The owner, Andy, fetch us from the train station on the day of arrival. The first thing he does was to bring us to eat 葱油饼,which was one of the famous stall in Hualien. He drive us back to minsu and after we freshen up, he drive us to the night market in city. He pick us up after 3 hours of shop/food.
Breakfast was included and it was great. Home cooked breakfast by the wife. Bread with jam, bun, fruits and soya bean milk. Can't even finish the food.
We didn't had time I walk to the beach in front of the minsu. We only walk there before leaving. It was a 15metres walk to the beach. Took a few photos before we left for train station.
It was a great stay at the minsu. Both husband and wife were friendly and showed us around the minsu. They rear chickens, ducks, goose, goats and 2 dogs (胖胖和妞妞). At night, they brought us to see fireflies at the backyard. Will definitely go back again!

I booked with this minsu due to the excellent review in TA. Andy and his wife is really lived up to their great reputation. They make us feel at home and make sure everything is taken care of.
Real Taiwan hospitality at its best...

The rooms are exactly as it is in their website. When we first arrive, first impression was bad, as the minsu and rooms looks old and worn down. But after settling in, we noticed that the rooms is actually clean and comfortable. We felt like we are staying at a family house instead of a hotel/minsu.

Overall, we would love to recommend this minsu to others for the great hospitality. And the breakfast prepared by Andy's wife is GOOD... love their souviniers too...

When I first accessed its website, I already love this place! I didn't look for any other minsu in Hualien and my eyes have practically fixed to this minsu. And yes, there are no regrets. I had the best stay in this place!

The hospitality begins even before we reached Taiwan.

Mr. Andy Chen, the owner of the minsu, is very friendly and helpful, and assisted us in many things before we even head to Taiwan. We communicated with Mr. Chen via email and we booked a night in his minsu as well as arranged tours with him (he gets us a driver; Mr. Li to drive us around for the tours we have booked and Mr. Li is also a great and informative driver).

Upon suggested by Mr. Chen, we tried to book the train tickets 2 weeks prior to our arrival however the tickets were all sold out. So we gave up after we are still unable to book for 2 weeks and we told Mr. Chen that we will try to buy it on the spot when we arrived had Taiwan. To our surprise, Mr. Chen immediately (and successfully) booked the train tickets and he passed us the booking number so we can collect the tickets when we have reached Taiwan. It really puzzled us because we tried to book everyday but we couldn't get it. (we were told that it is actually easier and more seat allocation for local citizens to book and buy train tickets online rather than foreigners though I am not sure if this is true)

Mr. Chen came to the train station and meet us personally, introduced us to our driver for the day and collected our luggage to the minsu while we can begin our tour.

Mr. Chen (and wife, Mrs. Chen) reserves us the best room in his minsu; the room has a balcony that oversees the sea and we can even see the sunrise from the room. The room is clean, very spacious and the bed is comfortable! (the bed is so comfortable I practically refused to get up in the morning)

Mr. Chen even gave us a sky lantern and he helped us setting it off. It is our first time experiencing it and we are glad we are able to do it in Hualien. Mr. Chen chatted with us for the next few hours. It is very nice of him.

Mrs. Chen's homemade breakfast is really delicious. She even gave me a souvenir!

We also had a walk around the minsu before we left for another tour for the day. I should say that the minsu is a huge place and we enjoyed seeing the small farm they had at the back (they have dogs, chickens, ducks, sheeps, turkeys, rabbit...).

We have only stayed for a night in the minsu and it is already that memorable. I would love to return again in the future. Truly a hospitality at its best!

Very hospitable family, they make us feel that we are at home. At our last trip in Aug 2011, Mr Chen opened up his hard liquor to my father, who's a fan as well, and they sit there at the dining area till late at night talking about each other's work, family, etc. In addition, Mrs Chen's pineapple cakes are the best! Personally, I find them better than than the one at Miaokow NM - Keelung. :)

I will my best to incorporate Hualien as something like a base when exploring other parts of TW, so that we can stay there again!

As a family of 5 we wanted one of the leg of our trip to be a "stay together" one and the biggest room allowed us to do so. Mr Chen and his wife are the epitome of the friendly Taiwanese spirit - it makes me feel as though I am visiting a distant relative's home!

