Upon arrival in Hualien at 1210pm, Andy met us at the train station and arranged a driver to bring us on a half day Tarako Gorge tour. We had opted for a half day tour as we were only there for 2 nights and had planned to take the lung children (4 and 6) to Farglory Ocean Park on the second day. Andy took our luggages to the Minsu while we went on our half day tour.

When we finished our tour and returned to our Minsu, we were given some time to freshen up before Andy drove us out for our dinner and shopping.

Andy is a very sincere, friendly and hospitable host. He was very helpful and kept asking us if we needed any more food (breakfast time) or wanted more bananas (from their own banana trees) etc. he also showed us around his garden - which has rosemary herb, peppermint plant, lemon grass and even lavender!! My children loved the farm and his 2 dogs - 胖胖and妞妞。They had such great fun petting the pet Pig and goats as well as watching the turkeys, ducks and chickens. I chose this minsu based on the reviews of an excellent host as well as the farm animals as I know my children will enjoy them. By the way, a typhoon was hovering around taiwan during our visiting, thus making it rather windy and wet. Despite that we still managed to catch a glimpse of one or two fireflies in the garden.

Breakfast was yummy especially with soymilk, brewed coffee as well as home boiled lemon grass drink. Mineral water bottles were provided in our room upon arrival and if one needs more water, a water dispenser is also available on level 1 and 2 of the Minsu. Mrs Andy is very talented and we learnt that all the paintings in the Minsu were painted by her.

Not only did Andy arranged our half day tour, he also got us the tickets to ocean park and drove us there himself as it was difficult to get a driver during the time of our visit (it has coincided with China golden week so most drivers have been booked).

The Minsu is simple with basic amenities but the service provided by both Andy and his wife more than make up for it. I will definitely recommend my friends to stay here if they like a hospitable host who really care their guests.

Once we touch down in Hua Lien, were welcomed by mr & mrs Andy. They fetch us from the train station to the minsu. The minsu is away from town therefore fresh air is surrounded by the environment. We choose cai xia room. Indeed it is very cosy and comfort. The owner owns a farm behind the minsu so we get to interact with their sheep, pig, goose, etc.. It was very fantastic. Everything is so wonderful staying in the minsu except that the breakfast they provided very limited and simple. Things to mention are if the weather permits, you will get to watch fireflies around the farm and be able to play sky lantern there at night.

The owners of this minsu were so friendly, sharing all information about their minsu, the farm, the animals and showed us around. The ocean was just across the road, a short walk of 5 minutes. The short cut was through a thick mangrove growth. It really was very unique and fun. Andy showed us the way with his 2 dogs, who were more excited than us! The view from the top of the breakwater was fantastic - across the horizon!

Out of all the places we stayed, this was one of the most heart-warming host we had come across. We were driven to the night market, recommended Mr. Goose and taken to dessert etc. We had fun with fireworks, lots of them and lighting our sky lantern. That includes fireflies sighting as well. They must had been very tired but stayed up late with us.

We woke up at 5am to take photos of spectacular sun-rise, enjoyed our home made breakfast, fruits and toast with fresh brewed coffee, all served by the host himself. Talked about hospitality! wow....

Although the minsu was not top notch A1 decor in the best part of town, the host more than made up by running it well from his heart. We felt very welcomed and touched. It was like staying with great friends!

The location is far away from city. I couldn't see the Pacific Ocean from the minsu. We had to cycle out and found out good scenery nearby. Yes, they provided us bicycles for free. The owners are very frenly. They let us choose and change the room. The breakfast was very good. They allowed us to eat to our hearts' content. The only problem is the wifi signal was not strong so sometimes it got disconnected.

Overall, it is a cozy place and you will feel like staying in your own house.

Found this minsu online based on good reviews. Decided to find out more and so, searched the website to find out more. Fell in love with what I saw and decided to give it a try in March this year. Really no regrets. The owners, Andy and his wife, are simply fantastic. Andy provided useful information and tips like booking of train rides in advance to enjoy discounts. As a first timer in planning a trip, Andy has been most helpful to help out whenever I needed it. Due to my poor planning (booked the earliest train ride when leaving Hualien), Andy took the trouble to wake up earlier to prepare breakfast for us to eat in the train and drove us to the station. He is really awesome. His hospitality made us feel so much at home. If you have not decided on one, you must give this a try! :)

This minsu is popular with Singaporeans. The owners are very enthusiastic and helpful hosts. They offer advice on sights to see and things to do. It is not so well-located but the owners can pick and drop off from bus/train station or night markets. If you plan to tour Hualien and surroundings, I suggest that you ask the owners for assistance as they can recommend drivers and trips for you. We found our own driver through TripAdvisor recommendations who organised our sightseeing activities. We got the impression that the owners were not too happy about this as they kept saying that they could have gotten better rates and drivers for us. Apart from this, it was an enjoyable experience staying at Hualien Bay.
