bargains

Room Tip: A room on the higher floors facing the main road has views of the city.

Efficient and quick check-in to an hotel conveniently located in the town centre. The room was adequate, no room safe, and the bathroom small but fully working. The room had a locked French window leading to a balcony which overlooked a brick wall. The bed was rock hard and I was pleased to be staying for just one night.
Breakfast was buffet style, where most of the tables were banquet sized requiring people to share. Whilst this may be normal, I was not used to it and did not enjoy the experience. I also chose the wrong time to eat, and the food had not been restocked after a coach party had dined.
This is not a 4* hotel, and as regards my Taiwan trip, was the least enjoyable.

Room Tip: can't help with this one.

It was my first time to go to Chiayi with my husband.

Since we did not know much about the area and I was advised by people Chiayi Maison De Chine Hotel is a nice 4* hotel.

The hotel is very close to the Chiayi train station, but they also offered a free shuttle bus transfer for us (which you have to book in advance). Staff were very friendly and it was a walking distance to the main night market of Chiayi.

The room was very small with a small balcony. It was not as nice as I expected as the room was very old and worn out.

The hotel provided free laundry serivces which was convenient but we did not have enough time as we only stayed here for one night before we head to Alishan.

Breakfast was normal, not too delicious , but acceptable.

They also provided complimentary newspaper in English for us in the morning.

Overall this was a fair hotel for a stop over , but to be honest, I do not think the is a 4* hotel. I would rate it as 2* to 3* only.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in late July. It is a walkable distance from Chiayi railway station but we had a transfer arranged to pick us up and take us to the hotel.

The check-in process was fairly quick and they also asked us what newspaper we wanted, which they provided us with their compliments in the morning.

Our room was functional and not that spacious, with a double bed that was quite firm. There was just enough space for the clothes. The power sockets did not work properly, which the staff did look at when we noted the problem. There was also a very small balcony for you to take a look out.

The bathroom was compact with all the facilities and sufficient toiletries and linen. The shower was not good, both in terms of temperature and power control.

There is a gym, which has a treadmill and other not well maintained equipment and shared the space with a games room. The machines (nor the air conditioning in the room) were not even switched on when I tried in the morning.

Breakfast was a buffet, which had a varied selection that catered mostly for local and regional Chinese residents. There were a few Western items as well. It was adequate without being special in any way.

Overall this was a convenient stopover hotel for us. It is a little dated but fit for a night's stay. Staff were friendly and it is walking distance to the main night market and shops of Chiayi.