We are a family passionate about our food and Mr Chen introduced us to many yummy places - including an interesting goose place, a specialty fish shop which looks a little like fast food restaurant, and the to die for super cheap sashimi and fresh fruits.

As city kids from Singapore, we hardly get the chance to play with fireworks, so we did our little own "National Day" as we bought the biggest fireworks there was... on the night of a clear starry sky, it was a wonderful experience.

Also gave us good recommendation of a driver, whose company we enjoyed thoroughly. When we returned from our long day, they will be there offering night snacks and a warm chat before bedtime. Mrs Chen is very talented - notice the framed artwork on walls all around - and do ask her about them! :)

Room : Very spacious even for 5 - can fit 4 adults and up to 3 young kids perhaps. Toilet is a little old, but very clean and in good condition.

Surrounding : 10 minutes drive from town - price includes Mr Chen driving us to and from town every evening. Near the beach and a very scenic coast walk / jog / cycle path.

All in all a very good stay.

Stayed at this minsu last week and must say that it felt really homely; more like staying at a relative's home! The family room that we booked was clean, spacious and comfortable. The owner, Mr Andy Chen was a hospitable and friendly host. He brought us to buy a sky lantern & some fireworks after our dinner and we had a fun time setting them off. Mr Chen then brewed tea for us & even let us try his wife's homemade pineapple tart! Must also mention that Mrs Chen's breakfast of homemade fruit jam sandwich and mashed potato was really yummy! She even made each of us a packed sandwich of egg (from her backyard) & pork floss to eat on the train! Although we stayed only for a night, it was pretty unforgettable!

洄瀾灣民宿
http://hualienbay.hlbnb.com.tw/
No.13, Jieyue St., Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan 970

Location
10 mins drive from Hualien Railway Station but freak not as the minsu owner, Mr Andy Lee, will fetch and send you to the train station. At night, he drove us to the city for our meals and when we're done, gave him a call and he came to pick us back to his minsu.

Rooms
We had 3A+3C and Andy kindly offered us his Sunrise Family Room with a loft (NT2800 with breakfast). There are 2 double beds below and 2 single mattress up the loft. One double bed mattress is soft whereas the other is hard. The minsu is around 4 yrs old (?) so do expect some wear and tear but overall the room is clean.

Bathroom
Equip with towels and toiletries. Generally well kept and clean.

Breakfast
Bread with fruit jam, sandwich with egg, cucumber and meatfloss, toast, coffee/homemade soy milk, some fresh fruits
All above served in one breakfast serving. We stayed for 3 nights but the breakfast remains the same. On our 3rd morning, Andy arranged for some porridge for my kids but they are fine eating the same bread consecutively.

Laundry
We made used of his minsu's washing machine. Unfortunately there weren't enough space for us to air our laundry in the common area. Since we were staying in a room with stairs, we hung them on the stair railings overnight and they were 80% dry the next morning.

Surroundings
Just 5 mins walk to the beach! However, you need to walk through a "forest" to get to the beach. We spent slightly more than an hour at the beach, relaxing. The kids were busy looking out for the finest pebble they could find to bring home. Definitely kept the kids well occupied.

Animals
If you have young children, you can bring them for a walk to his backyard where he rears some live stock. We saw some chickens, goats, a rabbit and a turkey. My children had the chance to witness Mrs Lee slaughter a chicken. That was an eye opener for city kids like mine.

Also, he has 2 dogs, Niuniu and Pangpang. Take note that the former is quite temperamental and tends to bite people she is not familiar with. My son's hand was "bitten" by her but thankfully it was just a light scratch. She attempted to bite DH too but the strange thing was, she was on very good terms with DH the day before but tried to bite him the next day. As we have a dog ourselves, DH was able to control her and she doesn't make any other attempt to "attack" DH. So my advice is do stay away from her to avoid getting bitten. There is a pond with fish foot spa but we didn't try.

WIFI
Free WIFI in lounge areas.

One of the nights we had very early dinner at 5pm so the kids were hungry by 9pm. We got some bread and homemade soy milk from their helper. The next day over breakfast, Mr Lee explained that they have cup noodles too, in case we need some food at night.

Owners are very hospitable and made us feel very much at home. We truly enjoyed our stay @ Hualien Bay Minsu!
